Chapter 18 Grandpa's Tailor Shop

Grandpa's tailor shop is nestled on a cozy corner of the old street in the small town, gently embraced by a ring of ancient houses. The cobblestone street, weathered by time, has become slightly mottled, and the old houses on both sides are arranged in a pleasing, staggered manner, with the marks of time quietly spreading on the mottled walls.

Although the storefront of the tailor shop is inconspicuous, the wooden signboard, weathered by wind and rain, has become increasingly dark in color, yet the words "Zhang Quan Tailor Shop" on it remain as eye-catching and gleaming as ever.

Upon entering the tailor shop, you are first greeted by a slightly old but still sturdy wooden door, which, like a silent guardian, quietly tells the story of the past.

On either side of the door, several potted green plants thrived, adding a touch of vitality and life to the slightly old-fashioned space.

As you gently push open the door, a clear and melodious bell rings out. It's a small copper bell hanging above the door singing merrily, as if warmly welcoming every customer who steps into this little haven.

Although the shop's interior space is not spacious, it is arranged in an orderly manner, with every detail revealing ingenuity.

On the left, against the wall, stands a huge wooden wardrobe with glass doors. Inside, various ready-made clothes are neatly hung, including exquisite cheongsams that showcase the gentleness and charm of Eastern women, as well as practical work clothes that reveal a simple and unpretentious spirit of pragmatism.

Next to the wardrobe was a long workbench, filled with all sorts of tailoring tools: scissors gleamed coldly under the light, while rulers lay quietly to the side, as if waiting to be given a new mission.

To the right is a row of shelves piled high with colorful fabrics: soft silks flow smoothly like water, sturdy cotton exudes a rustic charm, and colorful floral fabrics resemble paintings on a palette. Each fabric is carefully folded by Grandpa, making it easy to feel his appreciation and love for them.

Below the shelves are several drawers filled with various accessories, like small treasure troves waiting to be discovered and utilized.

In the corner of the shop, there is a small tea table and two chairs, which is a rest area that Grandpa has carefully prepared for customers.

While customers wait for alterations or custom orders, they can take a break here and enjoy a cup of fragrant tea brewed by Grandpa himself. On the coffee table, a teapot with exquisite patterns and several simple blue-and-white porcelain teacups complement each other, adding a touch of elegance and tranquility to this little haven.

Several old-fashioned chandeliers on the shop's ceiling cast a dim, warm light, making the entire shop cozy and peaceful. The walls were covered with various clothing design drawings and photos of customers, like marks of time, recording Grandpa's years of hard work and memories.

In an era before widespread technology, this remote town still maintained the tradition of hand-sewing. Grandpa's tailor shop, though small and unpretentious, was filled with the warmth of life and Grandpa's boundless love for his craft.

This place is not only a place for making clothes, but also a haven where Grandpa realizes his dreams and spreads warmth.

Grandma played an indispensable role in Grandpa's tailor shop. Although she didn't have the same superb skills in cutting and sewing as Grandpa, she was very good at attracting customers and handling accounts and collecting money.

She always greets people with a smile, warm and friendly, as if she has a special magic that can instantly shorten the distance between her and her customers.

Whenever a customer stopped to look around at the tailor shop, Grandma would quickly go up to them and greet them warmly with her friendly words:

"Come in and have a look! Our tailors are top-notch; they can make any kind of clothes!" Her voice was loud and clear, as comforting and pleasant as a spring breeze.

For new customers, Grandma would patiently ask about their needs and preferences, and listen carefully to their thoughts and expectations regarding clothing styles, colors, and fabrics.

She uses simple and easy-to-understand language to introduce the characteristics and advantages of the various fabrics in the store to customers, helping them make the most suitable choice.

"This silk fabric is so comfortable and elegant to wear. If it were used to make a cheongsam, it would be absolutely gorgeous!" Grandma's description was so vivid and engaging that customers could almost immediately imagine how beautiful they would look in their new clothes.

Grandma knew her regular customers intimately. She could clearly remember each customer's preferences and sizes, and would greet them warmly upon meeting them.

"Oh! Sister Zhang, you're here to have new clothes made again? I remember the dress you made last time fit perfectly! What kind would you like to have this time?"

This thoughtful service makes regular customers feel warm and welcome, and they are even more willing to patronize Grandpa's tailor shop.

In the process of attracting customers, Grandma was also good at observing customers' expressions and reactions. If a customer showed the slightest hesitation or uncertainty about a certain style or fabric, Grandma would immediately notice and offer some suggestions or discounts to facilitate the transaction.

"If you really like this fabric, how about I talk to Zhang Quan and get you a discount?" Grandma's words were always so thoughtful and considerate, making it impossible to refuse her kindness and enthusiasm.
