Boonie Bears: Another World Fantasy
Chapter 11 The City of Sunset (Part 2)
Peng Fei awkwardly made his way through the crowd, watching the speaker on stage delivering his rousing speech. This uncomfortable feeling had persisted all night.
Although I tried my best to stop thinking about it, I would still catch a glimpse of her out of the corner of my eye every time.
Zhao Lin was standing in the corner of the hall, explaining something to the young female photographer next to her.
The interview will take place after the opening speech, and it's obvious why An Han insisted on bringing him along.
Sure enough, the worst thing that was ever feared finally happened.
At this moment, An Han, who had been standing to the side, noticed Peng Fei's unusual behavior and followed closely behind.
"What happened?" she asked, full of suspicion.
Peng Fei's eyes darted around, and his subtle expression seemed particularly awkward and strange to her.
However, only she knew the reason behind it.
"Just wait for me outside."
An Han pointed towards the door of the hall, trying to distract him in this way.
Unfortunately, Peng Fei didn't listen to a word she said; at that moment, he was truly concerned about something else entirely. What action would An Han take? Undoubtedly, this interview would devolve into a silent power struggle between the two, and his concerns were far from unfounded.
"Don't make things difficult for her..." he said, as if pleading for Zhao Lin's life.
Now that things have come to this, continuing to run away is pointless.
"What do you think I'll do to her?" She stared straight ahead, her tone completely different from before. A cold and oppressive atmosphere once again filled the space between them.
The stalemate lasted for a while before being broken by a man in a suit who jogged over. He whispered something in An Han's ear, causing her to glance thoughtfully at the exhibition hall on the left side of the lobby.
She nodded, and the man in the suit also made a "please" gesture.
An Han deliberately paused as she passed Peng Fei, noticing that the glass, which was only a third full, had been shoved into her hand.
"Don't get involved in this," she whispered.
She then left with the man.
Peng Fei sighed heavily and poured the rest of his drink into the trash can. There was nothing he could do. He feared that if this conflict escalated, it would provoke Sunset's retaliation, after all, Sunset had countless hands supporting it. The words An Han had spoken to him in the office that day remained etched in his memory.
"If she reports on things that have nothing to do with her again, I'll make her disappear completely..."
Madman, what a madman.
Zhao Lin will not give up until she finds suitable evidence.
Do we really have to go head-to-head...?
Peng Fei craned his neck, watching the direction they had just left in, and quietly followed them through the crowded streets.
……
The room, which had been prepared in advance, was so quiet that you could hear a pin drop.
Zhao Lin and Xiao Ke were making final preparations for the interview.
"Sister Lin, do you really want to ask that?"
Looking at the few general directions for questions listed on the draft paper, Xiao Ke was a little worried. But Zhao Lin seemed determined to steer the topic in a sensitive direction.
"just in case……"
"You mean, what if we mess up the interview, right?"
Xiao Ke's concerns were valid. Zhao Lin didn't know how the other party would react when she asked these questions, but she was already mentally prepared.
“We’re doing something no other newspaper dares to do, Xiao Ke,” Zhao Lin said with a bitter smile. “My impulsive behavior today has nothing to do with you, so if anything goes wrong, I’ll take full responsibility…”
"Why go to such lengths?" Xiao Ke was somewhat puzzled, because in her view, provoking these powerful people was like throwing an egg against a rock—a point of no return. Journalism, by its very nature, requires a certain amount of courage and boldness.
Is this why she became the top reporter at the daily newspaper...?
The room door suddenly opened, and the "special guest" had already arrived.
"Reporter Zhao, I'm sorry to have kept you waiting—" An Han said with a smile, looking like she had arrived late.
"Miss An Han, I am very grateful for taking time out of your busy schedule to receive you." Zhao Lin said politely, smiling as she went to greet her.
For some reason, Xiao Ke, who was completely unaware of the feud between the two, sensed a strong tension between them.
The room used for the interviews unknowingly transformed into a powder keg about to explode.
"let's start."
An Han sat opposite Zhao Lin and spoke calmly.
After setting up the camera, Xiao Ke nodded to the two of them.
A showdown has begun—
......
In the quiet forest, a mist-like vapor swirls around the dome formed by giant trees, stretching as far as the eye can see.
A fallen, dead tree stretches across the entire cliff, forming the only bridge that can be crossed. Fortunately, the tree is wide enough for two people to walk side by side.
Naya, who was walking ahead, gently picked a stem-like plant that grew in the crack like a long umbrella and shook it toward the ground. The plant's leaves then opened up like a fan.
"It might rain later." She handed the "umbrella" to Sharp and picked another flower for herself.
"How did you know?" Sharp took it with a hint of disbelief.
“A feeling.” She blinked her big, playful eyes, her long eyelashes fluttering.
"With so many trees here, so densely packed, how could the rain possibly get down?"
Sharp looked incredulous; he was exhausted and really didn't want to carry such a cumbersome thing.
Naya's eyes seemed to be saying: Really don't want to?
……
"Drip, drip, drip—"
Although it was just raindrops, the slaps against my face still felt like a hard slap. Sharp stood there with his hands in his pockets, looking sullen and stubborn, while Naya, who was slowly following behind him, seemed quite relaxed.
He kicked at the puddles, revealing his helplessness. His hair, which hadn't been washed in a long time, was soaking wet, looking like a tangled clump of seaweed stuck to his head.
Suddenly, the relentless raindrops that had been pelting me disappeared, replaced by a vibrant green reflection.
A beautiful deer-woman appeared beside him without his noticing, holding an umbrella to shield him from the falling raindrops.
Sharp pouted arrogantly, and his body involuntarily moved a little closer to her.
“This is completely unreasonable,” he muttered.
Passing through the forest of giant trees, a pond emitting a faint glow came into view. Water plants leaped high above the surface, forming a natural barrier.
But this was no challenge for her at all.
Naya breathed softly on the lantern-shaped flower beside the pond, and the flower generously opened its petals, revealing its radiant stamen, like a small sun.
The flaky objects in the pond were instantly drawn to the light, gradually converging to form a path leading into the depths of the water. At that moment, the water was the night sky, and the bright spots within it were stars adorning the heavens.
The forest was so dreamlike that it reminded Sharp of the fairyland described in the Peach Blossom Spring.
Although we don't know much about the outside world yet, the vast and complex ecosystem here is enough to amaze the world.
Watching Naya's lonely and petite figure stroll to the center of the pond, the question came to Sharp's lips again.
In this forest's long and slow time system, didn't she ever think about leaving this place on her own initiative...?
Even just talking to someone from outside would be nice...
