Exclusive Pampered Wife: My Wife Came to My Door
Chapter 48 Sophie's Invitation
“I only agreed to be their bridesmaid because I didn’t want it to be like this. I can’t let go unless I see him get married and make vows to another woman. I know it’s cruel, but I can’t think of any other way to force myself to give him up.” Fu Zixin’s eyes reddened and she choked up as she spoke.
Yan Zuozuo didn't know what to say, but she felt sorry for Fu Zixin.
Sniffing, Fu Zixin chuckled softly, "Zuo Zuo, I really love him. My love life has been empty for 26 years, as if I was waiting for him to appear. The moment he appeared, even though I knew it was all wrong, I couldn't control myself. Even if it was a short-lived love, I loved him with almost my whole life. Knowing there was no future, I loved him without hesitation. He's getting married, and this love isn't something I can take back just because I want to. I can only use this cruel method to make myself give up."
Yan Zuozuo looked at her, tears welling up in her eyes. She covered her mouth, unable to utter a single word. For so many years with Fu Zixin, she had always been optimistic and positive, facing even the greatest difficulties with a smile. But now…
Yan Zuozuo bit her lip, unsure of what to say. Rather than hating Fu Zixin for being so unambitious, she felt sorry for her.
How could they have loved each other so intensely during this time?
Fu Zixin smiled, tears still streaming down her face. "Just let me be foolish this once. If it weren't for this, I might never have been able to get over this relationship. This is the most painful thing. Once they get married, I'll finally be able to give up completely."
"Is it worth it?" Yan Zuozuo asked.
Fu Zixin nodded: "It's worth it!"
Yan Zuozuo stopped talking, turned her head away to wipe her tears. Since this was her decision, she would accompany her this time. She took out a tissue and handed it to Fu Zixin, forcing a smile, "Let's eat first, and I'll help you try on your bridesmaid dress after we eat."
She only hoped that Fu Zixin could truly get over this heartbreak, find a good man to marry, and completely forget him.
Fu Zixin smiled and said, "Let's eat. I'm very picky. If you don't eat properly, you won't have the energy to keep up with me later."
Even though she was already so heartbroken, he still tried to make her laugh. As Yan Zuozuo watched, she couldn't help but burst into tears again.
Fu Zixin seemed to be insatiable, devouring all the dishes that were served. She patted her stomach as if she hadn't yet given birth, and immediately called to the waiter, "Bring the menu over, and add a few more dishes."
Seeing her like this, Yan Zuozuo felt only sadness.
After dinner, she accompanied Fu Zixin to try on bridesmaid dresses. In the bridal shop, she saw the policeman's fiancée and was startled, asking, "What's wrong with your eyes?"
Yan Zuozuo shrugged: "I drank too much water last night, and I don't know why, but I looked like this when I woke up this morning."
The fiancée seemed unconvinced, but still pulled Fu Zixin aside and smiled, "My Kaijun has a bad temper and speaks very directly. If he has offended you in any way before, please forgive him."
"No, it was all a misunderstanding before, but it's all cleared up now," Fu Zixin said with a smile. "Alright, didn't we come here today to try on wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses? Let's not talk about such unpleasant topics. What's past is past."
"Yes, yes, your bridesmaid dress is here. Let's go in and try it on."
Sophie, Wang Kaijun's fiancée; Wang Kaijun, the policeman whom Fu Zixin loved most tragically.
Yan Zuozuo wasn't sure if it was just her imagination, but she felt that Su Fei wasn't as innocent as she had initially thought. Perhaps she already knew about Fu Zixin and Wang Kaijun's affair, and was using this to make Fu Zixin give up on her completely.
If that were the case, Yan Zuozuo could understand. She had to protect her own man. However, she admired this woman's shrewdness; knowing everything, she pretended to know nothing, subtly eliminating her rival.
Fu Zixin and Su Fei came out of the fitting room together. Su Fei's makeup was perfect and her clothes were beautiful, but Yan Zuozuo was not in the mood to pay attention to her and only focused her attention on Fu Zixin.
Her bridesmaid dress was beautiful. The makeup artist had just done her makeup, and in the white gown, she looked like a noble princess. It had an off-the-shoulder design, a fitted waist, and a cinched hem. One shoulder was adorned with large, flowing lace flowers, and the same floral pattern slanted downwards at the waist. It wasn't a particularly unique design, but it perfectly accentuated her shapely figure.
"So beautiful." Sophie exclaimed, holding Fu Zixin's hand. Fu Zixin's eyes flickered with bitterness, but she still smiled. "Your wedding dress is even more beautiful. You look like a queen." As she spoke, she personally put the crown and jewelry on Sophie's head. She pushed her in front of the mirror. "So perfect. You must be the most beautiful bride in the world."
Sophie looked at herself in the mirror and smiled happily.
Yan Zuozuo really didn't want to see Fu Zixin being so insincere, but she had no right to take her away. The entire afternoon, Yan Zuozuo watched Fu Zixin make things difficult for her. As for Su Fei, she didn't know what she was thinking when facing her love rival.
The two didn't leave the bridal shop until 5 p.m. Sophie wanted to treat them to dinner, and Fu Zixin was about to agree, but Yan Zuozuo refused, saying, "I have something else to discuss with Zixin, let's do it another day."
Sophie slumped her shoulders in disappointment: "Then that's the only way. I came here with Kaijun, and I don't have any friends here. I hope you won't find me annoying."
"Miss Su, you're too kind. We'll be going now." With that, Yan Zuozuo pulled Fu Zixin away.
In the coffee shop, even if Yan Zuozuo wanted to speak, she was silenced by Fu Zixin's stagnant gaze. The two remained silent. Yan Zuozuo wanted to comfort her, but didn't know what to say, so she could only sigh and let her continue to stare blankly.
"Miss Yan, what a coincidence to run into you here." Suddenly, a clear and melodious voice rang out.
Yan Zuozuo looked up and met Cai Qingqing's smiling face. She was stunned for a moment, her expression changed slightly, and it took her a while to react, "Yes, it's a coincidence."
Cai Qingqing sat down next to her, looked at her, and said apologetically, "Zuo Zuo, I drank too much last time. Please forgive me if I said anything out of line."
Yan Zuozuo smiled faintly: "No."
Cai Qingqing seemed relieved: "That's good. I've felt very guilty these past few days, afraid that I said something that made you misunderstand Mo Qing. If that were the case, I would be very guilty."
Yan Zuozuo nodded, not wanting to continue the topic, and asked, "Miss Cai, are you here for afternoon tea?"
"Well, I had an appointment with a friend, and when I saw you here, I came over to say hello," Cai Qingqing said with a smile. "This meal is on me, as an apology."
Yan Zuozuo quickly shook her head: "No need, no need, Mo Qing will come to pick me up later, he will pay." After saying that, she saw a fleeting look of loneliness on Cai Qingqing's face. At this moment, she could understand Su Fei's attitude towards Zixin. Neither of them were ruthless or vengeful people, but they were so firm in their stance on marriage.
Cai Qingqing gave a dry laugh: "Alright then, I'll be going now." She stood up, nodded slightly to Fu Zixin, and gracefully turned and left.
Fu Zixin stared at Cai Qingqing's departing figure, then turned to look at Yan Zuozuo, "Who is this? She seems to have ill intentions."
"Chi Moqing's ex-girlfriend."
Fu Zixin raised an eyebrow: "Ex-girlfriend? Is Chi Moqing blind or brain-dead? He actually dated a woman like that. She's obviously a vixen. Why did they break up? Could it be that she cheated on him?"
"..." Yan Zuozuo's lips twitched. Was it really that amazing?
"Ha, I knew it, this woman is obviously no good." Fu Zixin started criticizing her, and before she knew it, she had eaten several pieces of cake and drunk a glass of milk.
Seeing that she had regained her spirits, Yan Zuozuo said, "It's getting late, let me take you home. I'll stay at your place tonight."
Fu Zixin was taken aback and quickly refused, "No, I'm already miserable enough, I don't want anyone coming to my door asking for my wife. You should go home and take care of your Mr. Chi. I'm fine, really."
Yan Zuozuo looked at her suspiciously, but Fu Zixin repeatedly assured her, so she could only let her have her way. Not long after, Chi Moqing called, asking where she was and offering to come pick her up.
Yan Zuozuo gave the address, originally intending to have Chi Moqing take Fu Zixin there. But Fu Zixin refused, "I really can't see your Mr. Chi like this. Maybe next time, after I've done my makeup and I'll treat you guys to a meal. I'm leaving now."
Yan Zuozuo watched her departing figure, her feelings complicated. She didn't know how to comfort Fu Zixin, and only hoped that after witnessing Wang Kaijun and Su Fei's wedding, she would be able to completely give up.
In the car, Yan Zuozuo told Chi Moqing about Fu Zixin's decision and wanted to hear his opinion.
Chi Moqing was silent for a moment, glancing at her while the light was red, before slowly speaking, "There's no right or wrong in matters of the heart, nor is there any question of whether it's worth it or not. Even if you get hurt, it's not necessarily a bad thing. You grow through pain, and although the price is high, it's still a kind of gain. A short pain is worse than a long one. Fu Zixin's decision isn't a bad ending."
Yan Zuozuo pursed her lips and said sadly after a long while, "I would rather Fu Zixin never grow up and stay so innocent and happy forever."
“Silly girl, everything has two sides. Luckily, she met an honest man this time. If it had been a dishonest man who played with her feelings while marrying another woman, Fu Zixin would have become a true third party, wouldn’t she have been hurt even more?” Chi Moqing patted her head and comforted her gently.
Yan Zuozuo lowered her eyes, and after a long while, she said in a faint voice, "Maybe."
Just as Chi Moqing said, if the other party is a despicable man who hides everything from Fu Zixin and continues to entangle her after marriage, she will probably suffer even more harm in the end.
Chi Moqing kissed her forehead, started the car, and drove home. "Don't overthink it. Things might not be as bad as you think. Since Fu Zixin wants to make a clean break, you should support her and encourage her to find a man who can make her happy again."
Yan Zuozuo nodded, turning her head to look at Chi Moqing. It was as if with him by her side, even the biggest problems could be easily solved. She was very glad that she had been so impulsive back then; otherwise, she might have missed out on such a good man.
