Chapter 88 Nathaniel (Part 1)
"I don't know what you're talking about—" Sharp's voice was icy. He gripped the crowbar tightly, trying to move towards Zhao Lin step by step. But each step was extremely difficult; the other party was no pushover.
“And do I even know you?” he continued.
“You’ll meet him soon enough.” Nathaniel’s tone was deliberately sarcastic as he gently shook the dying Zhao Lin in his hands, letting her body sway slightly in the air. “Anal Lefève told me everything; she saw something different in your subconscious…”
Just then, a sharp scream shattered the tense atmosphere. It turned out that Abu had seized the opportunity to bite Nathaniel's arm hard, catching Nathaniel off guard with this sudden attack. Hearing Abu's scream, Sharp also used all his strength to throw the crowbar in his hand at Nathaniel's head without hesitation.
"Dead cat—"
After dodging the flying crowbar, Nathaniel roared in fury, his arm throbbing with pain from Abu's bite. He grabbed Abu and violently threw him out the window. The window shattered instantly, shards of glass flying everywhere with a sharp cracking sound.
"Cats have nine lives, does she?"
"Oh no! Zhao Lin!" Sharp saw a hint of cruelty in her eyes.
Nathaniel tossed Zhao Lin into the air, watching her helplessly plummet. Sharp, seeing this, panicked and lunged forward, trying to catch her mid-air. In the nick of time, both of them crashed to the ground with a dull thud.
Zhao Lin was breathless from the fall. Sharp, beneath her, was in even worse shape, serving as a cushion for her fall.
"Sharp, get up!" Zhao Lin called out anxiously, struggling to sit up. She held Sharp's arm tightly and helped him up.
As Nathaniel drew closer, Zhao Lin's deepest fear resurfaced, but she still stood firm.
"Stop... Haven't you been trying to arrest me? This has nothing to do with her, let her go." Sharp stood in front of Zhao Lin, his voice pleading.
However, Nathaniel's answer plunged Sharp into utter despair.
"Of course there's a connection. Now, anyone who's had contact with you can't escape—you time traveler."
Then, Nathaniel slowly approached Sharp, the distance between them growing ever closer. He lowered his head, brought his ear close, and whispered in a deep, husky voice:
Where is my Naya?
Upon hearing this, Sharp was completely bewildered. What did he mean by "your Naya"? This absurd question left him speechless. However, after only a moment, he suddenly understood what the other person meant, and a feeling of grief and indignation welled up inside him.
"You bastards, you drove her to her death! And you're asking me that?" he roared.
Nathaniel's patience had reached its limit. He grabbed Sharp and separated him from Zhao Lin. Then, he seized Sharp by the neck, and with his strong, powerful body, he leaped forward, smashing through the convenience store wall.
"Sharp!" Zhao Lin screamed in terror. She quickly dodged the flying debris and rushed outside without hesitation.
A dilapidated tractor was parked next to the service area. Nathaniel walked straight towards it, angrily shoving it aside with the back of his hand. Abu rushed out from the side, trying to stop Nathaniel's attack on Sharp, but Nathaniel completely ignored the insignificant animal.
"What do you mean we forced her to her death? Where is she now?!" Nathaniel's eyes widened. Unbeknownst to him, Naya's conch shell rolled out from Sharp's body, its white shell stained with a little blood.
“She’s dead! Killed by your leader!” Sharp cried out in despair.
Before he could finish speaking, Nathaniel charged at Sharp like a whirlwind, delivering a powerful straight punch to Sharp's face. Sharp had no time to dodge; he felt a sharp pain in his nose, and blood gushed out.
The punch left Sharp dizzy, but Nathaniel didn't stop there. He followed up with a kick to Sharp's stomach. Sharp fell to the ground in pain, curling up into a ball.
Seeing this, Zhao Lin rushed forward without hesitation and tightly hugged Nathaniel's flailing arms. Nathaniel had completely lost his mind and continued punching Sharp. If this continued, Sharp would be beaten to death.
"Stop hitting me!" Zhao Lin shouted hysterically.
However, Nathaniel seemed not to hear, broke free from Zhao Lin's grasp, and drew the dagger from his waist...
"I'll ask you one more time, where is Naya?"
Amidst a cloud of blood mist, Sharp noticed that the suspended dagger was tied with the same deep blue feather as Naya's. Suddenly, the identity of the person before him seemed clear.
“I already said…” Sharp stared at him and replied, enunciating each word clearly.
The dagger fell to the ground with a thud.
"Wow!"
A sharp crack broke the silence as a long iron chain swung from nearby, like a nimble snake, swiftly coiling around Nathaniel's falling arms. The chain was so strong that Nathaniel could not resist and was violently thrown to the ground.
It all happened so suddenly that Sharp didn't even have time to see clearly. He only felt a powerful force instantly subdue Nathaniel. He vaguely heard footsteps coming from not far away—
“Children fighting is childish; they don’t consider the consequences or the people who die because of it.” A mature female voice rang out with a soft sigh. Immediately afterward, a tall figure stepped over the fallen Nathaniel and walked to Sharp’s side.
Seeing the woman bend down, Sharp thought she was going to reach out to him, but she didn't expect that she would just take Naya's conch shell that had fallen to the side.
Then, the woman closed her eyes, as if she were mourning something.
"Are you Sharp?" the woman asked.
Sharp nodded.
"Could you please help him up? My car is up ahead, and I need to get out of here first," she said to Zhao Lin beside her, before picking up Nathaniel herself.
"Naren? How come it's you? Didn't you already—" Before Nathaniel could finish speaking, the woman kicked him hard, gagged him, and threw him into the trunk without any politeness.
"Wait, Na Ling?" Sharp coughed up blood, his face ashen, but he still stared wide-eyed at the woman in front of him. He reached out and pulled a card with a triangular pattern from his inner pocket, gesturing for Zhao Lin to hand it to the woman.
The woman took the card, glanced at it quickly, and then fell into deep thought. After a long while, she looked up, her gaze sharp.
“Salta already told you,” she said calmly, gently waving the card in her hand. “I am Miss Xiao, and also…”
Naling's voice abruptly stopped, and the coldness in her eyes was suddenly replaced by anger. Her gaze turned back to Sharp, seemingly filled with endless resentment towards him.
"Naya's older sister."
Na Ling gritted her teeth and uttered those words, each one filled with deep hatred.
