Chapter 198 The remnants of the empire?
"It feels like you're even more backward than the human empire..." El muttered to himself as he slowly walked down the dusty street.
The streets were lined with low, dilapidated houses that looked like they were made of mud, giving the impression that they were about to collapse.
If it weren't for the various oddly shaped spaceships parked in that open space, it would be hard for anyone to imagine that this place is actually a town owned by an interstellar civilization.
Tina clutched the Tek sniper rifle tightly in her hand, her eyes looking around at the houses that looked like mud-brick buildings with a hint of disdain, and couldn't help but comment, "I originally thought that a place like the guild would be more high-end and classy."
At this moment, Jadin, who was standing at the entrance of the union, turned around and solemnly instructed, "Put on your cloaks properly; your armor is too conspicuous."
El shrugged nonchalantly, seemingly unconcerned about the potential danger.
After all, the presence of two young human children in this exotic alien world is already quite eye-catching.
Just then, a creaking sound was heard, and the union's slightly old door was slowly pushed open.
Without the slightest hesitation, Jadin strode confidently inside.
After exchanging a glance, El and Tina followed closely behind, filled with curiosity.
Upon entering the union, the two were immediately stunned by the sight before them—the hall was teeming with people, and all sorts of strange and wonderful aliens were busily moving about.
Such a bizarre and wonderful scene filled El and Tina with a sense of wonder.
Jia Ding walked straight toward a sofa not far away without looking to the side.
At that moment, a dark-skinned man was lounging lazily on the sofa.
As Jadin approached, the uniquely designed helmet he was wearing caught the attention of the Black man.
A look of surprise flashed in the black man's eyes, and he blurted out, "Ah, so fast."
Then, he eagerly asked, "So? Have you successfully captured them all?"
Jadin placed the four keys on the table, and the black man understood his meaning: "Very good, I'll have someone unload the goods right away."
He spoke a few words in a language the three of them couldn't understand to a bald alien, who nodded and walked outside.
The Black man took out a stack of metal coins and placed them on the table.
“These are Imperial currencies.” Jadin was clearly dissatisfied with these currencies.
"They are still usable."
“I don’t know if you’ve heard of it, but the empire no longer exists.” Jadin’s tone was tinged with dissatisfaction.
“This is all I have.” The black man naturally understood the Mandalorian’s discontent with the Empire.
Jadin placed his hand on the keys, about to take them back.
The Black man immediately grabbed the keys: "Stop pretending."
Seeing that Jadin still wasn't going to give up, the black man sighed: "Okay, I can pay you Moncalamali, but I can only pay half."
"The Bounty Hunter Guild still holds onto bounties?" El took a key. "Uncle, why don't you sell it to Tarasin or Kilsaja?"
“These are just bounty targets, people on bail.” Jadin didn’t think anyone would pay a high price for these bounty targets.
“Trust me, they’ll both pay a high price,” El told Jadin with a smile, while noting down the material composition of Imperial Coins and Monkaramari Coins. “They can pay the same amount.”
"Hey, this is the union's bounty target." The black man was a little confused.
“Then pay the full amount.” Jadin’s voice was calm, and his helmet concealed his entire expression, making him unfathomable to the black man.
"Okay, okay, you win." The black man had no choice but to take out a few blue Moncalamari coins to pay the remaining balance.
“Why not sell it to me?” Al took out more Moncalamali coins than the black man.
"Kid, there are rules in the guild." The black man was getting numb from Al's words.
“Here you go.” Jadin pushed the key to the black man and took the Moncalamari coins from the table.
"You've hooked up with a rich guy?" The black man glanced at the luxurious armor hidden under El's cloak.
“Just a mission,” Jadin replied, his thoughts unknown. “What about the other bounty targets?”
The black man took out a bag, which made Al feel that this place was even more backward.
One by one, the black men took out bounty tracking discs and placed them in front of Jadin: "Four are on bail, and one is a wanted smuggler."
“I’ll take them all.” Jadin got up to take them, but was blocked by the black man.
“There are other bounty hunters in the union, and this is all the bounty I have,” the black man explained, explaining why he stopped Jadin.
"What's the highest bounty you've set for your target?" Jadin asked.
"Not much, five thousand."
"This amount of money isn't even enough to cover gas these days."
Knowing that Jadin was dissatisfied, the black man sat up straight: "I still have another job."
“Let me see the bounty plate,” Jadin said seriously.
"No bounty plates, face-to-face dealings, direct hiring, and generous bounties."
"The black market?" Jadin thought of a possibility.
“All I know is that there’s no chain code.” The black man pulled a chip out of his clothes. “Are you going to answer it or not?”
The three left, and a bounty hunter placed his empty glass on the table. Just as he was about to pay, a strange feeling welled up in his heart when his fingers touched the bottom of his pocket—his pocket seemed a little emptier than usual!
He was startled and quickly reached into his pocket to search carefully, but no matter what he did, he couldn't find what should have been there.
Meanwhile, similar scenes were unfolding among many hunters in the guild's tavern.
Some hunters were rummaging through their backpacks with suspicious expressions, muttering curses under their breath; others stood there blankly, at a loss for what to do.
"What's all this mystery about?" El asked Jadin, who had just accepted the mission, with his hands behind his head.
Jading walked ahead, arrived at the target location, and knocked on the door.
After scanning the chip in his hand, a robot opened the door for him.
"Wow, remnants of the Empire." Aiel, who had some knowledge of the history of this universe, exclaimed as he looked at the few stormtroopers with their worn-out armor.
“Griff Calgary said you were coming,” the only elderly man sitting down said to Jadin.
"What else did he say?" Jadin walked up to the old man but did not sit down.
“He said you are the best in the last few light-years,” the old man replied without pausing.
Just then, a muffled sound suddenly came from the previously quiet room, followed by the sudden opening of one of the tightly closed doors without warning.
Jadin, who had been in a state of high tension, reacted instantly. Without hesitation, he quickly drew his sidearm from his waist and pointed the dark muzzle directly at the scholar who had just appeared at the door and the stormtroopers inside the room.
However, the stormtroopers reacted noticeably slower than Jadin, but after a brief moment of shock, they quickly recovered and raised their weapons, forming a standoff with Jadin.
El and Tina, who were standing to the side, were temporarily ignored by these fully armed people.
"Drop your weapons!" A stormtrooper, clearly confident that the situation was completely under his control, roared at Jadin, "Stop the futile resistance! Now it's four of us against one of you!"
Jading, however, showed no sign of fear. Instead, a slight, mocking smile played on his lips as he calmly replied, "Oh? Is that so? Well, that's not necessarily true..."
As he spoke, his gaze intentionally or unintentionally drifted to El and Tina beside him, who were being ignored by the other party.
Just then, El activated his gauntlets, and a dazzling blue psionic blade suddenly lit up, as bright and dazzling as lightning streaking across the night sky.
The stormtroopers were shocked to see this, realizing that the situation was far more complicated than they had imagined.
"Jedi Knights!" one of the stormtroopers cried out in terror.
Before he could finish speaking, El had already transformed into a streak of blue light, flashing four times in quick succession.
Each flash of light was accompanied by the crashing of a storm soldier to the ground. In an instant, all four menacing storm soldiers were rendered incapacitated and lay sprawled on the ground.
“No, that’s not a true Jedi Knight, but a powerful Force-sensitive individual.” The old man who had been observing coldly from the sidelines finally stood up shakily, narrowed his eyes and stared intently at the gradually extinguishing psionic blade in El’s hand, muttering to himself thoughtfully.
"Perhaps you intend to test our strength first," El said, hands on his hips, questioning the old man before him.
“You are absolutely capable of this job.” The old man took out an item wrapped in a handkerchief and handed it to Jadin.
Jadin took the handkerchief, opened it, and found a piece of metal sitting quietly inside: "Bescar Steel."
“This is a deposit. Once you complete the task, you’ll receive a whole barrel of Bescar Steel as a reward.” The old man wasn’t afraid that Jadin would refuse. “The Mandalorian Iron has returned to the Mandalorians. After a period of chaos, it’s a good thing that order has been restored. What do you think?”
