Chapter 404 A Letter from Two Years Ago
After the grand assembly ended, Samuro didn't care who would lead the ten subsequent troops; he only cared about his own affairs.
Samuro and the priest arrived at the temple together, and on their way back, the priest had already sent people to gather the mountain and forest groups. To accommodate his old friend, the priest even arranged for some reserve and trainees to join both groups, bringing the total number of people in both groups to over a thousand. This was equivalent to the size of a large brigade.
Samuro naturally accepted his friend's kindness; some people's kindness is not to be refused, especially that of friends. In the days that followed, Samuro waited for the Darkblade forces to assemble while also awaiting the arrival of the wyverns.
A few days later, enormous figures began to appear in the sky above the capital of the Orc Empire. At first, the residents of the capital were curious about what was in the sky. But as time went on and the wyverns appeared more and more frequently, they gradually got used to it. When someone looked at the wyverns in the sky with amazement, they were treated as a country bumpkin from out of town.
Because of these incidents, outsiders have often fought with the natives of the capital, which has caused some problems for the capital's security.
On a moonlit night with few stars, Samuro bid farewell to the priests who had come to see him off and departed with his men for Ontario. There, he would receive his army of 200,000 orc slaves, and with these troops, he could besiege the otherworldly humans in the Dawn Forest.
Inside a car wash in the capital of the British Empire, on Blue Star.
"Roger, hurry up! We can go home after we finish washing this car!"
"Daniel, what's the rush to leave work today?"
"Roger, I recently met a girl with a great body at a nightclub! She promised to go to the movies with me tonight!"
"Alright then, have a great evening!"
"Thank you. If she has any sisters, I'll introduce them to you as soon as possible!"
After they finished speaking, the two sped up their car washing, finishing their day's work in ten minutes. Roger was an ordinary working-class British man who, like most ordinary British people, received what was called a "happy education." While in school, aside from not doing anything that would land him in jail, he did every other kind of bad thing he was capable of.
After graduating from high school, Roger was sent to the army by his parents, where he served in the Royal Navy for six years. His life would have been the same as everyone else's: finding a job to support his family, marrying a decent girl, and having children.
He discovered that things weren't as he'd hoped; for example, his educational background prevented him from finding a decent job. Ultimately, with the help of a comrade, he found his current, albeit less-than-respectable, job.
For example, his father passed away in an accident six months ago, so he now has to move back home to take care of his mother. This inevitably limits him from finding a job far from home, but his heart has already become wild under the influence of the army. He has long been dissatisfied with his poor and boring situation, and today the opportunity to change his fate has arrived.
Just as he was having lunch, he received a call from his comrade-in-arms requesting a conscription. The matter was simple: the Europa region needed a large number of experienced soldiers to establish an outpost on the continent of Karen. However, the government was concerned that sending active-duty soldiers would cause discontent among some of the public, so they needed to recruit a large number of mercenaries.
Roger's comrade-in-arms had connections and could recommend people for military service. Because Roger had helped him before, and he knew that Roger's current situation was not ideal, he called Roger at noon to tell him the news.
Roger was very excited when he received the call, as it was a rare opportunity for him. Not only was he capable of the job, but the salary was also very high. The only problem was that he needed to travel to the continent of Karen to leave Earth, so he didn't immediately agree to his comrade's offer, but said he needed to think about it.
His comrades didn't say anything; after all, it was only natural. They were soldiers going to the continent of Karen, and no one could guarantee what they would encounter. It was normal to need to consider things carefully.
Roger drove home, where his elderly mother had already prepared dinner and was waiting for him. As Roger entered the house, his mother came forward and took his coat from his hands.
"Son, how was work today? Did it go well?"
"I'm a good mom!"
The mother and son smiled at each other, and without saying much, went to the kitchen to eat.
Roger usually tries to cheer his mother up by sharing happy stories from work, but today he seemed preoccupied because of his comrade-in-arms. Mainly, he didn't know how to bring it up with his mother, and his mother, sitting opposite him, noticed that something was off with her son.
"Roger, what's wrong with you today? Is something the matter?"
"Waaah, I'm fine!"
Roger ate his food while mumbling vague replies to his mother, who simply watched her child quietly without saying anything more.
Roger didn't make up his mind until he finished eating, looked up, and saw his mother's eyes.
"Mom, there's something I want to tell you!"
"Oh?"
"That's right, I received a call from my comrade-in-arms at noon. He introduced me to a job with an annual salary of two hundred thousand pounds!"
"Oh? That's a good thing! Is there some difficulty?"
"Yeah, it'll be quite far from home!"
"What's the big deal? I'll take good care of myself! Besides, does working mean we don't get a break?"
"Mom, I need to go to another world!"
"What do you think?"
Roger was surprised by his mother's attitude. He had expected her to refuse outright, but she was surprisingly calm.
"You come with me!"
Confused, Roger was taken to the basement by his mother, who rummaged through a worn-out wardrobe for a while and pulled out a box. Inside the box was an opened letter, and Roger seemed to see a familiar badge on the envelope.
Roger took the letter from his mother. It read, "Dear Mr. Roger Catearns, we are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry..." The date at the end was July 1st, twenty years prior.
Roger's mind was blank; he stared blankly at the letter in his hand, as if he had completely lost consciousness. It was only his mother's sigh that finally woke him from his sleepwalking state. Roger didn't speak after that, just quietly looked at his mother, waiting for her explanation.
“I’m so sorry, child. When we received the letter, we thought it was a prank and didn’t take it seriously. Although they sent someone over to explain, your father still refused to believe it was real. So your father chased them away! I hope you don’t resent him!”
