Chapter 23 Orcs
Although the battle was extremely fierce, Russell's gains were enormous. He obtained a total of 2500 shell fragments, which he combined into 250 shells. Each shell increased his defense by 0.1 points, for a total increase of 25 points. This level of defense wasn't high; it was equivalent to the defense of a light body armor vest.
The once bustling campsite was now deserted.
As a soldier, Russell was a little disoriented without war.
During this period of leisure, he became close friends with Zog from the Catachan tribe.
"I want to sign up for the body modification program and become a Space Marine."
The battles of the past few days had left a deep impression on Zog. Only Space Marines could fight against such a powerful creature as the Hive Overlord; ordinary people like them were simply no match for it.
“I’ve heard that the success rate of Space Marine modification surgery is very low, and the mortality rate is very high,” Russell reminded him.
Zog stopped talking. Of course he knew all this. He had been invited by the warbands before, but he had declined, mainly because he was afraid of the surgery failing.
Zog thought for a moment and said: This time I really made up my mind. If it weren't for the Space Marines, we would probably all have died in the battle a while ago. I'm lucky to be alive now. If I really died during the modification surgery, I would be out of luck.
Russell didn't know what to say, so he just gulped down a glass of beer.
"If my surgery is successful under the Emperor's blessing, then I will be a Space Marine. As a Space Marine, I can better serve the Emperor with my loyalty." Thinking of this, the Catachan man smiled sheepishly.
Russell smiled too.
“Have you ever thought about becoming a Space Marine?” Zog asked Russell.
Russell nodded and said: Of course I have. Every Star Guardian has this dream, but there are too many restrictions. It's impossible for everyone to become a Space Marine. I don't believe I'm that lucky. Besides, you and I are different. You are a Catachan. Elite jungle warriors have far superior qualities to ordinary people. I am just an ordinary Star Guardian, an ordinary person. No chapter is willing to invite me.
Just as the two were talking, a member of the Cardia Commando walked over from a distance.
"Captain Russell, Commissar Kane asked me to come see you."
Russell glanced at the visitor and asked, "Is there something you need?"
“Commissar Kane didn’t say it directly, he just said that he wanted you to go back and he had something to discuss with you.”
Russell nodded and said: Okay.
Then Russell glanced at Zog and said, "Brother Zog, I'm going back."
Zog waved his hand and said: You go ahead!
After Russell left, Zog finished his beer and left too, deciding to become a Space Marine.
Kane's recruitment plan has been progressing smoothly during this period, so he has been very busy.
"Sir, are you looking for me?"
Commissar Kane was writing something. After Russell asked him a question, he looked up and said, "There's something I need you to do."
"whats the matter?"
"Someone found a crashed fighter jet at this location, and based on their description, I suspect it was an Orc fighter jet."
"Orcs!"
Commissar Kane nodded and said: Yes, the orc invasion has spread to several planets, and they are all planets around us. It would not be surprising if orc fighters landed here.
In Russell's mind, orcs were absolutely terrifying enemies; these green-skinned monsters were covered in huge muscles and possessed immense strength.
"When to set off?"
"The sooner the better. I'll send you there in a Thunder Eagle fighter jet."
Russell selected over a hundred Astronauts to ride on five Thunderhawks. He wanted to bring more Astronauts, but unfortunately, the Thunderhawks couldn't carry that many.
The Thunder Eagle fighter jet swept over countless hills and jungles before finally arriving at the designated location: the wreckage of the crashed fighter jet.
The Thunderhawk fighter jet landed slowly, and Russell and his men disembarked after the hatch opened.
"Be on guard!" Russell whispered a warning.
The Kadia commandos quickly formed a defensive formation, and Russell gripped the Fire Kirin tightly, ready to fire at any moment.
He carefully walked to the wreckage of the fighter jet, examined it closely, and immediately confirmed that the fighter jet belonged to the orcs.
Orcish items are characterized by their ruggedness, or even extreme ruggedness. This fighter jet is particularly exaggerated, with its fuselage covered in outrageous patterns. The nose is shaped like a giant shark, and the wings are so large they seem disproportionate.
He glanced at the driver's cab again but didn't find any orc corpses inside, which made him frown slightly.
He would feel much more at ease if he saw the orc's corpse, but since he hasn't seen it, it means that the orc has survived by chance and left this place.
After searching for a while, nothing of value was found.
"Captain, look, there's blood here!" a Kadia commando said, pointing to a drop of blood on a rock.
Russell quickly went over to take a look.
Orcs have abnormal physical abilities; wounds that are unbearable for humans are commonplace for them.
"This orc has probably recovered. What we need to do next is find it and kill it."
"Captain, how should we search?"
"Divide into five teams of twenty men each. Once you find the orcs, eliminate them immediately." Russell said coldly.
He was well aware of the threat posed by the orcs and treated them the same as insects, determined to exterminate them completely.
One hundred commandos were divided into five teams to search in all directions.
Russell led 20 commandos to search for the orcs' blood.
They soon arrived at a dense forest, and Russell raised his hand to signal everyone to stop.
He had a hunch that if he went deeper, he would definitely encounter orcs.
Just as he was hesitating about whether to go further, he suddenly heard screams coming from afar.
Russell immediately said: Quick, the brothers need our support.
They moved quickly toward the source of the screams.
"Roar!" A huge orc suddenly burst out of the jungle.
Three assault team members were knocked to the ground.
"Fire!" Russell roared.
The fire unicorn unleashed a barrage of fire at the orcs.
However, the orcs reacted quickly and fled into the jungle, disappearing without a trace.
"Captain, look!" Russell saw an unbelievable scene amidst the exclamation of a commando: the ground was littered with the corpses of commandos, all of them with severed limbs.
Russell, drenched in cold sweat, exclaimed: "Everyone be careful! The enemy is hiding nearby!"
"Roar!" Two angry roars rang out, and two orcs charged out from the left and right, each holding a huge cleaver.
These two orcs were enormous, each nearly three meters tall, clad in black plate armor, their muscles appearing extremely ferocious.
