Boonie Bears: Another World Fantasy
Chapter 72 The Deer Knight (Part 1)
"Beep beep beep—Emergency evacuation notice—All personnel are requested to evacuate the work area immediately—" A sharp, piercing alarm suddenly blared, echoing throughout the vast underground factory. The two men, already tense and on the verge of confrontation, were abruptly interrupted by the alarm.
An Han glanced at Han Shaoyi, who was lying on the ground unable to move, and secretly rejoiced: the perfect opportunity to explore this place in the chaos had finally arrived!
"Wait! Xiao Han, what are you trying to do?" Han Shaoyi keenly sensed An Han's intentions, and his face instantly turned fawning. He scrambled forward and grabbed An Han's leg tightly.
“I’ve told you everything! Please don’t leave me here!” he pleaded desperately.
"Oh? Is that so?" An Han's lips curled into a wicked smile as she thoroughly enjoyed the subservient manner of the man before her.
Without hesitation, she raised her foot and kicked the repulsive man away. Then, swiftly and decisively, she opened the storage room door.
"Just stay here and relax. Nowhere is safer than here." After saying this, An Han slammed the door shut with a sense of vengeful satisfaction, making sure it was locked and couldn't be opened. Having done this, she turned and ran towards the core area of the factory laboratory.
The lab staff seemed to obey the alarm system without question, obediently evacuating towards the elevator. Before long, the once noisy lab was left with only An Han searching for things.
“Well done, Karl! I wish you had used this alarm system sooner.” An Han said as she copied research data about Purple Star from her computer onto a USB drive.
“Miss, this isn’t my idea,” Carl replied, somewhat surprised. At that moment, he was intently watching the scene displayed on the V Group’s closed-circuit television monitor.
The agile figure moved with ghostly ease through the narrow, dark passage, her movements fluid and swift, easily dispatching the guards who tried to block her path. She seemed anxiously searching for some important item.
"It's Miss Xiao..." Karl subconsciously touched the stubble on his chin, countless questions surging in his mind.
Under the flashing, dim red warning lights of the laboratory, An Han skillfully operated the office computer, pulling up the compressed file and quickly decompressing it. Just then, a sophisticated electronic map suddenly appeared on the computer screen, and An Han's hands, which had been typing on the keyboard, instantly stopped.
"A map of the reservoirs?" Her eyes widened as she stared at the map on the screen. Each reservoir located underground in the deep city was marked with a prominent red dot and an "X" next to it. Then, as if she had just remembered something, her gaze slowly shifted to the massive, operational factory behind her.
The question that had long troubled her was finally answered at this moment, and a grand conspiracy gradually surfaced. "Purified Purple Star can be used as a medical anesthetic, but the unprocessed version is a deadly poison. Just a little bit can kill a person." As another decompressed audio clip played, An Han's expression grew increasingly solemn.
"In the 98th experiment conducted on humans, the subject experienced the horrific symptom of bleeding from all seven orifices after ingesting unpurified Purple Star. The bleeding lasted only one minute before the subject completely lost vital signs..."
"After analysis, the minerals that decomposed into purple star matter have been confirmed to have come from distant outer space. Even more coincidentally, on the day the 'L-Day' event broke out, most of the minerals fell like petals from the sky in the downtown area of Shenzhen City."
"Karl, are you listening?" An Han's voice trembled slightly.
“I’m listening, miss.”
“V Group plans to inject unrefined Purple Star into Shenzhen’s groundwater system—” She bit her lip tightly, unable to imagine the disastrous consequences if they actually did it.
"I need to find some evidence as soon as possible. Contact the police immediately... buzz..."
However, before An Han could finish speaking, a loud static crackled through her earphones, followed by deathly silence. The earphones seemed to have instantly lost all signal, becoming completely silent.
"Damn it!" An Han threw her headphones aside in frustration.
"Now I can only rely on you..." she prayed silently, hoping that the USB drive she brought could copy as much data as possible in the limited time. However, the network here was like a mischievous child, seemingly playing a joke on her, and suddenly went down without warning.
"Click!" A crisp sound broke the silence. Without any warning, a black pistol was cocked. Immediately afterwards, the cold metallic touch pressed against the back of An Han's neck, like a bucket of ice water being poured over her head, instantly freezing her body and stopping her movements abruptly.
"Ms. An, do you think this counts as stealing company secrets?" Donghai's glasses reflected a scarlet light as he took a step forward. His狰狞 (zhengning, meaning ferocious or hideous) face looked particularly terrifying under the light. An Han instinctively shrank back, trying to keep her distance from Donghai, but she had nowhere left to retreat, her back pressed tightly against the wall.
"Secret? You're killing people!" An Han retorted. Fear made her weak all over, but she still said it.
"Silly girl...silly girl, do you really think I'll fall for your tricks? Do you think you can lure me in with just a little bit of your beauty?" Donghai said with a disdainful expression and a cold laugh.
"However, it would be a real shame to kill you so easily. Since you're so eager to understand Zi Xing, then let you experience it for yourself..."
Just then, a long stick suddenly swung towards An Han. An Han couldn't dodge in time, and with a muffled "bang," her vision went black, her consciousness blurred, and her body slumped to the ground.
......
"Well……"
A beam of bright light fell unexpectedly overhead, plunging the surroundings into darkness. The feeling was strikingly similar to the stage where she had performed her last time. An Han endured the sharp pain in the back of her head and struggled to open her eyes. She saw several figures in white coats surrounding her, holding syringes and other medical equipment, their expressions indifferent.
An Han tried to struggle, but was horrified to find that her hands and feet were tightly bound, leaving her no room to move. She cried out in a trembling voice, "Let me go... what do you want?"
However, one of the doctors in white coats merely glanced at her, his tone chillingly calm:
"Don't move, Miss An, it will be over soon."
Like a devil's whisper, An Han's heart sank to the bottom. She realized in despair that this was not a nightmare, but something that was really happening.
At this moment, An Han's mind was filled with the painful experience of when she was seventeen. The indescribable sense of collapse surged into her heart and filled her entire body. She began to regret not heeding Xiao Junyao's advice to her that night.
“Without power, wealth, or even support, you’re no different from an ordinary person now,” the man in the white coat continued, squeezing the anesthetic in his hand. A drop of the anesthetic from the needle landed on An Han’s snow-white forearm. “However, I really didn’t expect you to come to me willingly, Miss An.” The man removed his mask, revealing a face that An Han both knew and loathed—it was Dong Hai.
“Being a hero isn’t something you can do just by wearing a bodysuit and a mask.” He slowly inserted the prepared tranquilizer dart into An Han’s right arm, his eyes gleaming with cruelty as he reveled in the way her face contorted in agony. “Right, fallen angel?”
"I...I will never let you go!" An Han stared intently at Dong Hai with eyes full of hatred and despair, watching helplessly as the anesthetic was slowly injected into her veins. As the anesthetic took effect, her body began to go numb, and her once clear consciousness gradually blurred.
I'm sorry... Peng Fei, I shouldn't have just left you there and ignored you.
She was so terrified that she didn't dare look at the spot where she was about to receive the injection. However, just then, a sudden sound interrupted her thoughts. "Clang, clang—" The sound was like someone being violently knocked to the ground, full of violence and conflict. The sound echoed throughout the space, making An Han's eardrums ache.
Immediately afterwards, a huge hole was smashed through the laboratory door, sending splinters of wood and metal flying everywhere. One of the sharp fragments struck Donghai, who was operating the equipment, catching him off guard and causing him to fall to the ground.
"Who let this woman in?!" an angry voice rang out. These were Donghai's last words before he collapsed. At this moment, An Han had no time to care about anything else; her eyes were filled with the scene before her.
The once pristine white clothes now seemed cursed, stained with a shocking deep red, like blood-red roses bursting open after blooming to their fullest extent, emitting a pungent and eerie aura.
Xiao Junyao stood there quietly, her hands gripping two sharp, gleaming blades. Bright red blood dripped continuously from the tips, forming gruesome pools on the ground. Around her lay the haphazard corpses of those laboratory freaks.
Xiao Junyao slowly walked up to An Han. Her face was still pleasing to the eye, but at this moment, three particularly striking inverted triangle symbols appeared on her face.
Without the slightest hesitation, she raised her hand and gripped the knife hilt tightly. An Han, standing beside her, gasped, her body trembling involuntarily.
"Crack!"
The straps binding An Han's hands and feet snapped instantly. Xiao Junyao quickly pushed aside the equipment blocking the two of them and pulled the immobile An Han into her arms.
"Sleep, it's just a dream," Xiao Junyao murmured softly. Her voice, like a dream, carried a reassuring power, gradually calming An Han's tense emotions. An Han nestled in Xiao Junyao's warm embrace, her eyes growing heavy…
