Exclusive Pampered Wife: My Wife Came to My Door
Chapter 58 Chi Moqing Pretends to be Drunk
“Uncle Cai, it’s one thing for outsiders to misunderstand, but you should know very well that I have never had a relationship with Qingqing, and the child in her belly is not mine. My wife and I have a very good relationship and do not want these rumors to ruin it. I hope you can understand.” Just then, the elevator arrived. He nodded politely and stepped into the elevator.
Cai Yaren stood blankly outside the elevator, a surge of irritation rising in his heart as he recalled Cai Qingqing's haggard and heartbroken appearance. Although he had angrily sent her abroad years ago, she was still his own daughter. How could any father not worry when he saw her like that?
Chi Moqing arrived home quickly, his hair a little messy, his appearance somewhat disheveled, and he was panting heavily. When Yan Zuozuo saw him, she seemed suddenly relieved; all the pent-up grievances from the day welled up inside her. Curled up on the sofa, she stared at him intently, her nose stinging, tears streaming down her face.
Chi Moqing walked over with a pained expression, hugged her tightly, patted her back gently, and whispered comfortingly, "It's alright, it's alright. Didn't you say that hope is bright and things will get better?"
Yan Zuozuo's eyes were red, and she wiped her snot and tears all over Chi Moqing. She clung tightly to his clothes, repeatedly telling him how heartbroken she was, how all men were bad, and how none of them were good.
Chi Moqing held her, listened to her, and tenderly wiped away her tears. After what seemed like an eternity, Yan Zuozuo finally calmed down, biting her lip and looking at Chi Moqing with her watery eyes, "Is it embarrassing?"
Chi Moqing chuckled: "It's not shameful, but there's a small problem here that I should correct."
"What?" Yan Zuozuo sniffed and asked.
"Not all men in the world are bastards. For example, your husband is a good man."
Yan Zuozuo pouted and punched him lightly, "People are already so sad, and you're still making fun of me."
Chi Moqing hugged her: "Okay, go wash your face. You haven't eaten much all day, have you? I'll go cook."
When Chi Moqing came out of the kitchen, he saw Yan Zuozuo curled up asleep on the sofa. He went over, gently stroked her face, kissed her forehead, and went back to the room to get a blanket to cover her.
He covered her with the blanket very gently, but it still woke Yan Zuozuo. She slowly opened her eyes and saw his gentle smile. She quickly sat up and ran her fingers through her messy hair. "I was asleep."
"It's okay, you can sleep a little longer. I'll heat up some food for you when you wake up." He sat down beside her and gently pulled her into his arms.
Leaning against his warm shoulder, Yan Zuozuo felt incredibly lucky again. If it weren't for Chi Moqing, he might have been even more miserable than Fu Zixin. Thinking of her, Yan Zuozuo couldn't help but feel a lump in his throat.
She didn't actually have much of an appetite, but seeing the dinner that Chi Moqing had worked so hard to prepare, she still walked towards the dining table.
Seeing her listless appearance, Chi Moqing sighed softly and said, "Zuozuo, no one can live a life without experiencing pain. Only through pain can one grow and become stronger. You can't always think that pain is negative. On the contrary, it might not be a bad thing for Zixin."
Yan Zuozuo bit her lip and after a long while said, "I know." But knowing was one thing, seeing her friend in pain was another. She had experienced such pain herself, and if she could, she wouldn't want Fu Zixin to go down the same path as her.
Chi Moqing picked up some food for her and coaxed, "Eat a little, or your body won't be able to take it."
Yan Zuozuo nodded, eating blankly bite by bite, but she really had no mood for it, forcing herself to eat without knowing what it tasted like.
Seeing her like this, Chi Moqing didn't force her. He reached out and patted her head, "I'll handle the rest. You go and get some sleep."
Yan Zuozuo quietly walked to the bedroom, lay down on the bed, and stared intently at the ceiling. Besides feeling sorry for Fu Zixin, she also felt that the wounds she had suffered in the past had been torn open again, causing unbearable pain and leaving her bleeding profusely.
During the time Qi Jiahui left her, she didn't know how she got through it all in a daze. She only knew that she later met Chi Moqing, who saved her and gave her a home. She hoped that her friend could be so lucky, instead of being devastated.
After cleaning up the dishes, Chi Moqing went back to the room to keep Yan Zuozuo company. He lay on the bed and hugged her, saying, "Don't think about it. Believe that Fu Zixin is a strong woman, and everything will be alright."
Yan Zuozuo shook her head, her voice muffled, "She's not actually strong. She seems cheerful on the surface, but deep down she's more fragile than anyone else."
Chi Moqing listened quietly as Yan Zuozuo continued to talk about everything concerning Fu Zixin. She nuzzled her head against his chest, sniffed, and said, "I'm so lucky to have met you, and I hope she's lucky enough to meet another man who treats her well."
Chi Moqing smiled and placed a kiss on her forehead. "Alright, go to sleep."
Yan Zuozuo nodded, probably because she was really too tired, and fell asleep quickly.
The next morning, Yan Zuozuo was woken up by a kiss. She groaned and turned over, but didn't open her eyes.
Chi Moqing chuckled: "I'm doing this for your own good. If I didn't wake you up this way, you would be late for work."
Yan Zuozuo froze, then looked up at the clock on the wall. It was 8:10.
"Ahhh, why didn't you wake me up sooner?" She hurriedly got out of bed and saw Chi Moqing, who had already gotten ready, leaning coolly against the bathroom door, saying with a half-smile, "So you thought I wasn't good enough at last? Shall we continue tonight?"
Yan Zuozuo turned around and glared at him, then laughed and scolded, "Get out of here!"
Chi Moqing laughed heartily: "Don't rush, there's still plenty of time, I'll go fry some eggs."
Yan Zuozuo smiled and quickly finished washing up before heading to the restaurant.
At noon, just as Yan Zuozuo was about to call Fu Zixin, she saw her appear at their company. She gave a sad smile and said, "Let's have lunch together."
In the restaurant, Yan Zuozuo could hardly believe what she had just heard. She slammed her hand on the table and roared, "He actually dared to come looking for you? Why didn't you kick him out?!"
Fu Zixin looked at her with a wry smile: "I can't bring myself to do it to him. He's still wearing yesterday's wedding attire, all wrinkled and reeking of alcohol. It's like he didn't go home last night and spent the night in a bar."
"So you took him in because you felt sorry for him?"
Fu Zixin shook her head: "I just told him that it's impossible for us to be together anymore. I asked him to go back so he can take care of his wife. Even if I made a mistake back then, I won't keep making that mistake forever." She lowered her eyes, recalling how she felt when she said those words this morning, and the pain was still unbearable.
"Zixin." Yan Zuozuo felt extremely sad looking at her with eyes full of sorrow.
"I'm fine." Fu Zixin smiled and shook her head. "Actually, you advised me a long time ago, but I was the one who didn't listen and insisted on being a moth drawn to a flame. Now that I'm hurt and in pain, it's my retribution for being the other woman." She looked straight at Yan Zuozuo, reached out and placed her hand on hers, tears welling up in her eyes. "Don't feel sorry for me, because it's not worth it."
Yan Zuozuo shook her head. They had been together for ten years, and this had happened to her. How could she not feel sad for her?
After a moment of silence, Fu Zixin seemed to have made up her mind and said in a calm voice, "The newspaper has decided to send a reporter to Africa to conduct follow-up interviews. I signed up, and I have a very high chance of being selected. I called you out today to tell you about this."
"Africa?!" Yan Zuozuo exclaimed, grabbing Fu Zixin's hand abruptly. "Stop messing around, okay? Africa is very unstable right now. What are you going there for? I won't allow it!"
Fu Zixin pulled her hand back: "Zuo Zuo, let me be willful one more time. After living in this city for twenty-six years, I suddenly feel tired and stifled. I want to go out and see the world."
"We don't need to go to Africa. I'll go with you. We can travel, go to Europe, Australia, and even vacation on a small island..."
"Zuo Zuo!" Fu Zixin raised her voice, tears welling up in her eyes. She took a deep breath and said, "Let me go on my own this time. The world is so big, and I've never been out on my own before. I'm worried I'll regret it when I'm old."
Seeing Fu Zixin's expression, Yan Zuozuo didn't know how to advise her. Perhaps she should go out for a run with her; that would make it easier for her to get over this heartbreak.
That evening, Chi Moqing wearily opened the door to her home. She slumped onto the sofa, feeling a bit dizzy. Recently, the Chi family had been working on a major project, and in order to obtain the necessary paperwork as quickly as possible, she had been attending more and more social engagements, some of which she couldn't refuse even if she wanted to.
Yan Zuozuo came out after hearing the noise. She had just been studying the materials the design director had given her last time. It was a three-out-of-five competition, and she was trying very hard to join the team.
The living room was completely dark, with no lights on. Through the faint moonlight streaming through the window, Yan Zuozuo found the light switch and turned it on with a snap. She saw Chi Moqing lying on the sofa with his eyes closed, reeking of alcohol.
"Chi Moqing?" Yan Zuozuo walked to his side and called him softly. But Chi Moqing didn't respond, his brows furrowed, as if he were asleep. Yan Zuozuo was startled, thinking that his stomach was upset again, and quickly patted his face, "Chi Moqing, what's wrong? Is your stomach upset? You... Ah!" Before she could finish speaking, Chi Moqing pulled her into his arms, buried his head in her chest, and remained silent.
Yan Zuozuo looked at him worriedly and forced him to look up. "Is your stomach upset?"
Chi Moqing squinted at her, pouting unhappily, "I don't like you calling me Chi Moqing."
Yan Zuozuo was taken aback, and asked hesitantly, "Are you really drunk again?"
Chi Moqing shook his head, looking at her accusingly, "We're married, I'm your husband. You keep calling me Chi Moqing, like a stranger, I don't like it at all."
Yan Zuozuo's face darkened; she hadn't expected him to say this. She assumed he was drunk and gently coaxed, "Okay, okay, then I'll call you Mo Qing. Can we go back to your room and sleep now?"
Chi Moqing buried his head in her chest again, still seemingly dissatisfied, and said sullenly, "Isn't it better to call me husband? Your voice is so soft and sweet, I think it sounds nice."
"This is really getting more and more outrageous," Yan Zuozuo smiled helplessly. "But I feel really awkward about it."
“I don’t feel awkward calling you my wife. It’s because you don’t care about me. I’m very sad.” Chi Moqing said, biting her neck. Yan Zuozuo exclaimed, “That’s enough! If I didn’t care about you, why would I worry about your health and even learn to cook from Mom so you could eat well while you’re taking care of your stomach?” He’s so heartless. She’s been taking such good care of him, and he still dares to complain.
"Then call me husband." Chi Moqing was like a child who couldn't get candy and was determined to have it.
Yan Zuozuo was completely dumbfounded. She opened her mouth, and it really felt very awkward.
"Go ahead and yell, yell now, I'm so sleepy, I'll go to sleep after you yell." Now, they've even resorted to the strategy of feigning helplessness.
Seeing his drunken state, Yan Zuozuo worried that he wouldn't be comfortable sleeping there, so she tentatively spoke, "Husband."
"That was too abrupt. You're not my wife," Chi Moqing said sullenly.
Wow? So picky?
"Husband..." Yan Zuozuo softened her tone and called out again.
Unexpectedly, Chi Moqing frowned again, still very dissatisfied, "I want it to be soft and fluffy, like a cotton candy."
Yan Zuo clenched her fist, but then thought it was ridiculous to argue with a drunkard. So, she grinned sweetly and said, "Husband..."
It's sweet and coquettish, like some kind of special service.
Chi Moqing finally smiled, and in one swift motion, he knocked Yan Zuozuo down, bit her lip, and said seductively, "That's it, that's what you call me in bed too, I like it, I like it very much."
Yan Zuozuo rolled her eyes and was about to protest when a tender and passionate kiss landed on her. Chi Moqing seemed to want to meld her into his very bones, and the kiss grew more and more intense and lingering until it finally became uncontrollable.
