Train Survival: You're really trying to survive!
Chapter 424 Departure
Sophia and the others went to deal with the monster corpses, while Su Li went into the car to check the damage inside.
Fortunately, the mutated swordfish attacked not the energy room, but the central command center, so the damage was not too great.
Su Li came to the gap and touched it with her hand.
The mutated swordfish's long snout was very thin, and although it pierced through the train, it did not cause much damage.
When the train is upgraded to level 5, it gains the ability to heal itself. Such a small wound can be completely healed in just 2 hours.
“But this can’t go on like this.” Su Li stood beside the gap with a headache. “Some parts of this journey are underwater. If we encounter these swordfish then, the water pressure will be like that of hyenas, tearing through the train’s defenses without mercy after the train is pierced.”
If the train takes on water and stops at the bottom of the sea, Su Li and his team will be in trouble. Just thinking about the amount of work involved in draining the water afterwards gives Su Li a headache.
Ivan, who was standing nearby, interjected, "Can't I just use wide-area defense?"
"Your wide-area defense might not be able to withstand it."
This mutated swordfish has focused all its skills on armor penetration, making it a perfect match for Ivan's wide-area defense. In addition, the strength of the wide-area defense has been reduced to expand the defensive range, so it will probably break with a single puncture.
“It doesn’t matter if I can’t withstand it, I don’t need to defend against the mutated swordfish’s attack.” Ivan smiled confidently. “Brother-in-law, imagine the swordfish charging at my shield, piercing it with its long snout, and then the whole fish is stuck with its snout inside while its body is still stuck outside the shield.”
Su Li imagined it for a moment, and sighed, "This really is a solution. If we can't stop your armor-piercing charge, then we'll just trap you."
"This must be technically very difficult, can you do it?"
Ivan patted his chest. "Don't worry, I just need to adjust the resilience of the energy shield. Unfortunately, this method can only deal with things that are severely unbalanced."
A normal silver-level armor-piercing user would possess both the means to pierce armor and the strength to tear through shields once the armor is breached.
Su Li patted Ivan on the shoulder with satisfaction. "Alright, then it's up to you."
Neither Zuli nor Ivan mentioned the duty roster. Since this task was assigned to Ivan, and these mutated swordfish only appear at night, it meant that Ivan would have to be on duty every night.
For superhumans, going without sleep for days is no problem. But in Su Li's heart, she still regarded Ivan as a younger brother. Making Ivan work such a shift made Su Li feel a little sorry for him.
On my end, we could also consider developing tools to deal with these mutated swordfish... perhaps we could try using bait?
Su Li sat on the sofa, took out a notebook and began to write and draw.
A short while later, Sophia finished her work as well. Su Li looked up and saw Sophia's happy expression, and couldn't help but ask, "How was the harvest?"
"The armor-piercing ability of the sniper rifle has improved a lot. Now, the bullets fired by the sniper rifle have their own armor-piercing power." Sophia's eyes were filled with undisguised joy. "Moreover, this armor-piercing power is all-encompassing. It can penetrate not only energy and armor, but also mental defenses. I wish there were more of these special mutated swordfish."
"If you bring in too much, it'll become a translucent garment," Su Li joked.
"No, I can adjust the armor-piercing power. After all, it's my magic spear, and all the enhancements are under my control."
Sofia happily sat down next to Zuli and crossed her legs with a cheerful smile.
"Where is Sister Mingyu?" Su Li asked.
"Sister Mingyu has gone to experiment with the newly acquired life factors."
"Then let's drive."
Su Li unfolded the map and pointed in one direction, "Our goal is this route."
Zuli drew a line on the map, "Go to more large islands and collect some ores."
He drew a circle on the first medium-sized island. "This island is 200 kilometers away from us. From the satellite image, there are a lot of exposed rocks on this island. We should be able to find some minerals."
With the destination identified, the train finally started moving.
The train tracks in this world float on the sea. The default track layout of this system can be supported as long as there is a support within a 50-kilometer range.
This world has many floating islands, so there's no shortage of places to land. Su Li's current worry is that some major event might cause a large number of floating islands to sink to the bottom of the sea, at which point they too would sink.
The steel train sped across the moonlit sea, its tracks hugging the surface, pushing aside the surging, viscous waves. Zurich stood at the front, gazing through the reinforced glass window at the fluorescent sea.
"Brother-in-law, the radar shows signs of large biological activity three kilometers ahead." Ivan's voice came from the side, interrupting Su Li's thoughts.
Their radar hasn't been equipped with a life-sensing plugin yet. However, enormous life forms can be detected on the radar even without the plugin.
Su Li looked at the image transmitted by the radar; the monster looked like a spindle shape.
"All on alert."
Zurich immediately issued a warning to all members.
The searchlights on the train's roof simultaneously illuminated the sea ahead, turning it as bright as day. Beneath the surface, a massive black shadow was rapidly approaching. Zuli narrowed his eyes; judging from the shadow's reflection on the water, its torso was at least the length of two train carriages. Including its tentacles, it was already over a hundred meters long.
“Brother-in-law, judging from its size, this should be some kind of giant octopus,” Ivan reported his discovery.
"Those heading our way, stop your car! You're going too fast, or you'll be easily driven off course!"
Ivan pulled the brakes, the train brakes locked, and the wheels and rails rubbed violently together. The high temperature evaporated the somewhat viscous seawater into a light blue mist, and the entire train came to a stop in this light mist.
"coming!"
Before the words were even finished, the sea suddenly exploded, and six tentacles as thick as tree trunks burst forth from the water. Each tentacle was covered with suction cups the size of basketballs and sharp barbs. One of the tentacles slammed into the front of the train, causing the entire train to shake violently.
The team members remained as steady as Mount Tai amidst the violent shaking.
"I'm going first!" Sun Lili said, then teleported to the side of the tentacles.
She immediately unleashed a magical planetary ring attack, her sharp force field axe sweeping out a blood-red circle, severing a massive tentacle that fell into the water.
The giant octopus let out a piercing scream, and more tentacles emerged from the sea, wrapping around the middle of the train. At the same time, several tentacles charged directly at Sun Lili.
"What incredible strength!" Sun Lili withstood the octopus's attack to protect the train. "But it's still not enough!"
Sun Lili placed her feet on the space, using her spatial power to create a platform for herself to exert her strength.
Then she wrapped her arms around the giant octopus, strained, and held her breath, shouting, "Get up!"
Suddenly, a huge bulge appeared on the surface of the sea, and then Sun Lili forcefully pulled an orange-red octopus out of the water and threw it into the sky.
Sofia raised the Dream, aimed it at the air, and pulled the trigger.
In an instant, a bullet pierced the octopus's brain between its eyes, and then its body visibly changed from orange-red to pale white.
