The Reborn Princess Has Turned Evil
Chapter 9 Visiting Uncle
Before getting out of the carriage, Jing Anle instructed the guards to rest and asked Afang to take the carriage to the back gate of the General's Mansion to feed the horses. Afang naturally understood the deeper meaning behind this.
In the blink of an eye, they arrived at the General's Mansion. The palace had already sent someone to inform her uncle, and a group of people were already waiting at the entrance of the General's Mansion, including her maternal grandmother.
As soon as she got out of the car, Jing Anle saw a group of people about to bow to her. Jing Anle stopped them in time and whispered, "There is no need to bow. I am not a princess today, but just a cousin of the General's Mansion."
The crowd then stopped talking. Jing Anle immediately spotted the old woman in the crowd. She was wearing a dark purple coat and a gold necklace. She had a kind face and her eyes were filled with tears. He knew that this was his maternal grandmother, so he rushed into her arms and called out affectionately, "Grandmother!"
Although Jing Anle was dressed simply today, without wearing princess attire, her aura was undeniable.
When the old woman saw Jing Anle, it was as if she were seeing her own daughter. Jing Anle's features were exactly like the late empress's, only with a touch more coldness. Seeing that although she was a princess, she was unusually warm and unpretentious, her eyes were a little moist. She said kindly, "Princess, it's been many years. How have you been?"
“Everything is fine,” Jing Anle replied.
Then she saw a middle-aged man standing next to her, with sword-like eyebrows and bright eyes, a dignified and imposing presence, and an upright posture. His appearance was somewhat similar to that of her elder brother, Jing Fengyao. Knowing that this was her uncle, she obediently greeted him, "Hello, Uncle!"
Seeing his sensible niece, Qin Xu said happily, "Good, good!" He then introduced her to Jing Anle, "This is your cousin Qin Xiuyuan, and your cousin Qin Zhihua."
Jing Anle followed his gaze and saw that her uncle's two children were both good-looking. Her cousin was elegant and her cousin was beautiful. When she thought of their fate in their previous life, Jing Anle's eyes darkened involuntarily.
Qin Xiuyuan and Qin Zhihua smiled at Jing Anle. The two had only seen Jing Anle from afar at palace banquets before and had never interacted with her. Now that they saw her, they both felt that this princess was not only beautiful but also approachable.
Qin Xiuyuan, in particular, never took his eyes off Jing Anle from the moment she stepped off the carriage.
Seeing Jing Anle in a daze, Qin Xu quickly said, "Let's go inside first and talk about it."
So a group of people escorted Jing Anle into the General's Mansion; this was her first time there.
After passing through the winding courtyards, she finally reached the main hall. Remembering that Xiao Heng was still in the carriage, she went straight to the point and said to Qin Xu, "Uncle, I have something I'd like to talk to you about privately."
Jing Anle was, after all, a princess. Although they hadn't seen each other for many years, everyone was smart enough to know that important matters were at stake, so they all withdrew on their own.
After she finished explaining the situation, Qin Xu naturally understood the implications, so he quickly ordered his trusted aides to take Xiao Heng to a secret room, making sure no one could see him.
"Thank you, Uncle. This matter is of great importance. Please take good care of me," Jing Anle said.
Qin Xu had only heard rumors in the palace that the princess was spoiled and only loved to admire flowers and make merry. But Jing Anle spoke clearly and logically, so he felt that the rumors in the palace were really unbelievable.
So Qin Xu said, "Of course, don't worry. The servants in the General's Mansion are all people I brought back from the border. They are very discreet. Fortunately, the General's Mansion has a military doctor who has been in service for many years. I have already sent him along."
Jing Anle nodded in satisfaction. Only then did she notice that Qin Xu was over forty years old, but almost half of his hair had turned white, which she guessed was due to the hardships of fighting and his exhaustion.
Thinking of her uncle's fate in her previous life, Jing Anle felt a lump in her throat and asked, "Does Uncle know about the Qi Kingdom?"
"Qi Kingdom?" Qin Xu muttered to himself, "Qi Kingdom has always coexisted peacefully with our Jing Kingdom and has not done anything offensive." He then looked at Jing Anle: "Why do you say that, Princess?"
Yes, who could have imagined that the Qi Kingdom, which had always coexisted peacefully, would be the final executioner?
Jing Anle sat down and said, "Uncle, to be honest, I have something I'd like to ask you to investigate secretly."
Qin Xu's army is strong and his generals are brave, which has been a source of fear for a long time. His military power has been divided up, but no matter what, the future crown prince will naturally be Jing Fengyao.
Qin Xu then cupped his hands and said, "Please give your orders, Princess."
"I want you to investigate Murong Peifeng, the heir of the Pingchang Marquis's mansion, and Prince Qing," Jing Anle said quietly, her voice somewhat cold.
"Them?" Qin Xu asked, somewhat puzzled. These two were clearly unrelated, and what connection did they have with the Qi Kingdom?
Jing Anle didn't dare to directly state that they were colluding with each other, so he could only let Qin Xu investigate, and then the truth would naturally come out.
So Jing Anle made up an excuse, "Prince Qing appears calm on the surface, but he has been itching to make a move for a long time. I have only received scattered information. For the rest, I still need my uncle's help."
Qin Xu was already somewhat surprised that she knew such important news, but seeing Jing Anle's solemn expression, she didn't ask any more questions. She just needed to find some clues first, and then the truth would naturally come out.
The two finished talking and came out of the room, where Afang was already waiting.
"Uncle, I want to go and visit my maternal grandmother!" We were so focused on talking about important matters earlier, but now that we've finished, I need to go and see my maternal grandmother.
Qin Xu nodded, knowing that the grandmother and granddaughter must have something to say to each other, so he called over a maid, "Pingxiang, quickly take the princess to the old woman's courtyard."
So Jing Anle and Afang went with them, and Qin Xu didn't dare to delay and quickly went to the secret room to check on Xiao Heng's injuries.
Because Pingxiang was walking ahead and close by, she didn't feel comfortable asking about Xiao Heng's situation and just wanted to go check on him later.
Before long, they arrived at the old woman's courtyard, Sui'an Residence. Just as they reached the entrance, the waiting old woman greeted them with a smile, "Princess, the old lady is waiting for you inside!"
Jing Anle nodded in acknowledgment. Upon entering, she saw the old lady and her personal maid waiting for her at the entrance to the inner hall. Seeing the elderly woman, Jing Anle quickened her pace and said, "Grandmother, it's windy outside, let's go in quickly." Then, Jing Anle helped the old lady inside.
When the old lady heard Jing Anle's concern for her, she couldn't stop smiling and said, "This old woman is still in good health, it's nothing to worry about."
The old lady carefully examined Jing Anle and couldn't help but say, "She looks just like her, so much like her." As she spoke, she couldn't help but wipe away her tears. The nanny next to her quickly advised, "Old lady, don't cry. Be careful not to hurt yourself. If the eldest young lady were here, she wouldn't want to see you like this either."
The young lady she was referring to was none other than the late Empress Qin Yin, Jing Anle's mother.
Jing Anle understood that her grandmother missed her daughter dearly and that seeing her reminded her of her mother. She quickly comforted her, saying, "Grandmother, although Mother is no longer here, Anle will visit you often to fulfill my filial duty in place of Mother."
The old lady then calmed down and said some casual words.
At this moment, her cousin Qin Zhihua entered from outside. She stood gracefully, with a charming and refined demeanor, and sweetly greeted, "Princess, Grandmother."
The old man beckoned to Qin Zhihua, signaling her to come over, and introduced her to Jing Anle: "According to seniority, this is your cousin Zhihua."
Jing Anle stood up and said with a smile, "Hello, cousin." As a princess, she didn't need to get up, but Qin Zhihua's goodwill towards Jing Anle deepened when she saw how polite she was.
She didn't dare call her cousin, and replied, "I met the princess once before, and now the princess is even more stunningly beautiful."
"I think my cousin is the real beauty, a fairy descended from heaven!" Jing Anle walked over, took Qin Zhihua's hand, and praised her. The two girls chatted like this, holding hands.
The old lady smiled happily as she saw the two of them getting along so well.
