Rebirth in Another World: The Ultimate Legend
Chapter 265 The Old Temple in the Valley
Thick fog permeated the valley, its wisps enveloping everything, as if dragging the entire world into endless chaos. A chilling, damp atmosphere, like a ghost, assaulted every inch of skin, causing one to shiver involuntarily. The man in black robes, like a black phantom, steadily traversed the fog-shrouded path ahead. His steps were firm and resolute, without the slightest hesitation or pause. His wide black robes fluttered in the wind, as if whispering to the eerie environment.
Lin Yu and Su Yao followed closely behind, each step taken with extreme caution, as if the ground beneath their feet might crack open at any moment and swallow them whole. Their eyes scanned their surroundings warily, their ears perked up like those of keen hunting dogs, not missing a single subtle sound. Lin Yu moved with agility, his right hand always resting on the hilt of his sword. The intricate carvings on the hilt pressed against his palm, yet they brought him a sense of security. Su Yao, on the other hand, gripped her staff tightly. The gem at the tip of the staff emitted a faint blue light, like the morning star in the night, illuminating the small patch of ground beneath her feet.
Suddenly, a gust of wind, carrying a biting chill, howled past like an angry beast roaring, dispersing part of the thick fog. Where the wind passed, an ancient and weathered temple emerged, appearing and disappearing like a giant who had slept for millennia, lying quietly deep in the valley, exuding an aura of mystery and majesty. The temple walls were mottled and worn, the marks of time crawling across them like spiderwebs; though the eaves and brackets were incomplete, they still allowed one to imagine its former grandeur.
The man in black robes stopped, his face, shrouded in shadow, slightly raised as he looked towards the temple. His voice was low and hoarse as he said, "Perhaps this holds the secret to combating evil forces." Though his words were soft, they struck Lin Yu and Su Yao's hearts like a hammer blow, stirring up ripples in their souls.
Lin Yu took a deep breath and walked forward steadily, like a warrior about to enter a mysterious temple. He reached out and gently pushed open the heavy, decaying door of the temple. The hinges creaked and groaned, the sound echoing through the silent valley like an ancient curse. The interior was dark, and a thick, stale air rushed in, carrying a musty, decaying odor, as if an ancient tomb sealed for millennia had been suddenly opened.
Seeing this, Su Yao quickly gripped her staff, chanting incantations. With each incantation, the blue light at the tip of the staff intensified, transforming into a bright beam that illuminated the path ahead. Inside the temple, dust swirled, thick layers of grime falling like fine snowflakes, cobwebs crisscrossing the walls, as if draping the temple in an eerie veil. Strange runes were carved on the walls, their lines fluid yet mysterious, seemingly from another world, shimmering faintly in the blue light.
"These runes seem to contain some kind of power." Lin Yu narrowed his eyes slightly, carefully examining the runes, his face showing a mixture of solemnity and curiosity, and said softly.
Just as they were intently observing the runes, a deep roar came from the depths of the temple, as if an ancient beast had awakened from its slumber. The sound made the temple walls tremble, and dust fell and filled the air.
"Watch out!" Lin Yu reacted quickly, shouting as he darted forward to Su Yao, shielding her behind him. He held his long sword horizontally, its blade gleaming coldly, reflecting the unwavering determination on his face.
In an instant, a gigantic monster burst forth from the darkness like a phantom. Its body was the size of an ox, its massive frame towering over two people, its muscles taut like solid rocks. But what was most terrifying were its sharp fangs, which gleamed with a chilling light in the dim light, seemingly capable of tearing anything apart; its razor-sharp claws were like five sharp daggers, slicing and groaning as they cut across the ground.
Undeterred, Lin Yu swung his sword to meet the monster. His agile movements sent dust billowing from his feet, creating small dust storms. Each strike carried immense force, the sword wind whistling as it aimed fiercely at the monster's vital points. Su Yao, meanwhile, assisted him with magic. She closed her eyes, concentrated, and chanted incantations. As she recited the spell, beams of light shot from her staff, transforming into ropes that bound the monster's limbs or ice spikes that pierced its eyes, hindering its movements.
However, the monster had thick hide and tough flesh, and Lin Yu's attacks were like hitting a hard rock, only leaving shallow scratches on its skin and causing very limited damage.
"This won't do. We have to find its weakness," Su Yao shouted anxiously, her voice trembling slightly and her eyes filled with worry.
While dealing with the monster, Lin Yu kept his eyes wide open, carefully observing its movements. In one moment when the monster leaped high into the air, attempting to pounce on him with its claws, he keenly noticed a lighter-colored area on the monster's belly, where the fur was slightly sparser than on other parts of its body.
"Su Yao, attack its abdomen!" Lin Yu shouted excitedly, his voice deafening, filled with the joy of discovering hope.
Upon hearing this, Su Yao immediately concentrated her magic power, and the speed of her incantation suddenly increased. The gem at the top of her staff shone brightly, and a powerful beam of magic shot towards the monster's abdomen like lightning.
The monster roared in agony, its voice echoing throughout the temple and the valley. Its massive body swayed a few times before crashing to the ground. After struggling for a moment, it lay still.
Just when they thought the crisis was over, more disturbances arose within the temple. A rustling sound came from a dark corner, as if countless hidden creatures were stirring restlessly; the runes on the walls seemed disturbed as well, their light flickering more frequently, as if conveying some ominous signal. Lin Yu and Su Yao exchanged a glance, gripping their weapons tightly once more. They knew that this battle against the unknown was far from over.
