Bloody Kyoto
Chapter 12 Heavy Rain, Chaos at the City Gate
The old beggar slowly strolled back into the dilapidated temple and found that the children were all sitting obediently together, and they hadn't touched the soup in the pot.
Upon seeing his grandfather, Xiao Huzi went to greet him, glanced behind him, and looked a little disappointed.
"Grandpa, has my sister left?"
"Yeah, I'm leaving. I'm going on a long trip and probably won't be coming back."
Little Tiger looked outside, his eyes filled with disappointment.
The old beggar walked inside. "Why aren't you drinking the soup?"
"Wait for Grandpa!" the little beggars grinned and said in unison.
The old beggar reached out and patted each of their heads. "Good boy, now that Grandpa's back, you can eat."
"Yay! We can have bone broth now."
Six days later, at dawn, a group of high-ranking officials and nobles gathered at the city gate of the capital, including the men of the Fu family and Princess Ahui.
Everyone was gazing ahead, where the fog had not yet lifted.
After waiting for a while, the sun had not yet risen when a torrential downpour began, and the group of nobles hurriedly scrambled into their carriages.
Meanwhile, about ten miles away from the capital, a group of horsemen were frantically grabbing raincoats to put on.
A middle-aged man dismounted, put on a raincoat, walked to a carriage, lifted the curtain slightly, and said to the person inside, "Father, the rain is too heavy, I can't even open my eyes. Let's wait here until the rain gets a little lighter before we go."
Inside sat an elderly man, who appeared to be around sixty years old, with remarkably bright eyes.
He looked serious, waved his hand, and asked the people outside the car to move aside. He peeked out and looked around. A moment later, his expression changed drastically.
The middle-aged man naturally noticed the change in his expression and couldn't help but ask with concern, "Father, is something wrong?"
The old man didn't reply, but instead lowered the curtain, blocking the middle-aged man's view.
He held three round walnuts in one hand, his eyes unfocused, staring at a certain spot.
A moment later, he opened the curtain again. The middle-aged man was still outside. He gave him instructions in a stern tone.
“Cheng’er, after the rain stops, return to the clan territory immediately and tell your uncle that the capital is shrouded in blood and your father cannot tell what caused it.”
Upon hearing this, the middle-aged man's face changed drastically. He grabbed the carriage frame and said, "Father, let's go back together."
The old man shook his head. "Father can't go back. Ah Hui is still in the capital."
The middle-aged man immediately lowered his head. "Father, can you tell me exactly what happened in the capital?"
"Father doesn't know. If he did, he wouldn't have sent you back to tell your uncle."
The middle-aged man's mind raced for a moment. "Dad, could it be related to the message Ah Hui sent?"
"Possibly, but not certain." The old man's eyes were full of contemplation. Even if it were true, so what? People from other worlds just have a few more abilities.
With the princes and nobles in the capital and the Yun family, it's impossible for them to let that otherworldly person cause too much trouble.
Huo Yuanxia is a prime example. Even with divine power and healing abilities, she was still destroyed by them.
"Father, please be careful. I will rush back to the clan territory and try to get my uncle to leave the clan and come to the capital."
The old man nodded. "Be careful on the road!"
While they were resting here, the city gate was thrown into complete chaos by a torrential downpour.
"Master, son..."
"Something terrible has happened! Our young master has been kidnapped by something!" A servant-like man ran around anxiously in the rain.
The other guards and servants did not get into the carriage, but stood in the rain.
Although they couldn't hear what the young man was saying, they knew something was wrong from his actions.
A guard from the same household stepped forward to inquire, and upon learning what had happened to his young master, his expression changed, and he immediately went to inform the head of the family.
Li Weidong, the head of the Li family, had just changed his clothes and was about to have his hair dried when he saw the coachman looking flustered and opening the carriage curtain without regard for etiquette.
"What are you doing! Don't you know the rules?" the Li family head shouted.
"Master, something terrible has happened! The eldest young master has gone missing!"
Because of the heavy rain, the Li family head didn't hear what he said clearly for a moment, and was about to scold him again.
The coachman, disregarding all rules, once again shouted from the depths of his lungs, "The young master is missing! What has taken him away?"
Upon hearing this, the head of the Li family paused for a moment, then grabbed the coachman by the collar, "Say it again, what happened to Zong'er?"
The coachman's eyes were so wet from the heavy rain that he could barely open them. He said again with his eyes closed, "The young master's servant said that the young master has been taken away by something."
The head of the Li family flung the driver aside, ignoring the rain, jumped off the carriage, and went to find his eldest son's servant.
When they found Little Si, he was kneeling in the rain and crying.
He stepped forward, grabbed Xiao Si, and roared, "Explain yourself! What grabbed you and where did it go?"
Xiao Si was already shocked and frightened by the loss of his young master, but when the head of the Li family grabbed him like that, he was so scared that he wet himself.
Fortunately, it was raining heavily, so there was no smell.
Despite his fear, he still recounted the events in a trembling voice.
"After the heavy rain, I helped the young master to take shelter from the rain under the city wall, but there were too many people and we were pushed apart."
The servant searched desperately for the young master and finally found him not far from the official road.
Just as I was about to run over, I saw that the young master's body was suddenly tripped by something.
Then it was as if the young master was being dragged away by something.
As the rain subsided, the head of the Li family felt as if his heart was being squeezed tightly. He mentally went through what the servant had said.
Thinking of the maid who died after being impaled by vines at the entrance of the Fu family home, he swayed.
Seeing that the rain had lessened, many of the people who had just hidden inside the carriage poked their heads out. He immediately ordered the guards beside him, "Organize a team to find Zong'er right away."
After giving his instructions, he walked toward the most luxurious carriage in the entire venue.
This carriage belongs to the Grand Princess Zhu Yulin, who is fifty-eight years old and the current emperor's elder sister.
"Your humble servant Li Weidong greets the princess."
The old woman lifted the curtain and saw inside. The Grand Princess squinted at Li Weidong.
"I already know about your son's situation. Lord Li, there's no need to be too anxious. It was raining heavily just now, so even if your son was captured, he couldn't have gone far."
The Grand Princess gave the nanny a look, and the nanny poked her head out and called out, "Commander Zhang, the Princess has some instructions."
Upon hearing this, the commander of the guards from the Grand Princess's residence, who was standing by the carriage, came over.
"Take some men and help the Li family find the eldest son of the Li family."
"Yes, I will obey your orders!"
After expressing his gratitude, Li Weidong left. Seeing that the Grand Princess had sent people, other families and officials also sent many people to search for her.
Princess Hui and the Fu family were all uneasy, feeling that the disappearance of the Li family's young master might be the same person who killed the maid.
In the distance, the sound of carriage wheels turning could be heard, and several misty shadows gradually became clearer.
When everyone saw the white cloud flag on the back of the person riding at the front, no matter how powerful or influential they were, they all dismounted and went to greet him.
Their mannerisms and actions were as obsequious as could be.
