Huh? There's a magic school here.
Chapter 151 Producing Potions Using Muggle Methods
“I understand your concerns, Severus! But there’s no need to worry about that; I plan to implement standardized production!”
"Production? Standardization?"
“Yes, Severus! Standardizing production—in fact, I’ve been thinking about this for a while now. You know, Muggles have greatly increased productivity through standardized production, and if they can do it, so can we!”
“But Headmaster Andres, how is that possible! How can Muggle things be used in potion making? That’s completely impossible!”
Professor Severus Snape rejected Andres's proposal with an incredulous look on his face.
"Nothing is impossible, Severus! We often say that magic is meant to provide wizards with better living conditions, but why can't we use Muggle methods to improve the living standards of wizards? You know, once we can standardize the production of potions, we can manufacture large quantities of cheap potions for everyone!"
Not only potions, I even believe that the creation of alchemical items can be done using this model.
Severus Snape understood that Headmaster Andres was right; mass production of potions would indeed make them cheaper. However, this still made him, as a Potions Master, uncomfortable. If all magical potions were made by Muggles, what was the point of having a Potions Master like him? This made him very resentful.
"But how can we guarantee that the potions produced this way will be effective?"
"That's where we need you, Severus. We need large quantities of cheap and effective potions. Therefore, we need your help to create a standardized production process."
"But I don't know any standardized production processes!"
"It's alright, because I specially invited Miss Catherine here today. She can help you with this, right, Catherine?"
Sitting at the back, Catherine nodded frantically upon hearing this. Then, the thought that she had felt a few days ago about beauty treatments becoming increasingly expensive suddenly popped into her mind, and she asked a question as if possessed.
"Professor Snape, are there any magical potions that can be used for beauty purposes? Beauty treatments are getting more and more expensive in the Muggle world these days!"
Upon hearing Catherine mention beauty, Snape's face darkened. However, Andres, standing nearby, suddenly understood. "Yes, I can make money with potions!" he exclaimed, "and expand my influence in the Muggle world!" So, before Snape could speak, Andres chimed in.
“Catherine, your idea is brilliant. After you go back today, start preparing to set up a pharmaceutical company. To make the whole thing more convincing, you'll also need to assemble several potion research and development teams. We'll poach people with high salaries to develop these products, and then sell the magic potions here as new products developed by our research and development teams.”
"But boss, I need Professor Snape to provide a list of potions before I can start preparing the appropriate team. I don't even know what potions we have!"
"That's not a problem. We can have lunch together after the meeting and then discuss this matter."
Professor Snape had no choice but to agree, since Principal Andres had already agreed. So he nodded in agreement.
Seeing that Professor Snape had no objections, Andres brought up the first matter. The professors knew that building the hotel was also for the benefit of Hogwarts, so no one had any objections. They only raised questions about how to build it, what it should look like, and how to manage it.
Andres suggested that Catherine provide the building materials. As for how to construct it, that would be up to the professors; Andres wanted them to guide the students in building the hotel while they studied magic. This suggestion was somewhat unexpected, and the professors were hesitant to believe it.
Andres explained.
"First, to maintain secrecy, we can't use Muggle construction teams. Second, this is also an opportunity for students to practice spellcasting. And since it was built by the students themselves, it can also increase their positive feelings towards Hogwarts."
Seeing Andres's resolute attitude, everyone whispered among themselves, and then Professor McGonagall raised a question.
“President Andres, it’s fine for professors to lead the construction of the hotel, but what about the design? What kind of design do you envision for the hotel? We don’t know those things.”
“That’s alright, I’ll have Catherine publicly solicit design proposals. Catherine will provide both the design proposals and the raw materials.”
"Alright, Principal Andres. We agree with you. By the way, Principal Andres, you mentioned large-scale herb cultivation and the establishment of a potion raw material base. Where do you plan to build these?"
"Yes, that's exactly what I wanted to discuss with you. I'd like to build it in a remote, sparsely populated area to reduce the risk of exposure, and ideally, it should be easily under our control. So, do you have any good suggestions?"
"We need a large area of wasteland!"
"And it has to be remote; there should be many places like that."
"And it needs to be easy to control?"
The professors present discussed the matter for a while before finally offering their suggestions.
"How about finding a deserted island? There are many such islands in the South Pacific and the Caribbean."
"No, no! That's too far, and it's easily affected by typhoons. How about Russia? Russia's interior is vast and sparsely populated!"
"Is Russia not a good fit either? The winters there are too cold! Heating is a real problem! And the winters are too long, which affects plant growth."
"Is it really a problem for a wizard to keep warm?"
"The wizards have no problem keeping warm, but what about the plants? What will happen to all those plants? How can you grow anything if the land is frozen?"
"Let me think about it again!"
Just as everyone was discussing it, a voice asked.
"Is there magic that can alter the composition of soil?"
"Catherine, say whatever you want to say!"
"What I mean is, if islands aren't an option, let's choose land. If cold places aren't an option, let's choose places that are warm year-round. If there were magic that could change the local growing environment, I think Africa and the Middle East would be very suitable."
Andres' eyes lit up after hearing this, and he gestured for Catherine to continue.
"These two regions have been impoverished for years, so land there is not valuable. You can buy a large plot of land for a small sum of money, but the problem is that desertification is quite severe in North Africa and the Middle East. The Middle East may be better, but it is still mostly hilly. Central and Southern Africa, on the other hand, have vast grasslands and rainforests, and there is a lot of wildlife, making them great places."
"Hmm, Catherine's suggestion is good. Professor Sprout, what do you say?"
“I think Miss Catherine’s suggestion is good! But I think we can choose the desert and hilly areas of North Africa or the Middle East. The environment there is harsh and they are basically no-man’s land, which will help us hide. Moreover, the temperature in these two places is moderate. It just requires us to put in some effort to establish a planting base!”
"Understood. I'll have Catherine go back and look up the details after the meeting."
