Moonlight falls into my arms

Chapter 4 is related to that first love.

Ruan Li put the soup dumplings she was holding back down.

Jiang Yuci glanced at her childish actions.

Ruan Li leaned forward on the table to meet his gaze. "You know my name is Ruan Li. Last night, you called out my name..."

Before Ruan Li could finish speaking, there was a knock on the door.

A doctor in a white coat, whose hair was still disheveled, stood at the door. He looked a little younger than Jiang Yuci and was staring at the two of them with a mocking expression. "Has Dr. Jiang finally figured it out?"

Ruan Li stood up straight and looked at him, knowing that he had misunderstood, and specially explained, "I am his relative's child."

Jiang Yuci lowered his eyes, not looking at the two of them, busy with his own affairs.

"Do you think I don't know if he has any relatives or children like you?"

Ruan Li glanced at his crooked name tag, which read Jiang Yan Hui. She noticed that his features resembled Jiang Yu Ci's and guessed that he might be Jiang Yu Ci's younger brother or something similar. That's how she learned about Jiang Yu Ci.

Then another nurse came in, "Dr. Jiang, patient number 203 is looking for..."

The nurse stared at Ruan Li, as if trying to guess why she was there.

Jiang Yuci pulled out her medical record, tucked the pen in her hand behind her collar, and walked past the two of them. Ruan Li immediately followed.

Jiang Yuci walked quickly, and Ruan Li was grabbed by the collar by Jiang Yanhui.

Ruan Li was wearing the same dress she wore last night, and there was nothing underneath. With someone lifting her like that, she felt even more insecure and quickly pressed her hand to her collar, asking, "What are you doing?"

"Where did you get this child from? What's your relationship with him?"

Ruan Li thought this person was really rude. How could he just grab someone else's clothes like that, especially since he was a doctor? She pushed him away and took two steps back. "What's it to you? It's none of your business."

Jiang Yan looked up and saw Jiang Yuci, who was walking ahead, turn around and glance back.

He seemed to have discovered something interesting, loosened his grip on Ruan Li's clothes, smiled, and took out a piece of candy from his pocket. "You have such a temper. I was a bit harsh with you just now. I apologize, okay? Here, have some candy."

"Stop pretending, who's your sister?" Ruan Li didn't even glance at him and ran after Jiang Yuci.

Jiang Yuci was talking to the patient lying on the hospital bed, and didn't look at Ruan Li once.

Ruan Li stared at him expectantly, waiting by his side.

The ward was warm, and she was a little hot from running around. She unzipped her jacket a little, fanned herself with her hand, and glanced at the snow scene outside the window.

Jiang Yuci asked about the recovery progress, but the person in the hospital bed did not respond.

He stopped writing, looked up and glanced around, his gaze settling on Ruan Li.

Jiang Yuci took a step to the side, and the patient, whose view was blocked, realized what was happening. "Um, Dr. Jiang, what did you just ask?"

Jiang Yuci looked at Ruan Li and said, "Go outside and wait for me."

Ruan Li's eyes lit up; this meant they could discuss it. She smiled and said, "Okay!"

Ruan Li didn't have to wait long before Jiang Yuci came out. Ruan Li immediately went up to him and said, "You asked me to stay last night, why did you suddenly change your mind?"

The nurse next to her stared wide-eyed at Ruan Li, her gaze shifting between the two of them.

Ruan Li tugged at his white coat with her fingertips. "I really can help you, you believe me, okay?"

Jiang Yuci glanced at Jiang Yanhui, who was staring at them from not far away, and Jiang Yanhui gave her a provocative smile.

Jiang Yuci acted as if he hadn't seen it and said to Ruan Li, "Go eat breakfast first."

Since this is their tactic, he should just join in. If he doesn't join this one, there will be another one waiting for him. Why bother with all that trouble?

"I ate breakfast... and then what?" Ruan Li asked tentatively in a low voice.

Jiang Yuci fixed his gaze on her. "Wait."

Ruan Li obediently followed him back to the consultation room; they could discuss it.

Ruan Li didn't expect that this wait would last all morning.

"Dr. Jiang, would you like me to pack you some food?" someone asked from outside the door.

Jiang Yuci glanced at the time; it was almost one o'clock.

In the corner, Ruan Li sat on a chair, leaning against the wall, asleep.

The hood of her black down jacket covered her eyebrows and eyes, revealing only her lips and nose. A few strands of hair clung to her cheeks, rising and falling with her breath.

It's a long time ago. She was like that too. During the few minutes of break between classes in winter, she would put on a hat and sleep on her desk. He would pass by the window again and again, and his feigned sleep fooled everyone.

"Dr. Jiang?"

"No thanks."

It was nearly 2 a.m. when Jiang Yu finally finished her work.

The person next to him was still asleep. Jiang Yuci wanted to wake him up, but he couldn't utter the name Ruan Li.

Ruan Li was awakened by the coldness on her forehead. As soon as she opened her eyes, Jiang Yuci had already withdrawn his hand.

"Are you done with your work?" Ruan Li rubbed her eyes, still sounding sleepy.

"Ahem..." Ruan Li stood up and took off her hat, her eyes still half-closed.

"Sore throat? Stuffy nose?" Jiang Yu asked.

Ruan Li nodded, half-asleep, "I feel dizzy."

Jiang Yuci took Ruan Li to Dr. Li to get medicine for her cold. The hospital was still crowded. Ruan Li followed closely behind Jiang Yuci, afraid of losing her.

They went to the hospital cafeteria, and along the way, many people would linger on Ruan Li for a couple of seconds whenever they saw Jiang Yuci.

Ruan Li looked at Jiang Yuci and said, "They didn't greet you at all. It seems your relationships with your colleagues aren't very good."

As soon as Ruan Li finished speaking, the cafeteria auntie greeted Jiang Yuci: "It's rare to see Dr. Jiang eating in the cafeteria. Are you free today?"

Jiang Yuci nodded, placed the medicine in his hand on the table, and looked at Ruan Li: "Go get your own food."

Ruan Li looked at the rows of display cases, as if she were back in school. "Hmm... none of them look appetizing. I have trouble making decisions..."

Jiang Yuci stood next to her, and his eyes widened for a moment after hearing her words.

Jiang Yuci casually ordered two dishes. While he was carrying his tray to his seat, Ruan Li was still standing in front of the window, hesitating.

A while later, she returned with the same food as Jiang Yuci.

She saw the plain water on the table and said, "You're a doctor, don't you know it's bad to drink water while eating?"

Jiang Yuci looked up and pointed to her cold medicine with her fingertip.

Ruan Li: ?

Did you answer it for her?

"It's rare to see you in the cafeteria." Dr. Li had just finished his work and sat down next to Jiang Yuci with his food tray. He glanced at Ruan Li and said, "Little sister, you take your medicine after meals."

“Okay…” Ruan Li pursed her lips, staring at the steaming hot water in the paper cup.

By the time she finishes eating, the food will have cooled down a bit, which will be just right for her to take her medicine.

She smiled at Jiang Yuci and said, "Thank you."

Jiang Yu ate in silence.

Ruan Li lowered her eyes, scooped up a mouthful of soup, and drank it. It was bland and tasteless, so she only drank one sip and then stopped.

Dr. Li ate a few bites and then barely touched his chopsticks. "Ugh, this cafeteria in Hua'an is so bad, even a living person would die from eating here."

Ruan Li chewed on the vegetables in her mouth and nodded in agreement, "It doesn't feel like we're eating, it just feels like we're trying to stay alive."

Jiang Yu resigned: "......"

Ruan Li looked at Jiang Yuci, who was eating with his head down, and asked, "Don't you think it tastes bad at all?"

Dr. Li clicked his tongue. "Little sister, you're really suffering eating with him. We were in the same class in high school. The food on the first floor of our school cafeteria was notoriously bad. I was poor back then, so I had no choice but to eat there. He and I were the only ones in our class who ate there. I used to think he was like me, but I later found out that he wasn't picky about food at all. He could even stomach the food that others found hard to swallow."

"After that, he stopped eating on the first floor, and I didn't even have a meal buddy anymore."

Ruan Li poked at the cabbage in her rice plate, "Why didn't you eat on the first floor anymore? Were you tired of it?"

"Ha, the word 'getting tired' probably doesn't exist in his life. Once he sets his mind on something, it's always the same. He can eat the same plate of cabbage for a whole semester without changing it. Even if he doesn't eat it on the first floor anymore..."

Before Dr. Li could finish speaking, Jiang Yuci stood up with her food tray and said, "You can eat slowly."

Ruan Li was taken aback and looked at Dr. Li, "What's wrong with him?"

Dr. Li slowly stopped laughing, chuckling awkwardly, "I misspoke, little sister. Take your time eating. Don't come to the cafeteria with him anymore. Go out and eat something better. You're still growing."

Ruan Li looked at him tentatively, "Is it related to your first love?"

"To see her?" Ruan Li guessed something from the clues in the diary.
