Shu Yun's blunt words seemed to tear off Granny Jiang's last fig leaf. Her old face contorted, the wrinkles on her face piled up, and the deep furrows looked terrifying. She was breathing heavily, and even Kong Ping, who was being pulled by her, shrank into the corner in fear and dared not make a sound.

Ah happy rushed forward, biting Jiang Pozi's cloth shoe and refusing to let go, but was kicked away by Jiang Pozi.

Shu Yun panicked, "What are you doing?" She picked up the dog and looked it over, only to breathe a sigh of relief when she saw that it wasn't hurt.

"What am I supposed to do! You're just a junior, how dare you talk to me like that? You're a worthless brat!" Granny Jiang blurted out a string of curses, even trying to grab Shu Yun's hair, but Gu Jun grabbed her and restrained her. "Should I call Jiang Fuchang over?"

Gu Jun's large hand gripped Granny Jiang's wrist tightly, squeezing hard, causing Granny Jiang to regain some of her senses in pain. "No, Commander Gu, let's talk this out."

She then realized that Gu Jun was someone even her son wouldn't dare to mess with. Finally feeling the coldness emanating from him, she shrank back and lowered her head. Gu Jun waved his hand and released Granny Jiang. "If I see you messing with my wife again, I'll have a good talk with Jiang Fuchang. He'll know what to do."

Granny Jiang staggered and immediately ran out of the courtyard. Seeing this, Kong Ping didn't dare to stay any longer and followed Granny Jiang out.

Enraged, Shu Yun threw a broom in the direction the two had left. She missed, but Kong Ping was terrified. Looking back, she tripped over her own feet and fell straight onto Granny Jiang. Kong Ping wasn't hurt, but Granny Jiang beneath her cried out in pain.

"What a tragedy! The daughter-in-law is bullying her mother-in-law!" Granny Jiang immediately shifted her anger to another target, punching and kicking Kong Ping outside Shu Yun's door.

Shu Yun slammed the door shut, and the world became much quieter.

Gu Jun frowned. "I'll have a good talk with Jiang Fuchang later and tell him to keep an eye on his mother."

The day was full of ups and downs. Shu Yun cried and had another fight with Granny Jiang. By evening, she was quite exhausted and went to bed early.

She didn't sleep very soundly, and started having strange and fantastical dreams. One moment it was her modern life, and the next, her memories seemed to drift back to when she was five years old.

She stood at the street corner, a tiny girl clutching a doll. The doll's white tutu was stained red, and blood dripped from her forehead into her eyes. But she didn't blink, staring intently, or rather, blankly, at the car accident in front of her. Her parents had been hit and killed by a truck right before her eyes.

Painful memories washed over her, causing her to feel alternating chills and fever.

The dream kept changing scenes. One moment she was Shu Yun in the 1970s, sitting happily with her family in the living room eating. But the next second, everyone's face was covered in blood, which flowed more and more, covering everyone's face. The quiet living room was silent, and the surrounding environment was pitch black, as if she was the only one left.

Shu Yun felt as if a huge rock was blocking her heart; she was heartbroken.

Hearing the noise, Gu Jun got up, turned on the wall lamp, and found that Shu Yun's brows were furrowed, her pale face was covered with sweat and tears, and her body was trembling involuntarily.

Gu Jun was instantly wide awake and quickly pulled Shu Yun into his arms, gently patting her while calling her name, trying to pull her out of the nightmare.

Gradually, Shu Yun's breathing calmed down, her body relaxed, and she unconsciously nestled in Gu Jun's arms.

Shu Yun was sleeping soundly, but her clothes were already soaked with sweat. Gu Jun had to wake her up. "Xiao Yun, wake up. Change your clothes before you go back to sleep, okay?"

Shu Yun was groggily awakened by Gu Jun. She squinted and whispered, "What's wrong?"

Gu Jun: "Change your clothes, otherwise you'll easily catch a cold."

Shu Yun agreed and lay in bed for a while. She felt the chill after her body was soaked with sweat, shivered, got up to change her clothes, and then lay back down on the bed.

Shu Yun covered herself with the blanket, turned her head to Gu Jun and said, "I'm going to sleep."

"Okay, go to sleep." Gu Jun turned off the light, but didn't dare to fall into a deep sleep, checking on Shu Yun's condition from time to time.

As expected, something went wrong in the middle of the night. A burning hot body pressed against Gu Jun's side, its temperature abnormally high. Gu Jun touched Shu Yun's forehead and found she had a fever.

Gu Jun got up and called to Shu Yun, but she was delirious from the fever. She could respond to people, but she didn't wake up.

Gu Jun wet a towel with cool water and placed it on Shu Yun's forehead, then wiped her limbs to cool her down.

He made a cup of cold medicine, nudged Shu Yun, and helped her up. Only then did Shu Yun reluctantly open her eyes and mutter, "My head is so dizzy."

Gu Jun blew on the still-steaming cold medicine and held it to Shu Yun's lips, "You have a cold, drink some of the powder first and see if it can lower your fever."

Shu Yun lowered her head and slowly drank the cold medicine following Gu Jun's movements, but her little face scrunched up. "It's so bitter."

Gu Jun popped a candied fruit into her mouth, "Don't drink water first, eat some candied fruit to get rid of the taste."

After taking the medicine, Shu Yun's condition improved a lot. She drank water once when she was thirsty, and her temperature dropped. However, at this moment, a faint ray of dawn was already shining through the night.

Shu Yun had recovered a lot and then noticed Gu Jun leaning against the headboard, half-asleep. He had dark circles under his eyes again, and his beard had grown quite a bit because he hadn't slept all night. Shu Yun felt a little sorry for him. "Gu Jun, Gu Jun."

Gu Jun: "Hmm? What's wrong?"

Shu Yun tugged at his sleeve. "You should lie down and get some sleep. It's still early. I feel much better now."

Gu Jun touched her forehead and lay down after confirming that her temperature was normal. "You should sleep a little longer too."

"Hmm." Shu Yun turned to her side, pressing her face against her hand, looking at the man sleeping with his eyes closed in front of her. She had a vague memory of everything that happened last night.

She remembered that Gu Jun woke her up during her nightmare. His voice, Shu Yun, was firm and warm, as if it contained endless power that could cross all obstacles, reach her dream, wake her up, and soothe her soul.

She also remembered Gu Jun gently patting her back and taking care of her all night without taking off his clothes.

"Why are you looking at me? Go to sleep."

Shu Yun didn't expect to meet Gu Jun's open eyes and be caught red-handed. Before she could even turn over to sleep, she was pulled into Gu Jun's warm embrace, and he whispered, "Sleep."

Shu Yun hugged his arm, closed her eyes, and drifted into a sweet dream.
