Quick Transmigration: I'm the Villain's Assistant to the Protagonist
Chapter 30 Real World 2
As soon as Shen Ying entered the company, a mountain of work awaited her, and without a doubt, it was another day of being busy like a spinning top.
During her lunch break, Shen Ying was just about to doze off at her desk when her phone rang. She picked it up and saw it was an unknown number.
"Hello, Shen Ying, long time no see! This is Lu Yuting!" A clear female voice came from the other end of the phone.
"Yuting, it's you! Long time no see. What can I do for you?" Shen Ying was a little surprised to receive her call, after all, they hadn't been in touch for many years. Their relationship had become distant since their second year of high school.
"I'm getting married this Saturday, and I'd like to invite you to my wedding. Can you come?" Lu Yuting's voice seemed to carry a hint of trepidation.
Shen Ying was a little surprised to hear this: they had been quite close in their first year of high school, but then her friend suddenly distanced herself from her, and after they changed seats in their second year, they barely spoke to each other anymore. However, she didn't refuse, replying, "Of course, no problem! That's great! Congratulations!"
After hanging up the phone, Shen Ying couldn't help but recall her high school days. It seemed that starting from middle school, fewer and fewer friends were willing to hang out with her. In the end, only Xu Xiaozhu remained a good friend. Xu Xiaozhu had angrily told her back then that those who suddenly distanced themselves from her were actually badmouthing her behind her back.
Although she was a little sad, she stopped caring too much after thinking it through, simply attributing it to her own poor interpersonal skills that had offended them. Moreover, her mother had said to her, "Relationships between people are all about fate." This statement had a significant impact on her.
Friday arrived quickly, and Shen Ying hurried home after get off work. Her home was in a small town, while her workplace was in the city. Fortunately, they weren't far apart; it was only about an hour's drive by taxi on the highway.
As soon as she got home, Shen Ying smelled the aroma of food.
"Daughter, you're back! Come wash your hands and eat!" As soon as she heard the noise at the door, Mrs. Shen knew that her daughter had returned, so she called out from the kitchen.
"Okay, I know. What are we making today? It smells so good!" Shen Ying sniffed and said exaggeratedly.
"I have your favorite braised pork with potatoes, sweet and sour pork ribs, and fried chicken wings!" Mrs. Shen's happy voice rang out.
"Haha, then we can have a feast today!"
At the dinner table, Shen Ying and her parents ate and chatted.
"Daughter, how's work lately?" Mr. Shen asked with concern.
"It's alright, just a bit busy." Shen Ying picked up a piece of sweet and sour pork ribs and put it in her mouth.
"Don't overwork yourself, your health is the most important thing." Mrs. Shen put a piece of meat into Shen Ying's bowl.
Shen Ying smiled and said, "I know, don't worry."
During dinner that evening, they chatted about their recent lives and work, and what had happened to them. Shen Ying also told them about her recent experiences, but she didn't mention anything about mysterious things like systems, time travel, or games. It wasn't that she was worried her parents would think she was mentally ill, but rather that she didn't want them, at their age, to worry about her.
After dinner, Shen Ying wanted to help with the housework, but her parents refused.
"You sit there and rest well, your mother and I will clean up," said Mr. Shen.
The family was in the living room, with Mr. and Mrs. Shen watching a popular melodramatic fantasy romance movie with great interest, while Shen Ying was scrolling through her phone.
Suddenly, my phone received another message from another high school classmate, Wang Xuanxuan. The two of them hadn't spoken much in high school, and only started keeping in touch after graduation. Like me, she was one of those people who were practically invisible in class.
"Shen Ying, are you going to Lu Yuting's wedding? Let's go together."
Shen Ying thought to herself: Could it be that Lu Yuting wants to hold a class reunion at her wedding? She invited the entire class, and didn't even leave out the two of us who are nobody.
She replied, "Okay, let's set a time to meet up."
Shen Ying and Wang Xuanxuan met near the hotel as agreed. The two walked hand in hand into the wedding banquet venue.
The wedding venue was beautifully decorated, adorned with flowers and ribbons everywhere. Pink and white balloons floated in the air, creating a romantic and warm atmosphere. Guests chatted and laughed, creating a lively and joyful scene. On the stage, a giant screen displayed sweet photos of Lu Yuting and her groom.
Find a seat and sit down.
While looking at the people coming and going around them, Wang Xuanxuan said to Shen Ying, "I still remember back in high school, we looked forward to going to the convenience store to buy snacks every day after class."
Shen Ying nodded with a smile: "I remember, I still remember that the convenience store was always crowded back then. Once, Yuting and I went into the convenience store, and in the chaos, she let go of my hand. After we both squeezed in, Yuting grabbed the hand of the class monitor from the next class and called my name. I almost laughed myself to death at that moment."
"Haha, I remember that. Yuting tried to pull you, but she pulled the wrong person and made a big blunder. The class monitor's fair face turned as red as a monkey's bottom, haha..." Wang Xuanxuan also remembered this incident.
Wang Xuanxuan continued, "Another time, Lu Yuting was caught eating snacks in class by the teacher, and her expression was hilarious."
Shen Ying couldn't help but laugh out loud: "Haha, I almost forgot about that."
The two chatted back and forth, reminiscing about their high school days, their faces beaming with nostalgic smiles.
Just then, they saw Xu Xiaozhu, dressed in her finest attire, and another female high school classmate pass by their seats. Xu Xiaozhu held her head high, staring straight ahead, as if they didn't exist, her gaze not lingering for even a moment.
Seeing this, Wang Xuanxuan lowered her voice and asked, "You and Xu Xiaozhu, did you really have a fight? Before..." She hesitated, as if she wanted to say something but was worried that it was inappropriate, her expression as conflicted as a crumpled piece of paper.
The events that happened during her university years had spread to some extent back in her hometown. After all, the internet spreads information incredibly quickly, and most people there knew a bit about it. This uninformed public opinion inevitably influenced their perception of Shen Ying. After all, the online discourse was overwhelmingly negative towards Shen Ying, and those who knew her back then had no way of knowing the truth, nor were they close to her. Naturally, they wouldn't ask her directly, and even if they did, they might not believe it; they would simply treat these things as casual conversation.
"Ask whatever you want!" Shen Ying said generously, her face showing no emotion.
Wang Xuanxuan paused for a moment, as if organizing her thoughts, before finally speaking slowly: "There's something you don't know. Actually, during a break in high school, I went to the restroom and came back. As I passed the corner behind the classroom, I saw Xu Xiaozhu talking to a female classmate. As soon as she finished speaking, the female classmate started cursing angrily..." She didn't say who she was cursing, but it was obvious that she was talking about Shen Ying.
"At the time, I found it strange, but I didn't think much of it. It wasn't until a year after what happened in college, at the class reunion organized by the class monitor, that I realized Xu Xiaozhu was terrifying and scheming. Luckily, you two have drifted apart. But I still feel like she's targeting you. You'd better be careful and not let her fool you again," Wang Xuanxuan said in one breath.
Shen Ying shook her head, deliberately exaggerating her emotions as she sighed, "It's all in the past, everything is in the past. The most important thing for us now is to seize the moment, be the best version of ourselves, and embrace a bright future!"
"Haha, where did you get this inspirational quote from?" Wang Xuanxuan laughed.
