The Journey to Godhood in Another World
Chapter 2 Crossing Earth
When I opened my eyes again, all I saw was white, a blinding white. The walls were pale, the sheets were snow-white, and the light filtering through the half-drawn curtains was also blindingly white, as if trying to devour all the colors in the world. The smell of disinfectant filled the air, pungent and cold, constantly penetrating my nostrils and stimulating every olfactory nerve.
Luo Li was somewhat dazed, her mind still replaying the events of her past life: the teetering spotlight, the unbearable pain, and Zhou Zhou's terrified eyes before she lost consciousness. Her heart felt like it was being gripped tightly by an invisible hand, a mixture of pain and relief. She was relieved to be able to wake up again, yet fearful that the unknown fate might bring even more suffering.
She slowly raised her hand, which felt so weak it seemed not to belong to her; her fingertips touched the cold edge of the bed. She turned her eyes, scanning the room. Several bouquets of flowers sat on the nearby cabinet; someone must have visited her, but the vibrant blossoms seemed out of place amidst the predominantly white surroundings. She tried to get up, but her body felt drained of strength, leaving her lying there listlessly, listening to her slightly rapid breathing echo in the silent room.
"Hiss—" Luo Li felt an unbearable pain in her head, as if it were about to explode. Just then, a memory that wasn't hers suddenly flooded her mind, replaying like a movie scene. It turned out that this was a parallel world remarkably similar to Earth, but its technological development far surpassed Earth's. However, its cultural and entertainment development lagged far behind, and its cultural heritage had suffered a break. In this world, Luo Li shared the same name as her and had just finished her college entrance exams. Luo Li's parents were both firefighters who died in the line of duty when she was still very young. At that time, she was innocent and naive, and from then on, she forever lost the protection of her parents.
She grew up under her grandmother's meticulous care. Every day, her grandmother's love was like warm sunshine, warming her world. But fate always seems to play tricks on people; when she was just starting high school, her grandmother also passed away due to illness. At that moment, Luo Li felt as if she had been abandoned by the whole world, her heart filled with helplessness and loneliness.
Fortunately, Luo Li consistently excelled academically. The school's tuition waiver was a glimmer of hope in the darkness, and coupled with the small inheritance left by her grandmother, she managed to get through high school, albeit with some difficulty. She knew she had no one to rely on but herself, so she never dared to slack off in her studies. She often told herself that she must be strong, that she couldn't let down her grandmother's kindness in raising her, and that she must rely on her own strength to survive in this world.
The turning point in her life came at the cozy and relaxing coffee shop where she worked. The coffee shop was filled with the rich aroma of roasted coffee beans, warm lighting gently illuminated every corner, the wooden floor gleamed softly under the lights, and soothing music flowed like a gentle stream in the air.
Luo Li was busy with her part-time job at the coffee shop as usual. Suddenly, a child's scream shattered the tranquility. She looked up and saw a child standing in panic directly beneath the huge crystal chandelier, which was shaking violently and about to crash down on the child. Luo Li's heart clenched, and a strong sense of duty drove her to rush over without hesitation.
In the instant the chandelier shattered, countless thoughts flashed through Luo Li's mind—a reluctance to part with life, and an unwillingness to accept her impending demise, but she did not regret her choice. A sharp pain struck, and her world plunged into darkness.
When consciousness returned, it was at this very moment. Luo Li was filled with doubt. Was it because she was hit by the lamp that she ended up in this body? Her mind was a mess, and she tried hard to sort out her current situation.
Recalling the scene from before, she had lost consciousness after being hit by the crystal chandelier while saving a child in danger. And now, she found herself in this strange yet familiar body. She slowly turned her head and saw the pristine white hospital room around her, gradually realizing what had happened. It turned out that the child's parents, out of gratitude and kindness, had rushed her to the hospital after she was hit. Lying in the hospital bed, Luo Li felt a mix of emotions. She was shocked by this sudden turn of events and somewhat bewildered, unsure of what awaited her next.
