I've been transported to the orc continent.

Chapter 2 The Long-Awaited Fragrance

The son has regained his senses, but Feng still can't break the habit and continues to speak to his son in a coaxing tone.

Bai Ling shuddered at the thought of what her father's cooking was like: "Father, I'll cook dinner."

Feng continued working, glancing at his son's face: "This won't do. I told you you need to rest more."

Bai Ling changed her strategy: "Then I'll talk, and Father will do it, okay?"

Feng nodded without hesitation: "Okay, you tell me, and I'll do it."

As long as the food is cooked, it's fine. Even if my son is wrong, I can just cook it a little longer.

The Bai family's thatched hut has three rooms: one for his father, one for him and his younger brother, and one for food storage.

Bai Ling took the vegetables, and then rolled out a pumpkin.

The pumpkin was similar to the pumpkin from his previous life, oval-shaped with a greenish-yellow skin, but much larger, about the size of a car wheel. The pumpkin tasted similar to the old pumpkin, but it was more mealy and lacked the pumpkin's delicate fragrance.

Among the vegetables Bai Ling brought were celery, but it was a giant celery that was several times larger than usual, and a kind of red vegetable that looked similar to a peace lily. This vegetable was called big leaf vegetable, and it had a very crisp taste. The beastmen liked to wrap roasted meat in this vegetable and eat it together.

Following Bai Ling's instructions, Feng washed the celery and leafy greens and cut them into palm-sized pieces. He also washed the pumpkin, cut it in half, and scooped out the pulp. Then, he chopped and minced the pumpkin into palm-sized pieces.

The pumpkin contained many seeds, probably several dozen. The bluish-white seeds were hard and firm, a sign that they were mature. Bai Ling picked out all the seeds and put them away. She planned to plant some around her house next year, which would make it much easier to eat pumpkins that way.

Bai Ling selected a piece of meat with alternating layers of fat and lean meat. Feng cut the meat into pieces about one centimeter thick and about half the size of a palm. He first soaked the pieces in water to remove the blood foam, and then took them out to dry later.

Feng returned to the house, opened the hearth, and took out a piece of still-red charcoal. The hearth in the yard was already covered with a layer of dry leaves. He buried the charcoal in the leaves, and soon black smoke began to rise.

Bai Ling took a large bone and put it into the earthenware pot on the fire pit. In addition to water and salt, Bai Ling also put celery stalks and leafy green stalks into the pot.

There are no seasonings in the orc world, so adding these two things is better than nothing.

The water in the earthenware pot quickly began to bubble and froth. Bai Ling held a seashell in her hand, skimming off the foam. Feng was puzzled: "Ling, why do you need to scoop out all this foam?"

Bai Ling: "Father, the bone broth tastes even better when cooked this way."

Feng pressed down on his son's hand and took the seashell from him: "Alright, I'll do these. You just watch from the side."

Bai Ling didn't argue with his father. His injuries hadn't fully healed, and after bowing his head for just a short while, he already felt a little dizzy.

He broke off two twigs, each about the thickness of a finger, which he would later use to pick the bones out of the earthenware pot.

Bai Ling prepared another earthenware pot, filled it with water, and then took two bones out of the earthenware pot and put them in the earthenware pot to soak.

After washing the earthenware pot clean, it was placed back on the fire pit. Once the water droplets in the pot had dried, Bai Ling used a seashell to scoop some animal fat and placed it on the pot. After adding the fat, he put the animal meat into the pot and began to stir-fry it.

With a sizzling sound, the aroma of oil and meat slowly wafted out.

The scent was so familiar yet so strange that Bai Ling almost burst into tears.

*

The wind, carrying two long branches, kept stirring the meat chunks in the earthenware pot. The fat on the meat chunks slowly melted, and the hot oil in the pot increased, gradually releasing the aroma of frying meat.

It's an indescribable fragrance that easily whets the appetite. Even beastmen can't resist the aroma of this hot, oily scent.

The wind sniffed and said, "It smells good."

Bai Ling laughed from the side, "Father, this is still a relatively simple meal. When conditions allow, I will make you something even more delicious."

Feng's eyes widened: "There's something even tastier?"

Bai Ling: "Okay, Father, just wait and see. I'll definitely make even more delicious food for our family."

Feng's eyes reddened again.

His eldest son was a source of deep worry for him. He had prayed to the Beast God countless times, willing to do anything to help his son recover. Now that his eldest son had finally returned to normal and even seemed to possess abilities that other beastmen lacked, the gratitude and joy in his heart were beyond words.

The meat was almost cooked, so Bai Ling threw two bones into the earthenware pot, filled it with water and salt, and that was it.

The earthenware pot had no lid, and the aroma of stewing meat and bones quickly wafted out. This aroma was completely different from the smell of meat I used to cook; it had an irresistible fragrance that made me want to feast right then and there.

The fragrance wafted in the wind, and soon guests arrived at Bai Ling's house.

This was a group of children, dressed in animal skin skirts, barefoot, their bright and curious eyes fixed on Bai Ling's earthenware pot. Two of the children were even drooling.

The orcs have difficulty reproducing. Of the more than two hundred people in the entire High Tree tribe, only a dozen or so are underage children under the age of eighteen. Sometimes, for two or three years in a row, no newborns are born in the tribe.

People like Bai Ling's father, who had two children and raised them both, were definitely the envy of the beastmen.

Orcs' offspring are precious. Even though Bai Ling is a little fool, the orcs in the tribe treat him very well. When Bai Ling's father goes out to gather and hunt, he entrusts Bai Ling to the care of the old orcs who stay behind in the tribe. The old orcs treat Bai Ling very well. Even though Bai Ling's father is not around, they have never made Bai Ling suffer any grievances.

These children were Bai Ling's friends in the tribe. They used to often go out together to pick wild fruits around the tribe.

As soon as they heard that Bai Ling could speak, the children came looking for him. However, before they even reached Bai Ling's house, they were all attracted by the fragrance wafting from it. The fragrance was like a hook, piercing their noses, and they couldn't help but run towards it.

The oldest of the group of children was named Qing. He handed the red fruit in his hand to Bai Ling and asked in a very serious tone, "Ling, this is for you."

The red berries are juicy, sweet and sour, and when fully ripe, they are even tastier than cherries. The orcs in the tribe love them, but because they are relatively rare, adult orcs rarely pick them and leave them for the young orcs.

Bai Ling is already an adult, so naturally she can't compete with these children for the red fruit.

Feng said from the side, "Ling, this is their kind gesture, please accept it." He pointed to the earthenware pot and said, "We cooked quite a lot of meat, let them eat before they leave."

The children cheered together.

Bai Ling shook her head: "This amount of meat might not be enough."
