The sun was already exceptionally bright at three or four in the morning, its radiant light bathing all living things on earth. Every household in the family compound was bustling with activity. Seeing the good weather, Tian Xiufen had already strung up a line in the yard to air out her quilts. However, this good sunlight only lasted for a few hours before the sky began to change. The wind picked up, and dark clouds covered the sun, turning everything pitch black. Almost instantly, large raindrops began to pelt the ground with great speed and force.

"Oh dear, how could the weather change so suddenly? Gou Dan, come out and bring in the blankets!" Tian Xiufen called to her son, who was still leisurely eating breakfast inside. The family hurriedly brought the blankets back in, but they were still quite wet. "Oh well, all that drying was for nothing."

Seeing that Gou Dan was still gnawing on a cornbread, Tian Xiufen tapped him on the head and said, "Eat, eat, all you know is how to eat. I called you several times in the yard, why are you so slow? I'll cover you with this blanket tonight."

For others, rainy days mean clothes won't dry, commuting to and from get off work is inconvenient, and the lack of sunshine is uncomfortable. However, Shu Yun particularly likes drizzly weather. She slept until 10 a.m. before stretching and waking up from her dream. She was so sound asleep that she didn't even know when Gu Jun left.

She turned over in the soft, warm bed, turning her face to look at the rain outside the window. The rain was pattering against the window with the wind, and there was a faint whooshing sound of the wind. Everything made Shu Yun feel exceptionally comfortable. She lay there like that, watching the rain, and she wasn't hungry at all.

However, she wasn't hungry, but Ah Xi was starving. Gu Jun had left early in the morning and hadn't gotten used to having a little one in the house yet. After making breakfast and keeping it warm in the pot, he hurriedly returned to the military camp. He didn't even realize that there was a puppy crying for food, nor did he notice that before he left, Ah Xi had been following him around his feet very affectionately, drooling and wagging her tail vigorously.

The bedroom door wasn't closed, leaving a crack. However, Shu Yun usually didn't let A happy in, so even with the door open, A Xi just wandered around outside, barking softly a few times. When she was really hungry, she gently scratched at the door with her paws, which finally caught Shu Yun's attention.

Shu Yun got up, quickly tied her hair up, put on her coat, and just as she stepped out, she saw Ah happy carrying a dog bowl that was cleaner than her face, wagging her tail and wiggling her little bottom.

Shu Yun beckoned Ah Xi over and quickly dried him off with a towel. Ah Xi had just been caught in the rain, and his fur was soaked and clumped together. The little guy seemed to enjoy Shu Yun's care, obediently squatting on the ground without making a fuss.

Shu Yun wouldn't let Axi go out either. She placed the dog bowl by the living room door, mixed the leftover food from last night together, and poured it into the bowl. Shu Yun got up, and Axi immediately rushed to the bowl and started eating, clearly starving.

Shu Yun found it amusing and reached out to stroke A happy's fur. A happy wasn't possessive of its food, at least not towards Shu Yun. Every time Shu Yun petted it, it was very good-natured.

Ah-Xi has been living with them for a while now. The shaved fur has grown back into short, downy hair, making her look much more pleasing and cute than before when she was hairless. However, once the fur grows back, she's a total little black charcoal, with shiny black eyes and a shiny black tongue. Her whole body has no other color. If you're not careful at night, the puppy can easily turn invisible.

Seeing that the puppy was eating heartily, she went to the kitchen and took out the warm breakfast. Gu Jun had a big appetite, and the things he gave her were always in excessive portions. A white steamed bun, a twisted roll, and a bowl of white rice porridge were enough for Shu Yun to have for lunch.

Shu Yun saw the comic strip he had shown Gu Jun yesterday on the table. He picked it up and found a piece of paper underneath. The handwriting on it was bold and vigorous, with a touch of unrestrained freedom only at the end of each stroke. This was probably what it meant to be a free spirit.

Shu Yun read the contents of the letter with a smile: "Hello, Comrade Shu Yun. It is a great honor to have your trust and the opportunity to appreciate your work. First of all, I would like to express my sincere praise for your artistic creation. Every figure in the painting is lively and full of life, which immediately attracted my attention. The brushstrokes are grand yet pay attention to details. The composition of the whole picture, down to the veins of a leaf, is depicted very realistically."

However, I also have a few questions. On page 12, Mingliang says: "...could this sentence be replaced with..., which might be more appropriate..."

At the end of the note, Gu Jun also wrote: I think Comrade Shu Yun, your work is excellent, I like it very much, please believe that this is my objective evaluation.

Signed at the end by your beloved Gu Jun.

Shu Yun sat at her desk and read through the letter again, revising it to address Gu Jun's questions and adding details to the plot.

Finally, she took the letter, gently ran her hand over the writing, smoothed out the curled edges, carefully tucked it into her notebook, and placed it in her desk drawer.

After thinking for a moment, Shu Yun also took out a piece of stationery and wrote a reply to Gu Jun.

For a moment, apart from the sound of rain, there was only the rustling of pens scratching across paper.

The rain gradually subsided. Shu Yun put down her pen, stretched, and looked out the window, only to see her furry child splashing around happily in the rain.

The soft fur that Shu Yun had dried was now all drooping down, and the little dog's paws were mischievously stomping into the mud puddles, making it a truly soaking wet dog.

Shu Yun took a deep breath, opened the window, and called out, "A-happy."

Hearing the commotion, Ah happy was overjoyed. Completely oblivious to her master's expression, she slammed on the brakes and ran into the house, soon leaving plum blossom-shaped footprints on the floor.

Shu Yun rubbed her temples, then picked up Ah Xi by its two front paws and lifted it up. "Why are you so naughty? You're not well-behaved at all."

The puppy twitched its wet nose, tilted its head, and then shook its fur, instantly scattering mud splattering everywhere, ruining Shu Yun's clothes.

"Xiaoyun, are you feeling better?"

Gu Jun had just closed his umbrella when a dirty little puppy was shoved into his arms. Ah Xi barked once and wriggled a few times, clearly not wanting to stay by Gu Jun's side.

Shu Yun: "It's perfect that you're back. Take this dirty little dog to get a bath, and I need to change my clothes too. Look, I'm covered in mud from when it fell on me."

As Shu Yun spoke, she poked the puppy's head several times with her hand.

Seeing that she was in good spirits and had a healthy complexion, Gu Jun felt much relieved. He picked up the dog by the scruff of its neck, filled a bucket with water, and threw Ah happy into it.

Ah Xi likes water, but is also afraid of it, especially water that soaks its whole body. It whimpers and tries to crawl out, but Gu Jun holds it firmly down with his big hands. It can only whimper and let him do whatever he wants.
