Boonie Bears: Another World Fantasy

Chapter 73 The Deer Knight (Part 2)

"We have received an emergency call reporting a terrorist attack on the V Group building on Third Avenue in the northern part of the city... We request assistance from the Armed Police Force." The police walkie-talkie kept repeating this message.

Having just escaped a kidnapping crisis, Peng Fei rushed to the scene on Third Avenue after hearing the news that An Han had gone to the V Group building alone. However, the area was already surrounded by police cars.

How could Karl let her do such a thing? He cursed inwardly.

"Sir, please move away from here! Please cooperate with our work!" Several police officers stepped forward and stopped him.

"What's going on inside?" Peng Fei asked, pointing to the tall building. As if in response, several people in office uniforms suddenly ran out of the main entrance on the first floor. They spoke to the police behind the cordon with terrified expressions. Immediately afterward, thick smoke billowed from the first floor, quickly spreading and engulfing the entire building. The sound of walls crumbling could be heard intermittently from inside. The building was on fire.

Chaos erupted outside the building.

......

"Hmm... Ugh..." An Han let out a painful groan. Her hand was tightly clutching a USB drive, but her body was too weak to hold on, and the USB drive fell in front of Xiao Junyao. Xiao Junyao frowned, but she didn't stop walking.

"This...can't be thrown away..." Surprisingly, An Han still retained a sliver of consciousness. She pleaded with Xiao Junyao in a weak voice.

"Stop nagging!" Xiao Junyao replied impatiently, but still bent down and picked up the USB drive. Then, she carried An Han into the freight elevator.

"To actually dare to come here alone, I really have to admire your ignorance and courage, An Han." In this tense atmosphere, Xiao Junyao's tone remained cold, clearly showing no sympathy or friendliness towards An Han. However, her next words were somewhat unexpected: "But you're lucky, we just happen to be going the same way."

"It's on the USB drive..."

Before An Han could finish speaking, Xiao Junyao interrupted her: "Save your energy, I already knew what those lunatics were up to."

Xiao Junyao knew without a doubt that An Han's elaborate trip here was solely for gathering evidence to expose the V Group's secrets regarding Zixing. However, what she didn't know was that Sunset and the V Group were already inextricably linked, like ants on a rope. Xiao Junyao sighed inwardly. She had previously warned An Han not to get involved in these matters; as long as she focused on her own work, she wouldn't be drawn into this turmoil.

“I told you not to worry about these things, just do what you’re supposed to do, and then none of this will concern you…” she said, as she put the USB drive back into An Han’s hand.

As the underground elevator slowly approached the first floor, the thick smoke from the fire grew increasingly dense.

"My only task is to get you out of here safely. What happens after that is none of my business. You're on your own..."

At this moment, An Han couldn't see Xiao Junyao's expression, but she simply felt that her profile was familiar, as if it had existed in a fleeting moment of her past memory.

"Help! Someone's still alive here!"

The fire brigade, who had just arrived at the scene, found An Han next to an open ventilation vent. Although they had searched the area repeatedly, they still couldn't figure out why she had suddenly appeared there.

"Xiao Han?!" Outside the building, Peng Fei was shocked to see the limp An Han being carried out on a stretcher. He immediately rushed over and grabbed her hand. However, the medical staff nearby quickly gestured for Peng Fei to move aside so they could better provide An Han with emergency treatment. Not far away, the sirens of ambulances wailed incessantly, as if urging everyone to hurry.

As night fell, a faintly visible figure stood amidst the clamor, silently observing everything unfolding before her as the setting sun cast its last rays.

"I didn't expect Miss Naling to help me first, and now I owe her another favor." Another long-distance call rang in my ear, and the old butler joked on the other end of the line.

Xiao Junyao frowned slightly. She knew she had been caught red-handed again. For someone as shrewd and capable as Karl, everything seemed to be under his control. Therefore, she remained wary of Karl; after all, being robbed was something she hated most.

"However, the reason you're so relaxed is probably because my actions were within your expectations, right?" Xiao Junyao asked tentatively, her sharp gaze fixed on the distance.

Carl's laughter came through the phone: "That's true, but you chose an unwise way to handle it."

A slight, almost imperceptible smile played on her lips. "Don't worry about that, Butler Karl. Sometimes, taking a risk is necessary." She knew full well that her decision was not impulsive, but rather a carefully considered choice.

“I’m different from you, don’t try to treat me like a normal person.” She understood that only by taking the first step ahead of others could she remain invincible in this unpredictable world.

After a moment of silence, Karl slowly asked, "Have you heard anything about your sister?"

Xiao Junyao hadn't expected Karl to ask such a question. Her heart warmed, and she didn't know how to answer for a moment.

"I guess I've got it..."

Not far away, a group of armed police officers filed out of patrol cars. Xiao Junyao turned her back sensitively and pulled up her hood to cover her face.

"Aren't you worried at all about your daughter? She almost became a guinea pig just now."

“I will go to the hospital to see her, but not now.” Karl seemed unusually relaxed at this moment. “We need to teach these young people a lesson, don’t we?”

......

Bear Ridge.

When the wardrobe was gently pushed open, the brown suede shawl was revealed to Sharp without reservation. It hung there quietly, as if waiting for its owner to return, anticipating the day it would be worn again. And the coarse cloth shirt neatly folded beneath the shawl exuded the fresh scent unique to the enchanted forest.

In a daze, a brown-haired girl slowly turned around, her face beaming with a radiant smile. Her eyes were clear and bright, like stars twinkling in the night sky.

Standing to the side, Zhao Lin watched all this, her heart filled with mixed emotions, yet she didn't know how to express them. In the end, she chose to remain silent, unable to bear watching this unsettling scene any longer, so she silently shifted her gaze to the window of the private room.

Some things have changed, and they can never go back to the way they were before...

“A friend of mine in Shenzhen said the situation there isn’t very good—” She nervously gripped her sleeve, her brows furrowed, her heart filled with worry: “The high priest of the deer clan has revealed his identity, and now the outside world is in an uproar. All the changes that have happened in the entire Bear Ridge have been reported.”

"Is this your occupational hazard? You're always making such a fuss," Sharp said as he walked past her, carrying a pile of old clothes.

"I'm not making a fuss about this at all. I'm just explaining the situation to you!" She stamped her foot, looking helpless.

"By the way, what's your relationship with Salta? Judging from your expressions, it seems like you've known each other for a long time." After tidying up Naya's clothes, Sharp asked while wiping the sweat from his forehead with a tissue.

Zhao Lin's thoughts were drawn back to a few years ago. She recalled the first time she met Salta. Back then, she often went on solo adventures in the forest, and it was there that she unexpectedly encountered this innocent reindeer boy.

“I didn’t know he was a member of the Deer Clan… and I never imagined he would know Naya,” Zhao Lin murmured to herself.

“Maybe he knows something about that long-haired man.” Sharp’s voice was filled with an unyielding resentment as he gazed out the window at the approaching dusk. He clenched his fists tightly.

"Don't do anything foolish!" Hearing the certainty in his voice, Zhao Lin's heart immediately jumped. She quickly went to Sharp's side, looking at him with worry. "Even if you know, so what? You saw it yourself, they're not people that ordinary people can fight..."

Zhao Lin's words did not move Sharp. He clicked his tongue, a disdainful expression on his face. "I'm not just anyone," he said calmly, then picked up his backpack and walked out the door without hesitation.

"Sharp!" Zhao Lin's anxious voice came from behind.

She knew Sharp's personality; once he decided to do something, he wouldn't turn back, even if he went his own way.

This really does resemble someone...
