Boonie Bears: Another World Fantasy

Chapter 83 The Shattered Throne (Part 2)

Even though he could fall asleep at night, he still felt extremely tired when he woke up the next morning, as if he hadn't rested at all. Sharp had just gotten out of bed, and all his energy seemed to have been drained. The light outside the window was unusually bright, making it difficult for his eyes to focus, and his vision was blurry.

The television screen in the living room showed a cluster of skyscrapers in downtown Shenzhen. Sunlight shone on them, creating a stark black-and-white contrast that made them look like giant tombstones. Sharp changed the channel and heard children playing outside the window.

Sharp sighed, continuing to think about going to Shenzhen, turned off the TV, stood up and walked to the window.

A clear meow came from outside the window, and a small, blue figure sat alone on the windowsill. Looking closer, he saw that the kitten had a round face and pale blue fur. Sharp's heart skipped a beat; the kitten seemed familiar, but he couldn't quite place it. He rubbed his eyes, looked again, and finally realized that this kitten was the talking white cat he had encountered before.

“Fat Bo?” he asked softly.

"What, Fatty? It's me, Abu!" Hearing Sharp's call, Abu nimbly leaped up and jumped into the house, landing steadily on the coffee table. It picked up the fried dough stick that Sharp had just finished eating and took a big bite, eating with great relish.

Sharp looked at Abu in surprise and asked in a low voice, "What happened? I haven't seen you since that day."

While chewing on a fried dough stick, Abu mumbled, "Those military investigators have been giving me trouble and trying to arrest me, so I had to go into hiding. To avoid their pursuit, I even had to take off the white fur coat I had changed into." After saying that, it patted its round belly contentedly and let out a burp.

"Why did you disguise yourself like that? To get closer to us?" Although Abu didn't seem hostile, Sharp remained somewhat wary.

"I was just curious about you two. I didn't expect you to get caught up in the V Group's scheme... Oh, by the way, where's Naya?" Upon hearing that name, Sharp's face turned pale instantly. He seemed to want to say something, but couldn't utter a sound. Abu looked at Sharp, a sense of unease rising in his heart.

Sharp turned his gaze to the window.

"I let her down." He lowered his head, his eyes glazed over, his hands gripping the corner of the sofa tightly, his knuckles white from the exertion.

Abu sensed something extremely wrong from those words. He reached out and gently placed his paw on the back of Sharp's hand, remaining silent. A tense atmosphere filled the living room.

"Uncle, why are you up so early..." A lazy humming sound came from the direction of the room. Perhaps she had spoken a little too loudly, Zhao Lin, still wearing her bathrobe, stood sleepily in the doorway, rubbing her eyes, seemingly not fully awake. She saw breakfast on the table, then glanced at Sharp sitting on the sofa and Abu beside him, and asked with some confusion, "Huh, why is there a cat?"

"I bought you breakfast, wash up and come eat." Sharp slapped away Abu's hand that was reaching for the remaining fried dough stick and moved it aside.

"Oh dear~ Sharp~ I'm not full yet~" Abu snuggled against Sharp's sleeve, and started using the same tactics he used on Naya to deal with her.

"Get lost—" Sharp said disdainfully.

......

"Finally finished packing." Zhao Lin stretched, yawned, and closed the trunk of the car with a sigh of relief. Then she twirled the car keys Salta had given her between her fingers.

"Are you really alright? I heard it takes at least five hours to get to Shenzhen from here on the highway. If it's really too much, I can drive." Sharp looked at Zhao Lin's slightly tired face and dark circles under her eyes, worried about whether she could handle such a long driving time. After all, she hadn't slept well last night.

"Hey, uncle, when did you become so concerned about me? Is it because you're about to start a new job and you're trying to curry favor with your boss in advance?" Zhao Lin leaned against the car door, a smug look on her face.

"You have quite the imagination, Reporter Zhao." Sharp shook his head helplessly, speechless at Zhao Lin's teasing.

"But thank you for your concern! Don't worry, this level of exertion is less than half of what I usually do." Seeing her confidence, Sharp couldn't persuade her otherwise and could only obediently listen to her.

"If you feel tired, find a service area to rest, or call me..." Sharp reminded him again.

"Uncle, stop nagging and get in the car." Zhao Lin opened the car door and got into the driver's seat.

"Xiao Linzi, remember to wear more clothes when you get there! Just let me know in advance if you're coming back next time!" Old Zhao said loudly from the doorway.

“Okay!” she replied loudly.

As the engine started, the car emitted a low rumble and then smoothly moved forward. Outside the window, buildings rushed past. Sharp leaned against the window, his eyes intently fixed on the scenery outside.

Suddenly, a familiar coffee shop came into Sharp's view. A young girl standing at the entrance, enthusiastically promoting her coffee, caught Sharp's attention. She was wearing a brightly colored uniform and smiling broadly as she handed out flyers to passersby. Sharp's eyes widened instantly, and his body involuntarily leaned forward, as if drawn by an invisible force.

"What's wrong, Uncle?" Zhao Lin noticed Sharp's unusual reaction through the rearview mirror and asked.

"N-nothing..." Sharp stammered, quickly slumping back into his seat, trying to hide his embarrassment. But in reality, only he knew that the familiar figure still lingered in this place, never having left.

"Meow~ How could you go to such a great place like Shenzhen without me!"

A cheerful meow suddenly rang out, and Abu, who had been lying under the car seat with its eyes closed, could no longer hold back. It quickly opened its eyes and jumped from under the seat to the passenger seat.

"what--!"

"A cat?! This cat can talk?!"

Zhao Lin was startled and almost lost control of the steering wheel.

Sharp, who was sitting in the back, was also startled. He quickly reached out and grabbed the armrest, leaning forward and nearly hitting his head on the back of the seat in front of him.

The two of them looked at the "uninvited guest" at the same time, their expressions twisted.

Abu blinked his big, innocent eyes, "Waaah... If you don't take me, I'll be left to wander the streets all by myself..."

Seeing Abu like this, Zhao Lin's heart softened immediately, and she couldn't help but pat Abu's head: "Okay, okay, just consider him a companion."

But this trick will never fool Sharp.

“Once we get there, I’ll sell you to a pet shop right away,” Sharp said, glaring at it with displeasure.

......

Meanwhile, in the cornfields on the outskirts.

He arrived at a solitary hill overlooking the entire town, and Salta breathed a sigh of relief as he watched the car slowly drive out of town.

This was unlike the tranquil countryside he remembered; thick smoke and flames billowed from the burning cornfield. He believed that the uninvited guests sent to monitor Sharp Zhao Lin should be held responsible.

“They’re safe for now,” a voice came from behind him.

“I don’t know what brought you here, Naling, you’re here too early,” Salta said to the woman, throwing the broken stick on the ground.

“I think I’ve arrived at the perfect time.” Na Ling also stared into the distance, seemingly checking the safety of the area.

"Is that the guy Mu Si is looking for?" she asked repeatedly.

“I can assure you, Mus himself came here and took the Golden Antlers with him.” His tone revealed a sense of guilt and helplessness.

"Although I don't know why Mus wanted to capture him, I feel that he was waiting, waiting for the best time to strike."

Na Ling squinted at the burning fields; the situation was dire.

“Lefève failed, and from now on, only stronger Templars will be sent to carry out this mission.” She frowned and analyzed, “I’m leaving my sister in your care. As long as her body isn’t destroyed, I can find a way to bring her back to life.”

"You're not thinking of snatching the Golden Antlers from Mus, are you?" Salta sensed something was amiss. "He's just waiting for you to walk right into his trap..."

“I have to give it a try.” Na Ling clenched her fist and said seriously.

“If Mus captures me, Salta, forget about me, go and contact the other members of your tribe…” she said.

"If that madman succeeds, we will all pay the price—"
