After overcoming numerous hardships and trials, they finally arrived in the mysterious and unfamiliar mountains of northwestern Hunan and began a new life.

Here, they worked hard, multiplied and thrived, gradually taking root in this land and building their own home.

Despite weathering many storms, the Zhang family has always maintained a spirit of perseverance and self-reliance, which has been passed down from generation to generation.

One day, Zhang Mogong accidentally discovered a desolate and remote valley with few people. When he stepped into this magical land, he was immediately shocked by the scene before him.

In this small basin surrounded by mountains, spider plants grow in abundance, their flowers blooming in vibrant colors and emitting a refreshing fragrance. White cranes occasionally soar by and perch here, adding a touch of ethereal beauty to the entire valley.

Zhang Mogong's heart stirred; he felt that this place had excellent feng shui and was an ideal place for a secluded life. After careful investigation and comparison, he finally selected a spot in the middle, with a tall chestnut tree behind and a towering osmanthus tree in front, as the perfect place to build his house.

Because he had brought a considerable amount of silver with him, Zhang Mogong hired skilled craftsmen from the surrounding villages to help with the construction. After half a year of hard work, a large courtyard capable of accommodating a hundred people was finally completed.

This residence boasts a beautiful environment and a layout that embodies the concept of harmony between man and nature. It features typical characteristics of Qing Dynasty residential courtyards and complements the surrounding natural landscape, resembling a fairyland on earth.

From then on, Zhang Mogong led his family to start a new life here. They cleared land and farmed, the men tilling the fields and the women weaving, living a self-sufficient, peaceful, and harmonious rural life. Although their lives were simple and unpretentious, they were filled with happiness and contentment.

Of course, for Zhang Mogong, opening a private school and teaching children to read and write was of paramount importance. He deeply understood the power of knowledge and hoped that through education, the next generation could better face the future and benefit society.

This way of life, which combines farming and scholarship, has been passed down through generations in the Zhang family and has become a fine tradition passed down through the ages.

Time flies, and more than a hundred years have passed in the blink of an eye. The Zhang family's descendants have multiplied rapidly, and the entire clan now has more than a hundred members.

When he was just a three-year-old child, he could recite the Three Character Classic and the Expanded Collection of Wise Sayings without missing a single word; by the age of seven, he had already read through the Four Books and Five Classics and other Confucian classics; at the age of twelve, he won first place in the provincial examination and became a Xiucai (a successful candidate in the county-level imperial examination); and at the age of eighteen, he passed the imperial examination in the capital and became a Jinshi (a successful candidate in the highest level of the imperial examination), thus embarking on his official career.

After Zhang Xiangsong took office, he carried out a large-scale renovation and expansion of the Zhang Family Compound. The compound is surrounded and protected by towering firewalls, with gray walls and blue tiles complementing each other. The overall structure is made of brick and wood, with wood as the main material, presenting a typical Jiangnan residential style.

On either side of the main gate of the compound stands a towering stake, its imposing presence conveying a sense of solemnity and authority. The interior of the compound is meticulously planned and laid out according to functions such as dining, living, entertainment, recreation, and scenic views, resulting in a remarkably refined and elegant structure.

In addition to more than fifty spacious and bright houses, the family also has a courtyard, workshops, gardens and other supporting facilities, which all demonstrate the family's prosperity and wealth.
