Rebirth in Another World: The Ultimate Legend
Chapter 262 Fierce Battle in the Old House (Part 1)
Night, thick as ink, enveloped the abandoned old house, the only sound the howling of the cold wind whistling through the crumbling walls. Suddenly, a piercing, ear-piercing scream shattered the silence, echoing endlessly through the empty house. Then, as if brought to life, the surrounding darkness began to surge, and a horde of grotesque monsters, radiating an eerie aura, swarmed out of the shadows, instantly surrounding Lin Yu and Su Yao.
These monsters were hunched over, shrouded in a faint black mist, obscuring their faces. Only pairs of blood-red eyes gleamed with a bloodthirsty light in the darkness. Lin Yu flashed forward, swiftly shielding Su Yao behind him. He held his longsword horizontally, its blade gleaming coldly, reflecting on his incredibly solemn face. "Damn it, there are still so many!" he cursed under his breath, large beads of sweat rolling down his forehead, dripping from his resolute jawline onto the dusty ground, stirring up fine dust.
Su Yao bit her lower lip tightly, her pearly teeth almost breaking her pink lips. She gripped the faintly glowing staff with both hands; the gem at its tip shimmered with a mysterious halo in the darkness, seemingly resisting the surrounding evil forces. "Lin Yu, don't be afraid, we'll break out together!" Her voice trembled slightly, yet it held an undeniable firmness. That resolute tone was like a warm current, dispelling the chill in Lin Yu's heart. He nodded emphatically, replying, "Okay, we'll fight side by side!"
The two quickly adjusted their positions, back to back, like an unyielding island, stubbornly resisting the horde of monsters. Lin Yu's sword, illuminated by the moonlight, gleamed with a chilling light; each swing seemed to carry immense force, the wind whistling as it fiercely repelled approaching monsters. His agile movements, shifting and dodging, kicked up dust clouds, creating small "dust storms." Su Yao, her eyes tightly closed, concentrated, chanting incantations. As the spell was recited, her staff shone brightly, its dazzling light like shooting stars streaking across the night sky, illuminating dark corners. Wherever the light touched, the monsters roared in pain, suffering considerable damage.
However, the monsters seemed to be controlled by some evil force, utterly tireless. One wave fell, and another surged forward relentlessly, their surging attacks like an endless tide. Lin Yu and Su Yao's stamina was gradually exhausted in this intense battle. Their breathing became rapid and heavy, their clothes soaked with sweat and clinging to their bodies. They bore numerous wounds; several bloody gashes on Lin Yu's arms were gruesome, blood slowly dripping down and staining the hilt of his sword; Su Yao's skirt was torn, and a scrape on her calf bled. Yet, neither of them showed the slightest sign of retreat.
"This can't go on! We need to find their weakness!" Lin Yu roared during a lull in the fighting, his voice hoarse but still deafening. Su Yao, while casting spells, endured her injuries, her eyes wide as she carefully observed the monsters' every move. Suddenly, in the instant a magical light flashed, she keenly noticed a detail: under the intense light, the monsters' eyes would momentarily lose focus, and their previously frenzied movements would freeze.
"Lin Yu, attack their eyes!" Su Yao shouted excitedly, her voice filled with the joy of finding hope. Hearing this, Lin Yu immediately changed tactics. His movements were lightning-fast, his sword moving with him, specifically targeting the monsters' eyes. With a flick of his wrist, his longsword precisely pierced the monster's eye. Each hit slowed the monster's movements, causing it to writhe in agony on the ground. Seeing this, Lin Yu and Su Yao's morale soared, and they launched a combined attack. One monster after another, with their coordinated efforts, crashed to the ground.
With the last monster fallen, the thrilling battle finally came to a temporary end. The two collapsed to the ground, exhausted, panting heavily, their chests heaving. "Finally, it's over," Su Yao said weakly, leaning on Lin Yu's shoulder, a look of relief on her face. Lin Yu gently wiped the dust from her cheek, wanting to say something comforting, but he was too tired to speak.
However, before they could even recover and enjoy this moment of peace, a deep, guttural roar, as if from the depths of hell, echoed from the heart of the ancient house. The sound shook the surrounding rubble, and the malevolent aura in the air grew even stronger. Lin Yu and Su Yao exchanged a glance, seeing deep worry and a sense of foreboding in each other's eyes. They knew that this battle against unknown evil had only just begun…
