Moonlight falls into my arms

Chapter 23 Malnutrition

Jiang Yuci stood on the balcony for ten minutes, letting the cold wind blow through her.

The doctor's words came to mind: Ruan Li was malnourished, had a weakened immune system, and had developed a high fever due to the special occasion.

Malnutrition?

I don't know why, but I suddenly felt guilty for not raising my child properly. He has food and drink every day, yet he is still malnourished.

Ruan Li took the thermometer out and said, "Jiang Yuci, his fever has subsided."

"Hmm..." He took the thermometer. A night breeze blew in, and Ruan Li's hair fluttered. Jiang Yuci stepped in front of her to block some of the wind. "Go inside. You can't catch a cold now that your fever has subsided."

Ruan Li yawned. "Can I go out tomorrow?"

"You'll come to the hospital with me tomorrow."

Ruan Li originally wanted to look for ways to get in around the school, but since Jiang Yuci had already said so, she didn't refuse. "Going to the hospital is so boring, and the food in the cafeteria is terrible."

Jiang Yuci frowned slightly, suddenly realizing the reason for Ruan Li's malnutrition.

The next day, to verify this, Jiang Yuci sat next to Ruan Li and stared at her as she ate.

After watching for only a few minutes, Jiang Yuci laughed in exasperation, "You don't eat a single bite of vegetables or meat?"

Jiang Yuci noticed that Ruan Li's rice plate contained two vegetarian dishes and one meat dish. She picked at some scrambled eggs with tomatoes, but didn't touch the other vegetables and chicken.

Ruan Li looked up from the food and said, "I've eaten."

"What did you eat?" he asked again.

"Isn't a tomato a vegetable? Eggs are so nutritious, they're practically meat, right?" After finishing her tomato and egg stir-fry, Ruan Li put down her chopsticks and decided not to eat anymore.

Jiang Yuci didn't really want to interfere; what she liked to eat was her business.

He looked away and casually took his phone back; Ruan Ligang was holding his phone and reading comics.

Jiang Yuci glanced at the screen before exiting, his expression strange. He stared at the name on the screen and slowly looked at Ruan Li. "What are you looking at?"

Ruan Li bit her lip, a little embarrassed, and said weakly, "The innocent girl is fiery, quite pretty."

Jiang Yuci took a deep breath, his fingertip hovering over the screen for a long time without tapping, as if his phone was already dirty.

Since Ruan Li didn't have a phone to play with, she started playing with her smartwatch.

Jiang Yuci discovered that Ruan Li had become quite proficient at using the smartwatch after only one day of giving it to her, and had even learned how to read novels on it.

"You don't want to eat?"

Ruan Li stared at the small electronic screen and replied, "Disgusting."

Jiang Yuci ignored her.

He turned off his phone, picked up a piece of cabbage with his chopsticks, and slowly ate it.

He estimated the amount of meat on Ruan Li's plate, then touched a piece, took only one bite, and threw it aside. He probably ate two bites of vegetables.

Is this how malnutrition occurs?

The familiar cabbage in his mouth suddenly tasted bland and tasteless. After a few bites, Jiang Yuci's mood gradually became irritable.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Ruan Li using chopsticks to pile the meat and vegetables on her plate together.

"What are you doing?"

Ruan Li turned her head and glanced at her aunt.

There was an older woman helping to clear the plates at the food return area. Ruan Li gestured to Jiang Yuci, "Have you seen that woman?"

"Ah."

Ruan Li pointed at the meat on her plate with her chopsticks. "If I just take this over to dump the rice, Auntie will say I'm picky and wasting food."

"Don't you?"

Ruan Li felt he was being a bit unreasonable. "Look, why are there so few people in your hospital cafeteria? It's because the food is terrible. It's even worse than the food at our school. I've never eaten anything this bad. Even simple things like tomatoes and potatoes, which can be cooked to be delicious, are made to taste awful. You must have some kind of unique talent."

Ruan Li must have had enough of the cafeteria, because she started complaining to Jiang Yuci, chattering away.

"I'm already being considerate by piling all this meat together."

A look of confusion appeared in Jiang Yuci's eyes, clearly not understanding why Ruan Li's behavior was giving them face.

Ruan Li stared at him and shook her head. "No way, haven't you ever experienced this? On holiday mornings, your parents leave breakfast for you, but you don't eat it. To avoid getting scolded, you just grab a few bites and pretend you've eaten."

Jiang Yu resigned: "......"

"Let's go." He stood up, carrying his tray.

Ruan Li was surprised, staring at the food he had barely touched: "You don't usually eat this little."

"I'm not eating anymore," he replied, subtly taking the plate from Ruan Li's hand.

Ruan Li didn't go to the food dispensing counter. Jiang Yuci had already taken on the responsibility of handling the aunt's glaring eyes, so of course she wouldn't refuse.

Jiang Yuci carried over two trays of food.

The plate was placed by the window. The aunt reached over and, seeing the full, untouched plate, looked up at it.

Upon seeing that it was Jiang Yuci, she was taken aback for a moment. "Dr. Jiang, is there a problem with today's food?"

Jiang Yuci is a rare doctor who is willing to eat in the cafeteria every day. He is a regular customer of the auntie's. If Jiang Yuci can't eat the food, then there must be a real problem.

Jiang Yuci nodded. "It tastes a bit awful."

After saying that, he put down the plates and left.

The aunt muttered blankly, "It seems the food really wasn't good today; he said it was awful."

Ruan Li stood at the cafeteria entrance, looking at Jiang Yuci, "What did you just say to Auntie?"

Jiang Yuci wiped his hands with a napkin and handed one to Ruan Li.

"Nothing said."

"Didn't your aunt ask you why you left so much?" Ruan Li followed behind her, and the two went to the sink to wash their hands again, then wiped them with clean paper towels. Ruan Li didn't know when, but she had also picked up Jiang Yuci's habit.

"did not ask."

Ruan Li pouted, "Why do I have to ask every time I go?"

Ruan Li watched Jiang Yuci leave for the hospital parking garage. She tilted her head and looked at Jiang Yuci: "Where are you going? Aren't you going to work?"

"It's my lunch break now."

Ruan Li got into the car, not knowing where Jiang Yuci was going. Anyway, she skillfully took her phone out of Jiang Yuci's pocket and didn't care about anything else.

"Jiang Yuci, did that nurse who added you on WeChat last time message you?"

Jiang Yuci frowned, completely unable to recall which one it was. "What did it send?"

Ruan Li clicked in and took a look.

"Dr. Jiang, what did you have for lunch today? (smiley face)..." Ruan Li glanced up at him, "Do you want to go back?"

It wasn't important information, and Jiang Yuci still couldn't remember what it was. "What's the note?"

"Nurse 023".

After Ruan Li finished speaking, Jiang Yuci finally remembered that she was the nurse in charge of drug testing.

"Should I help you go back?" Ruan Li asked.

Jiang Yuci shook his head: "Ask her if something happened to 023's patient."

Ruan Li smiled. "Dr. Jiang, you don't think she came to see you because of a patient, do you?"
