The Transmigrated Farm Girl's Journey to Wealth

Chapter 119 Song Shunzi's New Clothes

The village chief, who arrived with just one bundle, was taken back by Song Feng in his mule cart. Looking at the two large packages and one slightly smaller package in his hands, he was a little doubtful about life.

What exactly happened? He went to return the cotton, so why did he bring back so much stuff? So, he was actually trying to freeload?

"Honey, what are you doing standing at the door? Aren't you cold?"

It was cold, very cold. He just wanted to clear his head. Fengzi and his wife were talking back and forth, making him dizzy. Then, in a daze, he got on the mule cart, carrying his things. Fengzi had just told him to come to their house more often when he had time, and then he left.

"What's that in your hand?" Li recognized the package; it was the one containing cotton. "Why did you bring it back again? Didn't you say you were returning Fengzi? What else is it? Where did you go?"

"Old woman, let me have some peace and quiet."

Old Mrs. Li: ……

The village chief carried his things and slowly walked into the courtyard. His steps were unsteady, and he was already a little frozen after standing there for only a short while.

"What are these?"

“Oh, the clothes Shunzi will wear tomorrow, don’t get them dirty. They’re Song Feng’s. We’ll return them to him when Shunzi’s new clothes are finished. This…” The village chief’s Adam’s apple bobbed up and down, he was a little embarrassed to say it, “Xiao Ning packed some food for me. I don’t know what’s in it. She said it was for the child, so I just stuffed it in the car and brought it here.”

"So, you made a trip and didn't return anything, but brought back so much stuff?" The village chief's wife's mocking words were on the tip of her tongue, but she swallowed them back. Her husband looked somewhat dazed; she decided it was best not to provoke him further.

"Let me see what it is?"

Inside the bundle was a packet of maltose, a packet of hawthorn cake, and about two pounds of donkey rolls. They didn't recognize them, but Shunzi said they were donkey rolls, a good stuff sold to the snack shops in town.

"Mom, there's still meat here! This child! Can't you keep it for yourself?"

After looking at the meat and hearing his mother's words, Song Shunzi really wanted to say that Fengzi had bought half a carton a couple of days ago, but he couldn't. His father had instructed him that no matter what Song Fengzi sold or bought, he should pretend he hadn't seen it; he was just a deliveryman and couldn't say a word to anyone.

Remembering Song Feng's touching words that left everyone else confused, she said, "Hey, keep them. Give the snacks to the kids, and we'll stew the meat for tonight."

Old Mrs. Li looked at her husband in surprise. Given his personality, shouldn't he have said, "Don't touch anything. I'll return it to him in a bit?"

“Shunzi, take good care of your clothes. Mother, make his new cotton-padded jacket as soon as possible. Xiao Ning also brought over a set of gloves and a hat. Take a look at the style and make it like that.”

"Use new cotton?"

"Nonsense, no need, why would I take it back!" Fengzi said that they were family and there was no need to argue, so he would accept it this time.

The village chief's wife pursed her lips; something was wrong with the old man, very wrong.

Everyone in the family received a candy and a pastry, and Old Mrs. Li put the rest into a box.

"These candies can be stored and saved for the New Year. They're like snacks; one piece a day will last for several days."

"You can arrange it as you see fit. Aren't you going to make sticky rice cakes at home tonight? Shunzi, send a basketful to Fengzi tomorrow. I just went to his house, and the whole family was busy making the order; not a single one of them was free."

Li opened her mouth, she actually wanted to say that she could help without asking for money, but she couldn't say that. The other person's prescription was a secret, what would it look like if she went? Even if she meant well, the other person wouldn't think that way.

"Okay, we'll pack a lot and send them over."

A few days later, Song Shunzi, wearing his new cotton-padded jacket, trousers, and shoes, along with a Lei Feng hat and mask, felt very pleased with himself. Except for his eyes, he was completely covered up; the wind couldn't get in anymore!

"Be careful, this is the only outfit you'll wear all winter, and you won't be able to wash it for several months."

"Yes!" Shunzi replied perfunctorily. The black linen was dirty; who could see it?

"Mom, are we having sticky rice cakes again tonight?" He really loved them; they tasted so much better than hard cornbread.

"Eat, eat, all you ever think about is eating! This is meant to last all winter, not every day!" Li glared at him.

Song Shunzi shrank back. He was a father now, yet his parents still scolded him so fiercely. He had absolutely no authority in front of his child and wife.
