Chapter 85: The Real and the Fake Traitors?
Everyone's attention was focused on the hive city, while the Asgardian Army paid no attention to the several outposts behind it. Kane felt that there must be something wrong here, so he sent Russell and his men to destroy one of the outposts to see what was going on inside.
To facilitate the Cadian warriors' surprise attack, the Steel Legion first deployed countless smoke bombs.
Thick smoke quickly filled the entire battlefield.
"Captain Russell, it's your turn!" a captain from the Steel Legion reminded Russell.
Russell smiled slightly and said: "Watch our Cardinal Legion!"
The plan was simple: Russell would lead a thousand Cardinal warriors in a surprise attack, while the Iron Legion would follow up to eliminate the rebels.
Although the battlefield was shrouded in smoke, Russell did not intend to launch a frontal assault. Instead, he adopted a method similar to that of the Space Marines, using a spaceship to directly charge into the enemy ranks.
Dozens of airdrop pods fell from the sky, but the enemy's anti-aircraft guns had no effect due to the thick smoke.
Russell's spacecraft landed directly into the trench, and several rebels who couldn't dodge in time were smashed into mincemeat.
The hatch opened and Russell leaped out. The Fire Kirin opened fire wildly. The Fire Kirin was now extremely powerful, and the rebels' tactical armor was no match for it. More than a dozen rebels were knocked to the ground by Russell almost instantly.
This time, Russell was well prepared, carrying twenty batteries with him. Each battery could fire eighty bullets, so twenty batteries would fire 1,600 bullets.
They charged through the rebel positions while firing, rampaging through the enemy lines.
As the smoke gradually dissipated, the rebels, who had been thrown into disarray by the sudden attack, gradually stabilized and began to organize a strong counterattack.
Countless rebels began rushing towards them, trying to stop Russell and his men.
The fire unicorn relentlessly spewed out deadly lasers, turning any rebels who dared to appear in front of Russell into sieves.
"Watch out!" a Cardian warrior warned Russell.
Russell turned around and saw a rebel leap down from the trench and pounce on him, smashing his entrenching tool toward Russell's head.
Russell sneered and reached out his left hand to grab the rebel's wrist. With a forceful squeeze, the rebel screamed as Russell shattered his wrist bone. Then, with a casual throw, the rebel was sent hurtling towards the rebels like a cannonball, knocking several of them to the ground.
The force required to grasp and throw this object was something Russell could never have done in the past, but now it seems incredibly effortless.
Russell rushed over in a few strides. Just as a rebel was about to stand up and fight back, Russell slapped the rebel across the face.
Blood and teeth gushed from the rebel's mouth, and he was beaten unconscious.
Just as another rebel staggered to his feet, Russell grabbed him by the collar, lifted him up, and roared: "Why did you betray us?"
"You, you are the traitors, you monster who looks like a bear!"
Russell was taken aback and said: "I am a lieutenant of the 357th Regiment of the Cardia Commando, how could I be a traitor?"
"I am the Zalaka Guard, the Emperor's most loyal guards. You traitors from another world, though you are powerful, we will not fear you," the rebel roared.
Russell was taken aback by the rebels' words. Just as he was in a daze, another rebel rushed up and swung his entrenching tool at Russell's forearm.
This section of forearm was unprotected by armor. If it were Russell in the past, his forearm might have been severed. But this section of forearm was thicker than a human thigh and full of steel-like muscles, so the shovel only cut a large gash a dozen centimeters long.
"You're asking for death!" Russell roared, grabbing one of the rebels and slamming him against another. The two rebels collided violently, their skulls shattering.
Since the rebels were beyond redemption, Russell had no intention of letting them go and roared: "Kill them all!"
"Captain, are you injured and need bandaging?"
Russell shook his head and said: No need, continue the fight.
This minor injury will heal on its own in less than half an hour; there's no need to waste time bandaging it.
The Steel Legion launched an attack. Because the rebels were fighting on two fronts and could not deal with the Steel Legion with all their might, the Steel Legion successfully captured the position this time. The rebels had no choice but to retreat into a huge and dilapidated building.
"Break down the gate and rush in," Russell ordered.
The two Lemanustank bombarded the building relentlessly, smashing the main gate to pieces.
Three Rhino troop carriers sped into the building, and the moment they entered, they were engulfed in bullets.
However, none of this could stop the speed of the troop carrier. It quickly rushed out of the range of fire and stopped in a place with cover.
Russell led the Cardinal warriors off the vehicle quickly to organize a counterattack.
Explosions and gunfire erupted throughout the building.
In this complex environment, the superior combat skills of the Kadian warriors were immediately apparent. They quickly dispersed into groups of five, flanking and outmaneuvering the rebels, who were killed one after another.
The upper floors of the building were quickly cleared, and a large number of Iron Legion soldiers entered.
“You guard this place. I’m taking the Cadian warriors deep into the basement,” Russell said to the captain of the Steel Legion.
"If you need support, we're ready to go in anytime!"
"Ok!"
Venturing deeper into the basement would inevitably lead to resistance from the rebels, so Russell led the way, a massive steel shield in his left hand.
This shield weighs over 100 pounds, making it difficult for an ordinary person to lift, but in Russell's hands it's like an ordinary shield.
They encountered fierce resistance as soon as they began to descend; gunfire and grenade explosions could not break through their defenses.
The rebels were forced to retreat step by step, and soon they reached the open area in the basement, where the rebels rushed in from all directions.
The Cadian warriors quickly retaliated, with Russell holding a giant shield in his left hand and firing a gun in his right.
Soon, a very conspicuous figure appeared among the rebels: Oglin, who was covered in heavy armor.
Oglin charged madly toward Russell and his men, showing no fear of the laser weapons.
"Finally, a decent enemy has arrived!" Russell sneered, sheathing the Fire Kirin and drawing the Blood Drinker from his waist.
“Traitor!” Oglin roared.
Russell was stunned; even O'Glenn was calling himself a traitor.
"Get out of the way, let me deal with him!" Russell roared.
He wanted to test his current strength against Oglinby.
He used all his strength to brace against the heavy shield, and Oglin crashed into him.
A loud "bang" was heard.
Russell felt a tremendous force emanating from the giant shield, which made half of his body go numb.
