Li Nan wanted to appear less disheveled, but couldn't suppress her breakdown:

"Why didn't she tell me? Why? If she had told me, would I not have understood her? Now I feel like I caused all of this, but I didn't even have the right to choose how I was born!"

Li Rong said calmly, "After that incident, Qian Fang was afraid of being embarrassed, so she didn't tell anyone. She didn't understand anything, and only told me after she got pregnant."

"No secret stays hidden forever, and eventually her mother found out. Her mother was a widow, and that very night she tried to hang herself. In those days, people were afraid of losing face, so everyone advised Qian Fang to marry Li Jianguo."

She got married.

"Your father is a good-for-nothing, a complete scoundrel. Your grandmother is a formidable woman; she never allowed you to be close to her from a young age. Qian Fang lived a very painful life; you were her first child, and she loved you while simultaneously hating you. When your grandmother taught you to speak, your first words were 'good grandmother,' and your second was 'bad mother.'"

"As you grew up, she became increasingly thin and frail. I had grown up with her since childhood, and it was alright when I was with her. But after I got married, I rarely saw her. When I went back to my parents' home, she was no longer recognizable as a human being."

"I advised her to leave, but she said she didn't want to go anywhere and didn't want to live anymore. Later, I found an opportunity to take her to a big city to see some doctors, and the doctors said that only she could resolve her inner conflict."

"In 04, she finally made up her mind to sue your father."

"You asked me why she didn't tell you the truth. It's not like she didn't tell you. She said you weren't allowed to sue the authorities. If you did, your father would have a criminal record, and you wouldn't be able to become an official in the future."

"Whether it was your grandmother who taught you or not, the words were yours. From that moment on, she knew you weren't her child; you were Li Jianguo's child, the child of a devil."

"She still sued, and I was a witness. Your father went to jail, your grandmother died of anger, and she wanted to get rid of you, but she could never get rid of you. Everyone in the original village was cursing her for being heartless, so I found her a home."

“That man was nice, willing to take you in, and you had a younger sister, and life was getting back on track. But then that man died, and Qianqian died. She lost both her husband and her daughter. After your father was released from prison, he came back to cause trouble, so she came to Beijing with me.”

"Her life was very hard, really hard."

"You can hate me if you want. If I hadn't testified, it would have been very difficult to collect evidence for many things."

After Li Rong finished speaking, she looked at the calm lake surface and waited for Li Nan's reply.

He had already buried his head between his knees, constantly pulling at his hair and groaning in pain.

Li Rong hesitated and raised her hand, wanting to pat his head like she did when they were little, but then lowered her hand again.

"I haven't dared to see her yet. Is she alright?"

Li Nan's voice came from beneath his legs: "She just died, right in front of me."

Li Rong nodded, "It's good that he's dead, it's good that he's dead, he'll be free from this."

She wrapped her scarf around her neck and put on her hat. "Seeing that you're doing well now puts my mind at ease. Qian Fang was worried that she would be scammed back then."

Li Nan asked in a hoarse voice, "What does my well-being have to do with her?"

“Someone called Qian Fang and said that as long as she went to the school to sign something, her future job would be secure. At first, she didn’t want to get involved, but she thought that if her job was stable, she wouldn’t bother her anymore, so she went. Although it sounds like she was doing it for herself, she still went, didn’t she?”

Li Nan slowly pieced together the timeline, and then heard her say, "But at the time I thought you would go after you finished your studies, but I didn't expect you to drop out so quickly. Now it seems you're doing well, so Qian Fang and I are relieved."

She turned her back to Li Nan and walked away very slowly, each step seemingly hoping that Li Nan would scold her.

They called her a troublemaker, saying she was the one who caused him to lose his father and grandmother.

The wind picked up, and it was a bit cold. Her back and hands were trembling, and she could barely hold the paper. She hastily wiped the coldness off her face with her scarf.

She walked until she could no longer see the lake, but Li Nan still hadn't scolded her.

She only found herself surrounded by people running in the opposite direction, shouting, "Someone jumped into the lake! Help! Help!"

Li Rong could no longer hold on and collapsed to the ground, sobbing uncontrollably.

It's all her fault.

The lake remained undisturbed, showing no sign that it had just swallowed a person.

On the bench, neatly folded, lay a suit, two cufflinks, a pair of leather shoes, a cell phone, and a watch.

The passerby opened Li Nan's phone and called Qiu Shiyue.

"You were the last person to make a call to this phone. He just jumped into the lake. Could you come to xx Park?"

Qiu Shiyue was truly exasperated. She wasn't from the crematorium; if someone died, they could just be taken away and burned. What did it have to do with her? She hung up the phone immediately.

A minute later, I received another text message saying that the owner of the phone had left valuables on the shore and that I should go and keep an eye on them.

She felt it was unlucky and didn't want to go.

Ten minutes later, Blizzard rushed to the scene.

The kind person saw Blizzard and spoke to him, "Were you the one who kept calling this phone?"

"It's me, it's me."

The passerby handed over the items and left.

Blizzard confirmed that the item on the bench belonged to Li Nan and sent a frustrated message to Jiang Yang: "I'm still a step too late."

……

When Blizzard and Jiang Yang came out of the police station, the sun had already set.

"Remember to send me the video he sent you before he left, and I will submit additional evidence."

Blizzard nodded, accidentally clicking "open" instead of "share," and Li Nan's youthful face reappeared on the screen, so vivid.

He confessed everything Qiu Shiyue had made him do, including his recent act of recognizing President Qiu as his godfather, all in the hopes that she would use him for her purposes in the future.

He knew everything, but he couldn't refuse.

"He recorded this video as he walked, so it must have been before he came to the lake. When I received it, I felt something was wrong, but it was too late."

Jiang Yang patted her shoulder, "What we need to do is bring Qiu Shiyue to justice. She just submitted a mental evaluation, and I'm very afraid that she will escape punishment because of it."

Blizzard was in a state of confusion and told Jiang Yang to go first.

She wandered aimlessly until she reached the hospital where Aunt Qian had lived.

She went upstairs and saw her empty hospital room, overwhelmed with mixed feelings.

Aunt Qian is gone, Li Nan is gone, but Qiu Shiyue still has people helping her.

She was really scared, scared that she wouldn't be able to do anything.

"Is anyone there? Is anyone there?"

The continuous shouts brought Blizzard back to his senses; it was people from the next ward calling out.

She glanced at the nurses' station and saw no one there. After thinking for a moment, she pushed open the door and said to the person inside, "There's no one at the nurses' station right now. You can call them again later."

After saying that, he was about to leave.

"Blizzard? Blizzard! Stop right there!"

She paused for a moment, then walked into the ward.

She was certain she didn't recognize the person in front of her, but she remembered that he was the one lying in a pool of blood with Aunt Qian, and that he was supposed to be dying.

The crew-cut man was incredibly excited. "I know you're curious about why I know you, but that's not the important thing right now. The important thing is that I can't get in touch with Xiangxiang. Please help me find her."

Blizzard frowned. "I don't understand what you're saying."

She went outside, but heard a clattering sound coming from inside.

She pushed the door open again and saw that the crew-cut man was lying on the floor, with things scattered all over the table. He was trying to sit up.

Upon seeing Blizzard return, he was overjoyed: "Qiu Shiyue, Qiu Shiyue! You know her! I'm going to kill her! She's the one who made me like this, so we're on the same page. But right now, we need to find Xiangxiang quickly!"
