Boonie Bears: Another World Fantasy
Chapter 31 The Return of the Fallen Angel (Part 2)
The rain came at an inopportune time.
At night, a light drizzle fell on the entrance of a uniquely decorated shop. The brightly lit sign read "New Generation" in large characters.
It's easy to see that this is a magnificent private art gallery. Just from the high-end tiles on the walls, you can tell how much money the owner has spent.
But Peng Fei didn't come here to appreciate these exquisite works of art. Besides, he couldn't understand them anyway.
He closed the umbrella and politely shook the wind chimes hanging on the glass door.
The mysterious woman, who had met him just a few days earlier and claimed to be a museum guide, appeared before him.
She wore a long robe resembling an animal skin coat and long earrings. She seemed somewhat surprised that the visitor was Peng Fei.
"Please come in, Mr. Peng Fei."
The slightly hoarse voice made him feel that this person had a complicated background.
Peng Fei folded his umbrella and stepped into the place, which was filled with a retro atmosphere.
"Sorry to bother you so late," he said politely, while glancing around.
"There's no such thing as treating guests without waiting them," the woman said, seemingly unconcerned. "It's my fault for not writing the exact time on my business card..."
In other words, she didn't expect anyone to come at all.
"Don't you find it strange? You invited Miss An Han, but I'm the one who came."
"I know that this small and insignificant shop is probably not worth the attention of most people, right?"
She said this with self-deprecation. Then she led Peng Fei to the reception room.
Along the way, he saw countless paintings of deer: oil paintings, detailed sketches, black and white decorative paintings, prints…
Among them, the huge oil painting hanging on the wall of the reception room is particularly eye-catching. The deer in the frame are arranged in a huge circle, surrounding the golden antlers in the visual center. It forms a stunning spectacle.
"You really like deer."
Peng Fei sighed.
“The deer symbolizes power and longevity, and it also brings me good luck.” She noticed Peng Fei’s gaze lingering on the oil painting for a moment, and then explained.
"Nevertheless, the deer people, who regarded deer as gods, still disappeared." He didn't think this was a joke, but rather based on fact.
Upon hearing this, the woman's eyes dimmed slightly, though only for a moment.
“Mr. Peng Fei, let’s get back to business,” she said quietly as she sat down on the sofa opposite him.
“Okay.” He clapped his hands solemnly. Then, as if suddenly remembering something, he said:
"It's rather impolite of me, but I haven't even heard of your name yet."
"My surname is Xiao, Xiao Junyao."
Junyao... Junyao...
What a great name.
"What important matter is Miss Xiao referring to?" That's why Peng Fei asked. From the beginning, he had only come here out of curiosity.
"There were some things I originally wanted to discuss with Miss Anhan in person..."
Xiao Junyao paused, deliberately creating suspense.
"It's a pity you came in her place."
"What?"
The atmosphere became somewhat awkward, and Peng Fei was puzzled by her true purpose. Before he could get any answers, a violent tremor came from his jacket pocket.
It was An Han calling.
Taking advantage of the moment, he gestured to Xiao Junyao that he needed to attend to some personal matters first.
She nodded in agreement.
Upon reaching the corner of the reception area, Peng Fei eagerly answered the phone.
"Hey, where have you been these past few days?" he asked anxiously. "You didn't answer my calls."
On the other side, An Han seemed unsure how to answer the question and chose to avoid it altogether.
"Peng Fei, can you come out?"
Her tone was somewhat dejected. Now it sounded more like a plea.
"W-what's wrong?"
"I... have something to tell you."
Peng Fei looked at Xiao Junyao, who was sitting in the waiting room, with a dilemma. At the same time, the latter smiled at him.
Why at this time?
"I'm... a bit tied up right now." His tone betrayed his predicament.
"How about tomorrow?"
"No, I'm coming to find you now."
"..."
"Xiao Han?"
After saying that, she didn't give Peng Fei any more chances to say anything and hung up the phone domineeringly.
"Really." He sighed, racking his brains for a solution.
Now, it would be too easy for An Han to find him, but Peng Fei was worried that, given her personality, she might see him with a woman she had never met before at this hour...
This will likely cause unnecessary trouble again.
Peng Fei felt a chill run down his spine when he recalled Zhao Lin's interview last time.
"Mr. Peng Fei, what happened?"
Xiao Junyao stood up as well. She looked at him with a complicated expression and asked with concern.
"No...nothing."
He pretended nothing had happened and gave a perfunctory reply.
Little did she know that she had overheard the entire conversation.
"If Miss An Han is coming, I can explain our relationship to you."
His previous perfunctory attitude now seemed so ridiculous. Peng Fei felt like a book that could be read at any time in front of her, with absolutely no pretense left.
Since she's already said that, what reason do I have to refuse?
"Sorry for dragging you into this."
On the other hand, Xiao Junyao seemed to be enjoying herself.
"She's so possessive of you, don't you think about why?"
"It's not that simple. Besides, things aren't what you think between us."
Whenever someone tries to "match" them together without permission, Peng Fei always uses this phrase to shut that person up.
"It sounds like you're running away from this relationship."
"not at all."
His tone betrayed his refusal.
Having been rebuffed, Xiao Junyao wisely shut her mouth.
……
A few minutes later, a silver Lamborghini pulled up in the residential area opposite the art gallery, its glaring headlights piercing the shadows. The luxurious car looked completely out of place in this inexpensive neighborhood.
The rain lessened a bit, and Peng Fei waded through the puddles to the low-slung sports car.
An Han rolled down the car window, gesturing for him to get in.
"Xiao Han, someone wants to see you. Could you give me some time?"
"Who?" she asked, looking at him.
Peng Fei pointed to the art gallery behind him. Her gaze passed over Peng Fei and landed on Xiao Junyao, who was wrapped in a coat and standing in a warm yellow light.
"If it's another reporter, don't expect me to waste these few minutes."
“No, not this time.” He shook his head.
"She said she used to be the company's finance manager..."
In an instant, An Han's expression changed drastically.
......
Compared to the shrewd and resourceful Xiao Junyao, An Han seemed quite difficult to deal with.
"It will only take a few minutes of your time, Miss An."
They stood at the entrance of the art museum and, using the light emanating from inside, began a brief exchange.
"you are?"
She frowned, not remembering ever seeing this person before.
The woman before him exuded an indescribable aura of danger, as if she were always ready to grip a knife tightly in her hand. Her eyes were sharp as a hawk's, making it impossible for anyone to meet her gaze.
“We’ve met before, but you were young then,” she said softly, her tone so calm it was almost frightening.
“Your father often brought you to my office,” she continued, seemingly recalling the past vividly.
An Han tried hard to search her memory for anything about this woman, but to no avail.
"I... I really don't remember." An Han shook her head helplessly.
"It's alright, it's fine if you forget." Xiao Junyao's lips curled up slightly, revealing a forgiving smile. Then, she raised her head and gazed at the night sky, which was as black as ink.
"Three hours from now, Miss An, what do you think is the likelihood that you will successfully seize the Purple Star sample this time?" Xiao Junyao's words were casual, yet the destructive power they contained was enough to shock people.
Faced with this sudden question, An Han was secretly shocked. Her eyes widened, her face filled with astonishment: "?!"
How did she know about this? Her plans had been kept very secret; could there have been an information leak?
Countless questions flooded her mind, and An Han felt her previously flawless plan instantly disrupted. At this moment, she had to re-examine the entire situation and devise a countermeasure.
Before she could even react with shock, she tried her best to calm herself down.
"The chairman's meaning is very clear." She slowly approached An Han, bringing her a heavy sense of pressure.
"As long as you can handle your own responsibilities properly, you don't need to worry about anything else, and the sunset will still belong to you."
At this moment, Xiao Junyao's body cast a dark shadow, completely enveloping An Han.
"However, if you are willing to ruin the future of Sunset just because of a trivial sense of justice in your heart, then you will probably have to say goodbye to your comfortable life now."
After hearing these words, An Han couldn't help but clench her fists.
“What if I insist on doing things my own way?” she replied firmly.
A bitter smile with a hidden meaning appeared on the other person's face.
Why be so stubborn and make things difficult for yourself?
Xiao Junyao seemed to instantly transform into a different person, ruthlessly tearing off her mask of pretense to reveal her true self.
"This was just a well-intentioned reminder; you can simply ignore it, Miss Anhan."
"So you were working for Yu Lian!" An Han suddenly realized, and only then did she realize that she was now in a helpless situation.
Before receiving a reply, the electronic receiver in the bag received an encrypted message from Carl.
The two noticed the tiny movement almost simultaneously.
"Let me guess, the handover of Zixing was brought forward by two hours and forty minutes?" Xiao Junyao's lips curled slightly as she observed An Han's reaction with great interest, as if she were watching a wonderful performance. She liked this feeling; manipulating other people's emotions brought her unparalleled pleasure.
"You have fifteen minutes to make your choice." Xiao Junyao's words carried an unmistakable threat.
After a moment of silence, An Han murmured to herself, "...So this is what it feels like to be manipulated like a puppet..."
Time ticked by, each second like a sharp sword piercing An Han's heart. There was no time left to think—
She frowned deeply, closed her eyes in anguish, and couldn't bear to face the reality before her.
Just then, thunder suddenly rumbled from the horizon, as if even the heavens were cheering on this farce. The thunder grew louder and louder, until it was deafening.
"Do you choose to stay here with your boyfriend and pretend nothing happened; or..." Xiao Junyao deliberately dragged out the words, wanting to see how An Han would choose.
"If you dare to touch him, I will never let you go!" An Han finally couldn't bear it any longer. She suddenly opened her eyes and stared at Xiao Junyao with a fierce and resolute look in her eyes. Her eyes seemed to want to devour Xiao Junyao alive.
Before she finished speaking, An Han turned and rushed into the torrential rain without hesitation. Her figure gradually disappeared into the distance.
......
The rain poured down harder and harder, as if it would drown the whole world. Peng Fei, who was standing not far away and silently observing everything, keenly noticed the subtle change in An Han's expression.
"Xiao Han, what did she say to you?" Peng Fei asked with concern, instinctively reaching out to hold up his umbrella to shield her from the wind and rain. However, to his surprise, An Han suddenly grabbed his hand forcefully, instantly pulling the umbrella to the ground.
“Huh?!”
Caught off guard, Peng Fei couldn't help but gasp. Immediately afterward, An Han pounced on him, tightly embracing his neck, and using that strength, unhesitatingly offered him a passionate kiss.
Peng Fei tried to struggle and resist, but An Han was too strong, making it difficult for him to break free. The icy rain relentlessly soaked her hair, making her appear incredibly fragile, delicate, and vulnerable. Yet, this seemingly fragile body resolutely shouldered a heavy responsibility...
The sound of rain gradually faded, as if it too was moved by this deep affection.
A moment later, their foreheads gently touched, their breaths mingling. An Han's fingers lightly stroked Peng Fei's cheek, her eyes filled with endless longing and reluctance.
If only time could slow down a little!
She tried her best to imprint this feeling deeply in her palm.
"Wait for me... Peng Fei," An Han murmured softly, her gentle tone like a spring breeze, intoxicating all who heard it.
After he finished speaking, he only heard the sound of the Lamborghini starting up. The car, with a bright red light trailing behind it, disappeared into the rain.
