Huh? There's a magic school here.

Chapter 45 Transformation Lesson (Continued)

"In addition, these key points have a name in the magical world: the Gump Transformation Law. The Gump Transformation Law is the fundamental law of transformation in the magical world. Specifically, it means that wizards can transform objects or create things. The duration of the Transformation Charm depends on the caster's concentration, the strength of their magic power, and the size and shape of the object being transformed."

If the transformed object is larger, the duration will be shorter; conversely, if the transformed object is smaller, the duration may be longer. For example, transforming into invertebrates is less challenging, while transforming into vertebrates is much more difficult. Of course, transformation spells can also be used for partial or localized transformations.

Let me take the first point as an example. We can't conjure food. It's not that we wizards can't conjure food, but it's very dangerous. If someone accidentally eats food conjured by a transmutation spell, and the object reverts to a large size after the magic wears off, that person could easily die from overeating.

Furthermore, the food created by the Transformation Charm has no nutritional value whatsoever; it's not real food, you know? It just looks the same.

Secondly, the objects created through transformation are not life in the full sense. This is easy to understand. Like food, the life forms you create only appear to have some characteristics of that creature. In reality, they lack a soul and are more like puppets or dolls.

Some might ask if they could use Transfiguration to create Galleons, but unfortunately, this method is not feasible. Galleons are essentially gold; they are made by casting coins and then having fairies cast a special mark on them. Human wizards cannot do this.

And they wouldn't stoop to doing that. In the Muggle world, however, people often fall for these little tricks, which is why they claim to have received coins from the dead or ghosts.

Of course, other magical items won't work either, because alchemical items primarily achieve the flow of magic through runes, while items conjured by wizards only imbue them with certain abilities; once the magic is used up, it's gone, and the natural flow of magic is impossible. That's the third point!

Fourthly, wizards cannot conjure unknown objects. This is because wizards need to concentrate and visualize the object they want to create when they try to transform. It is very difficult to do this if you have never seen something before, and therefore the spell will fail.

The fifth point is also easy to understand: changing the quantity. You can't make one object into multiple objects, but you can make one object transform into different things through local deformation. However, there is a drawback to this: the things that are locally transformed are all aggregated together because they are essentially the same object.

Some people might ask why spells like "Clear Spring" and "Blazing Flame" can't be quantified in terms of the things they conjure, but these are actually different. "Clear Spring" and "Blazing Flame" don't fundamentally belong to Transfiguration; they fall under the category of Charms.

You also need to distinguish between polymorphism and curses. I'm sure many of you have read fairy tales as children, and the most common story involves a wizard turning a prince into a frog. However, you'll notice that they were turned into frogs for a very long time, and the spell was broken not because their magic power was insufficient, but through external force or other means. This type of magic is essentially a curse, not polymorphism.

Next, we'll talk about the most unique type of Transfiguration Charm called the Animagus. An Animagus is a wizard who can transform into a certain animal while retaining their magical abilities. There's also a branch of the Animagus called the Disguise Magus, which we'll discuss later.

What you can learn in advance is that Disguise Magus is innate, while Animagus can be cultivated through effort. However, there are limitations; the animal you transform into is not arbitrary but determined by your weight and personality traits.

In other words, you can only transform into one type of animal, and that animal is usually limited to non-magical creatures.

Therefore, transforming oneself into a fire dragon or phoenix is impossible, although it's not absolute but carries a great risk. This is because the magic of wizards and the magic of magical creatures are fundamentally different in principle.

Of course, as you saw when I transformed, the Animagus change forms along with their clothes, which saves a lot of trouble and awkwardness. You need to be extra careful when learning to be an Animagus, because it's easy to fail if you don't do any part of the process correctly.

Furthermore, some wizards use Animagus for illegal activities, so the Ministry of Magic is very strict about this, requiring them to register their animal form and characteristics with the Ministry's Office for the Misuse of Magic. I am one of the seven registered Animagus users in the 20th century because I believe that learning Animagus has great research value for human transfiguration.

However, you must understand that the requirements to become an Animagus are extremely stringent, and the entire process can take months or even years. Making a mistake at any step will undo all your previous efforts. Therefore, it can sometimes take several years to succeed. Because the chances of failure are so high, becoming an Animagus requires immense courage and perseverance. This is also why the Animagus population is so small.

Alright, our class time is almost up. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. The assignment for this class is to write a ten-inch-long reflection on deformation theory.

"

“Professor, what do I need to prepare if I want to become an Animagus?” Diane asked.

"Miss Diane Bryan, as I said, this will be a long process. But one thing is certain: a lot of magic is needed to support the success of the first transformation. Once the first transformation is successful, subsequent transformations won't require as much magic. As for what you need to prepare, you can come to me privately after class to ask. I won't go into details in class, as I'm afraid some young wizards might act on their own and cause terrible consequences. By the way, I want to remind everyone that no matter where you learn Animagus from in the future, you will need someone to accompany you on your first transformation. This is because I'm afraid you might be affected after the transformation and forget what you look like and be unable to transform back. Don't laugh, these things have happened before."

The long lesson was very meaningful. Even Andres, hiding in the corner, realized the vast difference between having a renowned teacher and learning on his own. He had already finished reading the entire "Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration," but since his level was already at level three, the book only increased his level by three percent. He guessed it was the deepening understanding of many Transfiguration Charms that resulted in this increase.

However, after listening to Professor McGonagall's explanation of the Transfiguration course, his Transfiguration level increased by five percent, which was much better than if he had studied it on his own.

After watching the students leave after class, Andres appeared, greeted Professor McGonagall, and then left.
