Chapter 434 Premature Birth

Without the disturbances of Song Jianping, Zhou Songmei, and others, Song Lingge enjoyed an exceptionally comfortable period of time. So comfortable, in fact, that it was somewhat boring.

It seems that a mundane life sometimes needs a little something extra.

But what she said came true. She had just talked to Zhang Xiuxiu on the phone during the day about being bored, and that evening she received an unexpected phone call.

"Hello, Lingge!" When Song Jianping's unfamiliar and aged voice came through the phone, it took Song Lingge a while to figure out who it was.

Although she had been searching for this person, upon suddenly hearing his voice, Song Lingge was at a loss for words.

"Lingge, are you listening?"

"Ok!"

"Could you...could you come to the hospital? Xiaomei...Zhou Songmei is about to give birth." Song Jianping's voice trembled noticeably.

"She's about to give birth?" Song Lingge was very surprised.

If I remember correctly, Zhou Songmei is at most seven or eight months old now.

"Yes, she didn't pay attention and fell down the stairs today. The doctor said she might go into premature labor. I'm a little panicked. Can you come?" Song Jianping asked.

How ridiculous! The father's child from his affair is about to be born, and he wants the child from his first wife to be present during the delivery.

Is there anything more bizarre than this?

"What? That's not a good idea!" Song Lingge seriously doubted Song Jianping's thought process; how could he make such a bizarre request?

But she really did want to go. After all, they're blood relatives!

Song Lingge had a strong desire to go, but it wasn't because she was worried about Song Jianping. She was just bored for so long, and besides, how could Zhou Songmei, whom she had been so vigilant about, suddenly go into premature labor? And it was caused by her falling down the stairs.

With such a shocking piece of gossip delivered right to our doorstep, it seems a bit unreasonable not to take advantage of it.

However, Song Lingge couldn't appear eager to go; even going to eat melons required Song Jianping's pleading.

“I know you’ve been holding a grudge, but I’m really panicking right now. I keep thinking about when you were born, your mother also had a premature birth…”

Song Jianping choked up a little: "I was on a business trip when your mother gave birth to you, and I didn't know she suffered so much."

Those are truly crocodile tears!

It's ironic that the current partner only reminisces about how hard her ex went when she was pregnant prematurely.

Is it more accurate to call it being sentimental or heartless?

"Okay, I'll be right over!"

Song Lingge glanced at her phone; it was 2 a.m.

She didn't want to disturb Qiao Nansheng, but the thought of his slightly red eyes last time made her unable to bear it. Luckily, tomorrow is Saturday, so she can catch up on her sleep.

After making an appointment with Qiao Nansheng, Song Lingge got up quietly, but was still discovered by the shallow-sleeping Lin Xiuzhi.

"Lingge, where are you going in the middle of the night?"

Song Lingge was about to go downstairs with her coat in her arms; no one would believe she wasn't going out.

"Song Jianping just called me and said his wife is about to give birth and he wants me to go check on her!"

Lin Xiuzhi immediately flew into a rage: "How dare he call you that? Is that something a father should say?"

Song Lingge raised her index finger and shushed, "Grandma, don't be angry, don't wake Grandpa. He's not my dad. I only agreed to go because I had some questions I wanted to clarify. Otherwise, I wouldn't have gone."

Looking at her determined eyes, and remembering that she hadn't called for her father again, Lin Xiuzhi knew that this girl had her own ideas.

"But it's so late..."

“I called Nansheng, and he came with me.”

"Since you've already made the arrangements, I won't say anything more. Be careful, and call me if anything happens."

"Okay, Grandma, go back to sleep! Don't worry, he's not worth us getting upset over," Song Lingge comforted, helping Lin Xiuzhi to the bedroom door.

Lin Xiuzhi nodded slightly and said nothing more.

After she returned to her room, Song Lingge tiptoed out of the house.

When she came out, Qiao Nansheng was already waiting for her outside.

"Which hospital?" Qiao Nansheng asked.

Song Lingge handed him her phone, which contained the address sent by Song Jianping.

"I'm sorry, you're the only one I can ask to keep me company," Song Lingge said apologetically.

It's so strange to think about having your boyfriend accompany you to your father's delivery and his mistress's place.

But it doesn't matter anymore. Qiao Nansheng should be used to it anyway. Their family just keeps having one mess after another.

"What are you saying? Do you want someone else to keep you company?" Qiao Nansheng said, feigning anger.

Although Song Lingge appeared outwardly calm and unaffected, he knew she was deeply distressed. No matter how indifferent she seemed, he was, after all, her father.

"Then you're wronging me. I already said that I can only contact you," Song Lingge retorted, nitpicking her words.

"I remember the last time I saw Zhou Songmei, she was only a few months old, right? She gave birth so quickly?"

Qiao Nansheng was indeed very surprised. Isn't it said that pregnancy lasts ten months? How come Zhou Songmei is pregnant so quickly?

"They said she fell and there's a possibility of premature birth," Song Lingge said calmly.

Actually, if Song Jianping hadn't reminisced about the past tonight, she wouldn't have known that she was also a premature baby, and Zhao Jueyu had never mentioned it to her.

However, she had experienced the pain of childbirth in her previous life and knew it was a hurdle for women. She had never mentioned to Fang Xingxing how hard it was to give birth to and raise her.

She understood Zhao Jueyu's thoughts; he didn't want her to be held hostage by filial piety.

Having children is about completing one's own life. Whether it's joy or hardship, it should be shared by the couple and there's no need to involve the child.

Song Jianping clearly didn't understand.

When Song Lingge and Qiao Nansheng arrived at the hospital, Song Jianping was asleep in a chair, already snoring. Fortunately, there were hardly any people around at that time.

Song Lingge stepped forward and patted him awake. Song Jianping was startled awake from his sleep, but relaxed when he saw who it was.

"Nansheng is here too?"

“Yes, it’s so late, I’m worried about Lingge coming alone!” Qiao Nansheng replied.

An embarrassed expression finally appeared on Song Jianping's face.

He only wanted Song Lingge to come over, without considering how dangerous it was to send a girl out at this time.

"How long have you been inside?" Song Lingge asked.

She wasn't trying to help Song Jianping out of a predicament; rather, for someone who had no heart, or more accurately, whose heart wasn't with his mother and daughter, or with their family, to still place emotional dependence on him was an insult to his feelings.

Song Lingge had long since given up hope.

Song Jianping, however, did not think so. He seemed to see a glimmer of hope, that perhaps he could have both his own family and his eldest daughter.

"It's been almost two hours."

Then no one spoke; everyone was lost in their own thoughts.

Song Lingge and Qiao Nansheng sat next to each other, about two or three empty seats plus an aisle away from Song Jianping.

Song Jianping wandered around aimlessly, neither sitting nor standing, until finally he sat down next to Song Lingge.

He glanced at Qiao Nansheng as if he wanted to say something but hesitated. Qiao Nansheng guessed that the father and daughter had something to say, so he said, "I'll go see if there are any convenience stores open and buy some water."

"Okay, I'll trouble you then."

Before Song Lingge could speak, Song Jianping gave her no chance to refuse and immediately replied.
