Boonie Bears: Another World Fantasy

Chapter 63 Death and Rebirth (Part 1)

On the television screen, a scene of the fierce battle that had just taken place in the town was playing. The people and objects in the picture were constantly shaking, making the viewer feel as if they were actually on the battlefield.

"Mr. Wei!" a reporter shouted as he hurried after Wei, who was heading somewhere. They were in the center of a small town that was heavily surrounded by firefighters and armed police.

The reporter caught up with Wei and immediately began the interview. "Regarding today's sudden turn of events, do you think this further proves that V Group's exploration of White Bear Mountain is meaningless? Should your plan be terminated here?"

As the reporter asked her questions, she secretly glanced at the photographer beside her to make sure he hadn't shot the wrong angle. However, Wei glared at her with extreme disgust, as if she had just crawled out of some filthy place.

Faced with Wei's gaze, the reporter hesitated for a moment, but still mustered the courage to nod, indicating her agreement. Before she could speak, Wei interrupted, "But we ultimately succeeded in destroying that white monster, didn't we?"

If he hadn't seen it with his own eyes, he would never have believed that the deer-man named Anar Lefèvre would have the power to bring the "Snow Woman" to him.

But no one knows the secret between them.

The reporter nodded again, about to respond, but Wei interrupted her without giving her a chance, saying, "Since that's the case, then I have nothing more to say." With that, he strode forward without hesitation, leaving the reporter standing there, bewildered.

"What a troublesome time!" he muttered to himself, complaining to his supervisor beside him. Looking at Wei's troubled expression, the supervisor felt a pang of unease. After a moment's hesitation, she cautiously asked, "Boss, about that girl's body..." Her voice trailed off, becoming increasingly uncertain.

Their gazes simultaneously turned to a spot not far away, where a team of medical personnel were carefully lifting Naya's body onto a stretcher. Wei stared quietly at the scene before him, a complex mix of emotions welling up within him.

The supervisor seemed to sense Wei's thoughts and whispered a reminder: "Boss, this is a rare opportunity! If other competitors snatch it away, wouldn't all our previous efforts be wasted?"

The words Lefie had once said flashed through Will's mind. To them, the Deer Clan was like a mysterious, unpredictable time bomb; no one could foresee when or where it would suddenly explode. Thinking of this, Will frowned deeply, lost in thought.

"So far, we haven't received any information about any national agencies getting involved in this matter. If we want to get our hands on her, it shouldn't be too difficult," Wei said to his supervisor, looking at the endless stream of people.

"However, delving into the structure of their bodies is by no means easy." Thinking back to how he had almost lost his life at the hands of this deer-woman not long ago, Wei broke out in a cold sweat. Just how many unknown secrets were hidden within this seemingly petite and delicate body?

"Huh? Is that Dr. Su Luo over there?" The supervisor brushed aside his rain-dampened bangs and pointed to a woman being escorted by soldiers. Her shimmering silver coat was particularly eye-catching.

Wei could hardly believe his eyes; she had actually survived the "Snow Woman's" attack. Without hesitation, he strode forward.

“Dr. Su!” Wei’s voice trembled slightly, filled with concern. He waved vigorously at her, hoping to get her attention.

Su Luo heard someone call her name and couldn't help but look up, glancing around. When she saw Wei's disheveled state, a ripple of emotion stirred within her, and a look of surprise flashed in her eyes, but more than anything, an uncontrollable anger welled up inside her.

"Dr. Su, it's really good that you're alright..." Before Wei could finish speaking, a dark shadow flashed by, followed by a crisp and loud slap.

"Snapped!"

This sudden turn of events caught everyone off guard, and Wei was completely stunned by the slap. His round-rimmed glasses flew away like a kite with a broken string. On his originally pale cheek, a bright red handprint was clearly imprinted, as if mocking his incompetence and cowardice.

At this moment, all around was silent. Everyone was quite frightened by Su Luo's "bold" action, and no one dared to make a sound to break the eerie silence.

"Do you think that by killing me, you can rightfully take what belongs to me?" A mocking smile played on her lips, her eyes filled with utter contempt and disdain. "Unfortunately, reality often doesn't go as planned, and this outcome may greatly disappoint you!"

Su Luo glared at Wei with wide eyes, as if venting all her anger and resentment. She was reminding Wei that despite her predicament, she still possessed considerable power and status.

However, Wei was not angry at Su Luo's behavior; instead, he bowed and smiled obsequiously.

"Dr. Su, please don't be angry. It was all my negligence. The protective measures weren't adequate, which caused you this unnecessary harm..." He apologized like he was coaxing a child, trying to quell Su Luo's anger. It was as if he was never the one in a superior position.

Seeing Su Luo's actions, Xiao Luo couldn't help but worry for her. He felt that Su Luo's behavior was somewhat inconsiderate; after all, there were many people around, and it wouldn't be good if it caused unnecessary trouble. So, he gently nudged Su Luo's arm with his elbow and said in a low voice, "Doctor, there are a lot of people here... you should be mindful of your behavior."

However, Su Luo didn't even turn her head, as if she hadn't heard Xiao Luo's words, and turned to leave. Her steps were firm and decisive, completely disregarding the gazes and whispers of those around her. Seeing this, Xiao Luo shook her head helplessly, but still quickly followed.

"Prepare a car, Xiao Luo, we're going back to Zhenxing Island." Su Luo's voice came coldly, devoid of any emotion. Xiao Luo nodded quickly in response, then hurried to arrange the transportation. He knew that the Doctor was always stubborn, and once he made a decision, it was difficult to change it. As a subordinate, he could only choose to obey.

"Women these days are really not to be trifled with!" Chen Guangming remarked. After dispersing the onlookers and the gathered reporters, he approached Salta and began to strike up a conversation.

"Ha, which one are you talking about?" Salta replied with a laugh, trying to lighten the mood.

However, faced with this desolate and shattered scene, neither of them could manage a smile. At this moment, any words seemed pale and powerless, utterly unable to conceal the heaviness in their hearts.

……

Zhao Lin stood on the steps in front of the house and saw Old Zhao from afar. At that moment, Old Zhao was standing on the windowsill, holding a box in his hand, seemingly growing something inside. Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be aloe vera.

The tabby cat that had been Zhao Lin's companion for years spotted her from afar and immediately trotted over, rubbing against her trouser legs. Zhao Lin picked it up and walked towards the house, calling out worriedly, "Uncle, are you alright?"

"Hey, Xiaolinzi, I'm doing great." Old Zhao remained unchanged, ignoring everything that was happening in the town center.

"Uncle, why are there so many aloe vera plants again? I really can't stand them growing everywhere," Zhao Lin said, frowning.

"I had no choice," Old Zhao admitted helplessly, "but aloe vera is indeed very useful to us."

Zhao Lin looked around at the familiar yet somewhat dilapidated suburban cottage, and a wave of guilt washed over her. She realized she should visit her uncle more often. She squinted, gazing at the crumbling eaves above the corridor.

“The roof beam is a bit damaged,” Zhao Lin said, looking at the supporting beam. “Would you like me to fix it? Maybe I can take a day to get it done. And I have several friends who can help me…”

Old Zhao shook his head and did not respond to Zhao Lin's words.

"Is the friend you're talking about the one who almost turned this place upside down just now?" Old Zhao said in a low voice.

"Huh? No...no..." Zhao Lin realized that Old Zhao might know something, so she replied perfunctorily, clearly puzzled.

“What I mean is, if you keep hiding this, it might not be a good thing for you.” After saying this, Old Zhao took off his gardening gloves and placed them aside. From his anxious expression, Zhao Lin could tell that their casual conversation was over.

"You seem to be involved in something very dangerous right now, Xiaolinzi," Old Zhao said to Zhao Lin with a serious expression.

“They really are just my friends,” Zhao Lin quickly explained. “Don’t worry too much.”

In truth, Zhao Lin knew that calling Sharp and Naya her friends might be a bit of a stretch, but she had been carefully protecting their secret—at least until now, she hadn't revealed it to anyone. At this moment, Zhao Lin suddenly felt that she could trust Sharp.

Old Zhao frowned deeply. When he learned that Zhao Lin might have shared certain aspects of her life with her so-called "friends," he felt no joy whatsoever. Zhao Lin's feelings were understandable; after all, she had almost lost her life because of it.

However, she did not come here today to talk about these things.

"Uncle, there's something I have to tell you."

Her tone was calm and firm, and Lao Zhao instantly understood that what she was about to say was no joke.

"I might have been caught up in a conflict... I... I really don't know who those people are..." Having witnessed Lefie's terrifying destructive power, Zhao Lin was filled with fear and unease. She was extremely worried that the horrible woman would return to this place and continue to cause more destruction and disaster. Moreover, what pained and saddened Zhao Lin even more was that Naya had already died at the hands of these people.

She didn't deserve this ending!

Old Zhao nodded, and said in a somewhat heavy tone, "Are you worried that the truth will come out?"

Zhao Lin shook her head, her eyes firm and determined: "No, I'm not worried about that." Her voice was unusually resolute, as if she wanted to convey this belief to Old Zhao so that he could fully understand her thoughts.

“The truth about her is beautiful. When I first met her, I knew deeply that one day the whole world would see her true self.” She clenched her hands tightly, her brows furrowed, as if an invisible worry was shrouding her heart.

“I’m just worried…” she hesitated, but then mustered her courage to continue, “I’m just worried they’ll portray her as a bad person.” A hint of sadness lingered in her voice. She knew all too well the complexities and treacherous nature of humanity; those with ulterior motives might use any means to distort the facts and defame Naya. As a journalist, she understood this possibility all too well, for she simply couldn’t bear to see that beautiful young woman suffer such an injustice.

"I think you can try to change those people's minds." Old Zhao's face showed satisfaction because Zhao Lin finally chose to tell him the truth.

"You probably know best what kind of person your friend is, right?"

"Uncle, what do you mean by that?" She stared intently at Old Zhao, as if she had gained some kind of enlightenment from him.

“Sometimes, a compelling story is far more persuasive than a good reputation.” With that, he tossed the remaining aloe vera into the flowerpot, a smile spreading across his face.
