A passerby in a horror movie
Chapter 12: An unexpected encounter with the male lead, get on the bus!
The four split into two groups. Li Haotian took the two professors to the state government, while Smith went home because his family was waiting for help.
Li Haotian understood the other party's perspective and didn't say anything more.
The two professors, however, insisted on following him. It wasn't that they didn't care about their families, but rather that they had long since lost contact with their families by phone and assumed they were probably dead, so going back would be pointless.
After leaving the CDC, the group picked up some guns from a nearby gun shop and then went their separate ways.
Smith found a car himself, while Li Haotian rode a motorcycle, carrying the two professors, towards the state government.
On the way, Professor Kerry couldn't help but ask Li Haotian about the zombies.
"Li, how did you know about the characteristics of the zombie virus? Have you done any special research on it?"
Professor Carey asked, puzzled.
I was at the CDC just now, and I was so scared that I forgot to ask. Now that I've come to my senses, I also feel that something is amiss.
The zombies appeared too suddenly; they were completely unprepared, let alone able to devise a way to deal with them.
However, Li Haotian found a solution before the large-scale zombie outbreak, which makes it hard not to be suspicious.
"Professor, now is not the time to worry about this. I only heard it from others."
Li Haotian didn't tell the truth. He couldn't very well say that he knew it from watching a movie, which was even more terrifying than a zombie outbreak.
"Li, since you knew the solution beforehand, why didn't you report it sooner? If you had reported it earlier, so many people wouldn't have died..."
Professor Abel, who was behind him, frowned.
We saw no fewer than ten thousand zombies along the way. It's estimated that the entire city of Boston has fallen. If we had dealt with them sooner, these people might still be alive.
"Hehe, don't you two know what kind of people the American government is? I'm just a nobody, I can't even get through the gate, and no one would believe me if I told them."
"Even if I force my way in, I'll be locked up as a madman, and I won't be able to protect myself then."
Li Haotian scoffed at Abel's words.
If it were a country across the ocean, Li Haotian would be willing to give it a try, but he was told in advance that it was better to forget about it in the United States.
As an Asian, he was already disliked, let alone reporting something like this.
Without absolute evidence, the higher-ups simply wouldn't believe it, and he also had no way of getting in touch with the big shots.
Moreover, he doesn't have much time. If he doesn't inject himself with the bacteria first, he might not be able to move an inch later.
He will only have a chance after the zombie outbreak is complete.
"Um...that makes sense."
Abel could not refute Li Haotian's words.
Not to mention Li Haotian, even this professor would have been in the same boat. If Abel had reported it before the zombie outbreak, it probably wouldn't have gotten any attention.
Abel wasn't well-known in academic circles, and his words weren't heeded by those in power.
After a moment of silence, Li Haotian sped along the road, continuing towards the state government. Along the way, there were scattered cars, all belonging to people fleeing the disaster.
"Hmm? Almost out of gas?"
As he drove, Li Haotian realized that the gas was almost gone, and the nearest gas station was still some distance away. He was afraid that this little bit of gas wouldn't be enough to get him anywhere.
Li Haotian planned to check if there were any broken-down cars ahead so he could take another one. There were quite a few such cars along the way; their owners had all turned into zombies, so naturally, the cars were left unattended.
"Tu tu tu tu."
Soon, the motorcycle started sputtering and was about to stop.
"Li, there's a motorhome up ahead."
Professor Kerry pointed to a white RV not far away. Li Haotian naturally saw it too, and using the remaining power, he drove the motorcycle to the side of the RV.
"There might be zombies inside, be careful."
Professor Carey offered a reminder.
Although the zombies won't attack them, they can still get injured if they get close.
Li Haotian looked at the RV and felt a sense of familiarity. Just as he got out of the vehicle and was about to open the door, a gun suddenly emerged from the window.
"Stop!"
A deep male voice came from inside the car, warning him not to make any rash moves.
Li Haotian immediately stopped what he was doing, took a few steps to the side, and dodged the gun barrel.
"Damn, I remember now, isn't that the male lead's car?!"
Li Haotian instantly realized that he had just watched the movie yesterday and knew the male lead's experiences very well.
This RV was the one the protagonist's family used when they fled Boston. On the way, the protagonist's daughter had an asthma attack, so they had to stop and drive to a pharmacy.
I never expected to run into him.
Li Haotian had considered going to the male lead before, since the male lead was a UN investigator, and with him there, communication with higher-ups would be much simpler.
However, he didn't know the other person at all, and he didn't know how long it would take to find them, so Li Haotian simply gave up on the male lead's storyline.
Unexpectedly, things turned out quite well, and he bumped into me on the road.
"who are you?"
When the familiar face appeared in front of Li Haotian, he almost burst out laughing.
With the male lead around, Li Haotian doesn't need to rush to the state government anymore.
This guy carries a satellite phone with him, which allows him to contact high-ranking government officials, much more useful than going to the state government.
"Don't shoot, we're not zombies."
Professor Carey saw the protagonist holding a gun and quickly explained.
"I understand, this RV is mine, get out of here."
The male protagonist, however, remained vigilant, assuming they were there to steal the car, and immediately rebuked them.
His whole family was in the car, and his daughter was having an asthma attack. He couldn't let someone steal the car.
“Sir, we mean no harm. Our car is out of gas, and we have something very important to report to the state government. Could you please give us a ride? We just need to get to a place where there are cars.”
Li Haotian quickly explained.
"The state government has probably been captured; there's no one there."
The protagonist, Gerry, shook his head. As a UN investigator, he knew far more than the average person.
Boston has fallen, and other places are not much better off; zombies have appeared all over the world.
"It's alright, as long as we have a satellite phone or an emergency contact number to higher-ups, we've discovered a way to deal with the zombies and need to report it to our superiors."
Li Haotian's words were like a bomb, and the male protagonist's eyes widened upon hearing them.
"Are you telling the truth?"
Gerry lowered his gun, leaned closer, and asked with a serious expression.
He had personally experienced the terror of zombies; in just a few hours, Boston had become a dead city.
If this continues, all of humanity in the world will likely perish.
Hearing that there is a solution would excite anyone.
"Of course, we have already conducted experiments, and these two professors from the CDC can attest to that."
Li Haotian pointed to Kerry and Abel; compared to himself, the two professors' titles were more believable.
"What method is it?"
Gerry hurriedly asked, while gesturing for the others to get into the car.
Unfortunately, his daughter is currently experiencing an asthma attack and doesn't have time to slowly communicate with Li Haotian and the other two.
Although letting three people onto the vehicle was somewhat dangerous, Li Haotian's words were too important, and Ge Li didn't want to miss even the slightest chance.
Seeing that the male lead agreed to let them get in the car, Li Haotian finally breathed a sigh of relief.
The three quickly got into the RV. Upon seeing Gerry's daughter's appearance, the two professors immediately realized that she was having an asthma attack and quickly took out an adrenaline vial from their medicine box.
Both of them carried a first-aid kit; one contained syringes for germs, and the other contained antibiotics and first-aid supplies, including adrenaline.
