Welcome to the Misogyny Game
Chapter 3 This is not the otome game I wanted
A truck loaded with cement ran a red light, skidded, and crashed into the wall of a coffee shop, leaving a huge hole in it.
The driver fainted on the spot, and blood was streaming down his head where he had been hit.
The overturned cement truck pinned the man down, leaving him with absolutely no way to escape.
Upon hearing the commotion, Smile felt a cool breeze as the person ran out quickly, his hair disheveled from the rapid movement.
Hu Qiao was also startled. The two newlyweds, who hit it off immediately, ran out as well. Before running out, Hu Qiao finally remembered that she had a roommate inside. She told the man to go check on her first, while she went to find Smile herself.
Outside the shop window, she saw Smile. She and another refined-looking man were standing in front of the wrecked vehicle, and together with kind passersby, they opened the driver's side door.
"One, two, three, four!" Smile's eyes widened, and he instinctively grabbed the arm of the person next to him, shouting, "The car is going to explode! Run!"
With a bang, the shockwave propelled the two of them away, thick smoke billowing over the entire vehicle, and a clown-like, comical laugh rang in her ears.
"Life is an explosion, boom! Hahahaha."
The beeping ambulance arrived late, carrying the siren of a siren; someone at the scene had extensive burns.
On the other side of the wall that was destroyed by the truck, someone was screaming loudly.
Smile was covered in sweat; her new clothes had been burned with a large hole, revealing some charred skin underneath.
The pain made her dizzy, and before she closed her eyes, she saw the man's anxious gaze.
When she opened her eyes again, all she saw was pure white. She was lying on the bed, next to a beautiful bunch of sunflowers.
"you're awake?"
Smile wanted to turn her head, but the pain in her back made her gasp.
"No need to turn around." It was the man from the coffee shop. In the disinfectant-filled ward, the man in the hospital gown was peeling his third apple, which was already oxidized.
"Thank you for saving my life. If it weren't for your reminder and help, I might have perished in the fire."
The man smiled and said that almost being on the verge of death hadn't changed his mindset much. He peeled the fruit, cut it into bite-sized pieces, and handed them to her with toothpicks.
"To repay your help, I will pay your medical expenses for the next few days."
"Where is the driver?" Smile felt like she had suffered an undeserved misfortune and almost became a level one disabled person.
"They were burned to death and can't be saved," the man said regretfully.
Smile felt a pang of sorrow. A living person had vanished before their very eyes, and even if they offered a helping hand, they might be consumed by the disaster themselves.
A soft, rapid friction sound interrupted Smile's reverie as she pondered.
The man extended his hand, slightly raising his knuckles, and handed her a piece of paper. Smile looked up and saw a string of numbers and a name: Liancheng.
"What beautiful handwriting," she thought.
"I forgot to introduce myself. I'm a professional photographer. This is my phone number. If you feel unwell, feel free to contact me anytime. After all..." He blinked, the beauty mark at the corner of his eye bobbing with his movement, his peach blossom eyes shimmering. "You're my little benefactor. I have no way to repay you, so I can only come whenever you call."
Smile said helplessly, "You don't need to go to all this. Just pay my medical bills, and my friends will take care of the rest. Besides, you can avoid it even without my help." She recalled the scene and felt like the heroine in a novel who was moved to tears and made the wrong decision.
"No way, I'm a delicate photographer." She winked as she spoke, smiling sweetly.
“Take your camera with you when you speak,” Smile said.
The oppressive atmosphere in the ward was gone, and she revealed a genuine smile.
"Little Smile, you're awake." A head popped out from the hospital entrance; it was Hu Qiaoyi, who should have been on a blind date.
However, there was a car accident there. Even if you get along well with your blind date, you should put it on hold at this time, especially since your friend who came with you was injured.
"How are you feeling now? Do you want some water? You have no idea how worried I was when I heard you had an accident. Thank goodness you woke up, otherwise I would have felt so guilty..." She kept chattering away like a machine gun.
Liu Chaoque seriously suspected that the game was padding the word count, so he quickly skipped ahead and arrived at Liancheng's voice message: "Do you want to watch some TV, or do you want to sleep a little longer?"
smile shook her head: "I'm not sleepy at all right now, and I'm not interested in watching TV."
"Then let's eat something."
Smile shook her head again.
Seeing that she seemed uninterested, the two said they would go out first and call them if they needed anything.
This time, Smile actually said it was good.
After the ward door closed, the girl lying on the bed covered her face. The silent voice message showed her inner turmoil: "Two murders in just a few days, and both of them happened to me. The last one was my neighbor, and this time I was injured."
She suspected that she was being targeted; too many unexpected events had occurred, so they were no longer unexpected.
The screen suddenly went black, revealing a gaunt old woman with bloodshot eyes. Her deep, aged laughter echoed from the screen, so chilling and evil that it sent shivers down one's spine.
Liu Chaoque huddled under the covers, his eyes wide open, forgetting to move.
When the image returned to normal, she realized she was covered in a cold sweat.
She held her phone face down, afraid that something scary might crawl out of it.
*Snap* The light was turned on. Liu Chaoque stared at the white wall in front of her for a long time before finally opening her phone, exiting with one click, opening a chat app, and frantically calling her best friend.
Liu Chaoque: "Have you really read the latest storyline of this game?"
After 10 minutes.
Wang Qige: "I've seen it. The female lead encounters another case. I don't know why, even though it's supposed to be an otome game, every male lead she encounters is involved in various cases. Can love really develop from this?"
Liu Chaoque: "Forget about love, did you see the black screen and the withered old woman?"
Wang Qige: "What old lady? Chao Que, did you click on some weird video?"
Liu Chaoque: "Then tell me, what is the last plot point in the latest storyline?"
Wang Qige: "It's probably that the female lead and the male lead exchanged names and agreed that the male lead would take a picture of her next time."
Liu Chaoque: "I am not at all. Although we exchanged names, after the female lead's friend came over, she said a lot of things. Later, when the male lead asked her what she wanted to do, the female lead refused. In the end, she was left alone sitting on the hospital bed, and that's when I saw that withered old lady."
The two reviewed each other's choices, and Wang Qige reopened the game following Liu Chaoque's decision. Another ten minutes or so passed.
Ding dong, Wang Qige replied: "No, I didn't see the old lady. Damn, how weird. I didn't even refuse the male lead's question, and I watched TV with them. On TV, we saw the follow-up report of the car accident."
Liu Chaoque: "What is it?"
Wang Qige: "Let me see. Due to the truck driver's fatigue and the coal tank leak, a secondary explosion occurred, resulting in five deaths, three serious injuries, and one minor injury..."
Five minutes passed.
Wang Qige: "Are you already asleep?"
Liu Chaoque: "No, I think this game is addictive. I'd better uninstall it. It's not otome at all, and it's even a bit scary."
Wang Qige: "Okay, you can uninstall it. Let's play another game. If this one isn't fun, we'll switch to the next one." She didn't ask why her attitude had become so firm, but she respected every decision she made.
Liu Chaoque: "Well then, goodnight."
Wang Qige: "Goodnight."
The chat interface remained frozen on that last sentence. Liu Chaoque sat quietly for a long time until her body felt slightly cool and she felt sleepy again. Only then did she suddenly wake up. Her complicated thoughts returned to calm as she looked down. She forced a smile and left the chat interface, directly clicking on the game.
The note above was written by the male protagonist: "If you want to know what happens next, you can also call this number, Liu Chaoque..."
