Exclusive Pampered Wife: My Wife Came to My Door

Chapter 75 What exactly did Yan's mother do?

Yan Zuozuo wasn't sure if it was just her imagination, but ever since her mother woke up, the way she looked at her was strange. It was as if she was afraid of losing her, or as if she had some unspeakable secret. She really wanted to ask what was wrong, but she held back, worried that her mother, who had just undergone surgery, wouldn't be able to handle it.

Yan's mother stared at her with a strange look. Yan Zuozuo sighed silently and comforted her mother, who was weak after the surgery. "Mom, why don't you sublet the flower shop? You scared me to death this time."

Yan Zuozuo still feels scared when she thinks about the phone call she received that day. She doesn't even want to imagine the consequences if anything were to happen to her mother.

"I'm fine. It was just a benign brain tumor. Now that I've had surgery, there shouldn't be any major problems." Yan's mother's job wasn't particularly strenuous, and with the help of a part-time worker, it wasn't a problem. The family wasn't short of money; it's just that Yan's mother had worked hard her whole life and was someone who couldn't stay idle.

"Mom, even if you don't think about me, you should at least think about Uncle Mu. If you marry him, you'll have to cook, do laundry, clean the house, and there might be other miscellaneous things to do. How will you have time to manage the flower shop?"

Yan's mother blushed and glared at Yan Zuozuo, "What nonsense are you talking about? Your Uncle Mu and I are friends. How am I supposed to get along with him if you act like this?"

Yan Zuozuo chuckled and snuggled into her mother's arms. "Mom, Uncle Mu already told me. You're really not being fair. I'm overjoyed that you've found a good partner. Why did you keep it from me?"

Before Yan's mother could say anything, Yan Zuozuo cheerfully said, "Uncle Mu asked me to persuade you. He said you should grow flowers and raise fish. If you really can't stay idle, you can come to his company. He'll feel at ease watching over you. He also said that when he's less busy in a while, he'll take you on a trip. Before, we didn't have the opportunity because of circumstances, but now it's different. Once you're with Uncle Mu, you can go wherever you want, and you won't have to worry about me anymore."

Mother Yan smiled, a slight blush appearing on her face. Since Mu Tianyang had brought it up, she had no reason to hide anything. So she went along with what he said, "I'll consider subletting the flower shop, but your Uncle Mu's daughter doesn't want me to be with your Uncle Mu, so I'm still hesitating."

Yan Zuozuo twitched the corner of her mouth, stared at the wrinkles at the corner of her mother's eyes, and couldn't help but sigh, "Actually, I'm also worried about this. What if Mu Yaoqian bullies you if you marry into the family?"

Mrs. Yan smiled and said, "So, I haven't decided on this matter yet. But Zuo Zuo, this is between you and your Uncle Mu. Don't let this cause any trouble between you and Yao Qian at the company, understand?"

Yan Zuozuo nodded with a smile, but when she thought of Mu Yaoqian's unpleasant face, she really couldn't get along with her.

Yan Zuozuo got up and poured a glass of water for her mother. Her mother took the water, and murmured absentmindedly, "If one day you find that your mother isn't as good as you think, will you be disappointed in her?"

Yan Zuozuo's heart tightened: "Why would Mom say that?"

Yan's mother was taken aback for a moment, then quickly shook her head, "It's nothing, it's nothing, I was just saying."

Seeing her mother's guilty look as she turned her head away, Yan Zuozuo didn't ask any more questions. She waited until her mother finished drinking the water before saying, "Mom, you've raised me all these years by yourself. In my heart, you're the best. No matter what others say, you're always my best mom."

Yan's mother's eyes reddened, and she hugged her tightly, saying, "You are also my best child."

Mu Tianyang came in carrying some things, and Yan Zuozuo quickly stood up, making an excuse that she had something to do at the company and left. Firstly, she wanted to give them some space to cultivate their relationship, and secondly, her own thoughts were also very chaotic.

She didn't understand what Yan's mother meant; she was just walking alone on the street, somewhat lost. What kind of past made Yan's mother so afraid of her knowing? She wanted to ask her, but she was afraid of hurting her feelings, so she could only hold back.

There's nothing left for her at the company; she'd just sit there blankly when she got home. Suddenly, she missed Fu Zixin terribly, wondering how she was doing. She called her, but she didn't answer. She felt increasingly sad; besides Fu Zixin, she didn't have a single friend she could talk to.

She was very confused and didn't want to go home or back to the company. She made the driver drive around in circles before finally giving him her home address.

When Chi Moqing got home, it was almost seven o'clock. Normally, the lights would have been on long ago, but today the room was still dark, as if no one was home. He went in and turned on the light, and sure enough, he didn't see Yan Zuozuo. He couldn't help but frown.

So he took out his phone and called her, and heard her voice muffled. He asked, "Where are you?"

Yan Zuozuo pursed her lips: "In the community garden."

Chi Moqing hung up the call and walked towards the garden. From afar, he saw her alone there, the setting sun casting its glow upon her, making her appear even more lonely and forlorn. He walked up to her and softly called her name, "Zuo Zuo?"

Yan Zuozuo stared blankly ahead, as if she was thinking about something, or perhaps her mind was completely blank, not thinking about anything at all. Hearing Chi Moqing's voice, she was stunned for a long time before she finally forced a smile, "You're back."

Chi Moqing nodded: "Why are you sitting here all alone?"

"I want some fresh air." Just as she sat down, she suddenly seemed to recall some things from her childhood. But she was too young then, and the memories were vague and unreal. She only knew that people often came to visit Yan's mother, and Yan's mother always told her to go out and play. As for what happened, she didn't know.

An unwanted thought suddenly popped into her head, startling her. Good heavens, she was going crazy! How could she have such a thought? She shook her head violently. Impossible! No matter what, her mother would never sell her body.

Chi Moqing reached out and helped her up, brushing the dirt off her clothes. Yan Zuozuo let him lead her home. At the elevator, Chi Moqing asked, "How is Mom's health?"

He had originally planned to leave work early to visit Yan's mother, but he had been too busy and couldn't find the time. He had just finished a meeting and was thinking of taking her to the hospital later. Unexpectedly, when he returned, he found her sitting alone in the park, looking preoccupied.

"It's good. With Uncle Mu taking care of her, Mom is in a good mood too," Yan Zuozuo said softly.

“It’s clear that Uncle Mu cares a lot about Mom. It’s good that they have each other’s company,” Chi Moqing said.

Yan Zuozuo nodded, then shook her head. "Uncle Mu's daughter doesn't agree, and I'm worried that Mom will be mistreated if she marries him. No matter how many promises Uncle Mu makes, Mom won't be happy if she's caught between him and his daughter."

Chi Moqing didn't say much, but simply held her shoulders tightly.

After a long while, Yan Zuozuo asked, "Mo Qing, what would you do if one day you suddenly discovered that your family, whom you thought was wonderful, was not as wonderful as you imagined, and had even done some terrible things?"

Chi Moqing turned to look at her, remaining silent for a long time. Just when Yan Zuozuo thought he wouldn't answer, she heard him say calmly, "Not every mistake is unforgivable. If the intention is good, why bother with these things?"

Yan Zuozuo was taken aback: "But it was a mistake after all."

Chi Moqing smiled, opened the door, and took her hand to walk inside. Yan Zuozuo had the same expression as she had in the garden earlier—bewildered and at a loss.

Chi Moqing poured her a glass of juice, sat down in front of her, looked at her intently, and said softly, "Can you tell me what happened?"

Yan Zuozuo stared at him for a long time, then suddenly felt inexplicably wronged. Her eyes reddened, and tears welled up in her eyes.

Chi Moqing reached out to dry her, then hugged her and comforted her patiently.

After a while, Yan Zuozuo finally stopped crying and told Chi Moqing what she had overheard at the hospital in a flustered state. She looked at him sadly, "Moqing, do you think my mother might have done things she shouldn't have done in order to make my life better?" The thought of Yan Zuozuo doing things she shouldn't have done for her made her heart ache.

Chi Moqing looked at her quietly, reached out and wiped away the tears on her face, then suddenly chuckled, "You, don't scare yourself. Don't you know your mother's temperament? Why do you overthink things?"

Yan Zuozuo bit her lip, tears still streaming down her face, "But those words... I can't help but overthink them..."

"Then let me ask you, if Mother Yan really did the things you imagine, would you despise her and disown her?" Chi Moqing asked.

Yan Zuozuo shook her head and said firmly, "She will always be my mother."

Besides, even if Yan's mother really did that kind of thing, it was all for her sake. She would only feel guilty and sad, how could she possibly blame Yan's mother?

Chi Moqing smiled and said, "Believe me, Mom definitely didn't do that kind of thing. Besides, even if she did, you wouldn't despise her or abandon her, so what's the problem?"

Yan Zuozuo blinked, thinking it made sense, but she was still sad. "I'm just heartbroken for my mother. In those days, she was pregnant out of wedlock. How much pressure must she have been under? He Cangyuan is a bastard for abandoning my mother... If my mother was forced to do those things, I would only hate He Cangyuan and wish he would go to hell!"

Chi Moqing pinched her nose: "Perhaps it's not impossible."

Yan Zuozuo stiffened: "What do you mean?"

Chi Moqing smiled and said, "If I told you that if the Chi family doesn't contribute money to the municipal hospital, He Cangyuan could very well be imprisoned for contract fraud, would you plead for him?"

"No!" Yan Zuozuo shook her head. "He could so heartlessly abandon my daughter and me, why should I care whether he lives or dies!"

“Then he’s not far from going to hell.” Chi Moqing remained calm and collected, then smiled and said, “I bought beef. I’ll make curry beef tonight. Go wash your face.”

Yan Zuozuo nodded and was about to go to the restroom when Chi Moqing suddenly hugged her, lowered his head to kiss her lips, pried open her teeth, and thrust his long tongue in. Yan Zuozuo quickly succumbed to his passionate kiss, their love lingering and tender.

The next second, Chi Moqing picked her up and carried her into the room.
