Farming in the Magical World

Chapter 62 The Enemy Approaches the Castle

After everyone had eaten and drunk their fill, they lay on the ground snoring. Only then did Nechka emerge from the shadows, take out his own rations, and eat a few mouthfuls with the water from his leather bag.

His feelings toward the tribe were very complex, a mixture of attachment and resentment.

He was born in a tribe, the place where he grew up, but he never received warmth from that place.

He was often bullied as a child, simply because his father was thin and weak and not good at hunting.

After his father and mother passed away one after another, he was bullied even more because he was an orphan and had no one to help him when he was bullied.

After he injured his leg while hunting and became lame, even the village children could bully him, specifically targeting his injured leg to kick. Later, the adults gradually found this to be quite interesting and started to imitate him.

This time, all the men of the tribe went down the mountain to plunder. He was not supposed to participate. According to custom, he would stay in the tribe to take care of the elderly, women and children. After all, who would want their teammate to be a lame and weak person?

Unexpectedly, Albert, who came from who-knows-where, heard that he had a good eye and insisted on taking him along.

He originally thought that since the team needed him, his situation would improve, but he soon realized that he was wrong. These people beat him even more severely, simply because he could ride a horse while they could only walk.

If he hadn't been unable to survive alone in the dangerous Grumman Mountains, he might have left the tribe and gone off to live among wild animals.

He thought this before he fell asleep!

 …

Unlike the relaxed atmosphere of Petrov and his group, the atmosphere in the castle had become tense.

Half an hour ago, the hunters sent out returned with more detailed information.

They learned that the other side had more than sixty people, which was no different from when they encountered Zhuilong Ridge a few months ago, except that there were a few more horses.

"Are you sure they've settled down by the river?" Lanny asked the panting hunter again, confirming.

The hunter was a middle-aged man who rarely had the opportunity to speak in front of nobles. He was visibly nervous, his voice trembling, but he spoke with great certainty about the information he had gathered.

“When I returned to report the news, they had indeed lit a fire by the river, roasted something on the fire, and then went to sleep.”

"What's wrong? You suspect they'll attack at night?" Tim was a little puzzled by Lanny's caution. "They wouldn't be that stupid as to attack at night; what would they do with their horses' legs?"

Lanny disagreed with Tim's optimism, frowning as he said, "But don't forget, they don't have many horses, and their main fighting force isn't knights!"

Looking up at the sky outside the study, Lanny stood up. "We can't wait any longer. We must move the people of Hexi Village into the castle immediately. Frank, Frank..."

Watching Lanny's departing figure, Tim curled his lip in disapproval. He still didn't quite understand why Lanny cared so much about those civilians.

However, since he had mentioned what the "project" was for, he couldn't really refute it. Anyway, the backyard was big enough to accommodate all these people, so he didn't care.

That night, Lanny was busy until very late, moving hundreds of people from Hexi Village and Hedong Village to the backyard square and settling them in, which took a lot of time.

When he returned to the room, he found Tiffany asleep on the dressing table.

"Wake up, wake up, go to bed!"

As Lenny gently patted her, Tiffany rubbed her eyes and looked up. Seeing it was Lenny, she prepared to get up. "You're back? Want some midnight snack? I'll go prepare it!"

Lenny pressed down on her shoulder. "No need, no need, I'm not hungry either. I'll wash up and go to sleep right away."

"Then I'll go get you some water, Candy's already asleep!"

This time, Lanny didn't stop her. Instead, he waited for Tiffany to leave before slumping down in the spot where Tiffany had been sitting and drifting off to sleep.

"Wake up, wash your face, and go to bed." This time, it was Tiffany who called out to her.

With something on her mind, Lanny was still quite alert despite being tired. Tiffany gently patted her, and she immediately woke up. Just as she was about to wash her face, she found that Tiffany had already placed the basin at her feet and handed her a washed towel.

“Next time, you can go straight to sleep. I might be busy even later.” Lanny took the towel, wiped himself, and handed it to Tiffany, who was squatting on the ground with a beaming smile.

Tiffany took the towel, washed herself, picked up Lanny's dusty coat, and carried the basin of water out of the room.

When she returned to the room, she thought Lanny was already asleep, but he was sitting there in a daze and hadn't fallen asleep.

"Why aren't you asleep?" Tiffany gently sat down next to Lanny, leaning tenderly on his shoulder. "Are you still worried about those Grummans?"

Lanny didn't want to answer, but looking at the pretty face so close to hers on his shoulder, he couldn't bear to lie to her, so he nodded.

However, worried that she might frighten Tiffany, she quickly added, "Don't worry, the villagers have all moved into the backyard, the guards have been arranged to patrol, and there are even guards at the backyard gate. We've done everything we can, there shouldn't be any problems!"

"Then what are you still anxious about?" Tiffany did not show the fear he expected. Instead, she reached out her small hand and gently stroked Lanny's furrowed brows, as if trying to smooth them out.

"It's the first time, so it's inevitable to be nervous!" Lanny shrugged. "Just like our first time... you know... weren't you nervous at all!"

Tiffany chuckled and patted her husband gently, saying coquettishly, "How can you say that? You're so naughty!"

As the two spent more time together, Tiffany became less embarrassed by her husband's occasional playful teasing, and sometimes even felt a subtle joy in it!

Tiffany thought her husband was joking, but little did she know that Lannic was not joking at all. The battle that was about to take place would indeed be the first real battle he had ever experienced, whether in this life or the previous one.

"Alright, I'm not teasing you anymore, go to sleep!" Lanny suddenly stood up and grabbed Tiffany.

Suddenly suspended in mid-air, Tiffany gasped in fright, "Ah..."

 …

The next day, Lanny was still fast asleep when he was awakened by a commotion.

The noise came from the backyard, which turned out to be because after a crowded night, it was impossible for hundreds of people not to go to the toilet. The guards at the backyard gate did not dare to let them leave without Lanny's orders.

The villagers didn't dare to make a loud noise, but they also dared not relieve themselves in Lanny's castle backyard. Seeing that one of the team members looked tough and not someone to mess with, they all went to find another one who was thinner.

"Tommy, let's take care of this quietly up ahead. We won't alert Master Lanny, so please let us pass."

"Yes, yes, the child is almost bursting to pee. If he pees in the master's yard, the master will probably scold him!"

"Tommy, I watched you grow up, would I ever harm you?"

The crowd erupted in a cacophony of voices, and Tommy, looking troubled, said, "But, Lord Lanny didn't give the order, I..."

"Alright Tommy, let anyone who needs to use the restroom go. Also, tell the kitchen to cook some porridge for everyone; we'll just make do for today," Lanny's voice came from behind them.

He appeared at the backyard gate, still sleepy, tidying his clothes. He hadn't even properly tidied his clothes in his haste to come down, probably because he was worried about a conflict between the villagers and the guards.

Upon hearing Lanny's voice, the two team members instinctively stood at attention, turned around and saluted, before waving for the people surrounding them to leave.

Lanny turned aside, letting the person who urgently needed to use the toilet leave, before walking in front of the crowd and telling the kneeling villagers to get up.

At this moment, an old man walked out from the crowd, trembling, and asked Lanny with a bit of courage, "Sir, when can we go home? We're worried about our families since we left so suddenly!"

This question broke the silence in the courtyard, and the murmurs among the people instantly grew louder.

"Yes, yes!"

"The crops at home still need irrigation; if it's too late, it will affect the harvest!"

Seeing the anxiety on everyone's faces, Lanny pressed his hands down and said loudly.

"I know everyone is anxious, and I understand!"

"However, it's very dangerous outside right now. The Grummans could arrive at any moment. Everyone, please be patient!"

"These next few days may be tough for everyone. Have some porridge for breakfast first, and once we've driven the Grummans away, you can all go home!"

"But the crops at home can't be delayed..." An old farmer, upon hearing that it would be delayed for another two days, immediately pounded his chest in frustration, and a chorus of anxious voices rose around him.

Lanny looked at the villagers and genuinely understood them, but he still needed to offer some advice.

"Everyone, please be quiet and listen to me."

"The crops may be delayed, but there's still a chance to make up for it later. However, if we let you leave now and you get killed by the Grummans, then we'll have nothing left!"

"Think about it, isn't that how it is?"

"As long as we can drive these Grummans away, the castle will organize people to help everyone. You must trust me!"

"I promise!"

Hearing Lanny's assurance, everyone felt a little relieved, but some of the old people still worried about their family affairs and kept muttering to themselves, which Lanny pretended not to hear.

Lenny then instructed Tommy to have the kitchen prepare breakfast for everyone before leaving.

He had to go to the camp to check on things. Although Tim had moved in there last night to make it easier to arrange defenses, he was still a little worried.

As we walked through the castle toward the guard's camp, everyone we encountered was hurrying along, their faces grim. Even Candy, the carefree little maid, was running around frantically, seemingly busy with something. The entire castle was in a state of chaos.

When he arrived at the camp, he found that it was much more orderly, thanks in no small part to the discipline training.

Tim had already gotten up and was standing in the square wearing his tattered armor. Seeing him approach, he simply nodded and began instructing those around him, "Don't panic, don't make a rash move. Remember your squads, three people per combat team. Wait for the enemy to get close to the barricades, then fire in sequence. Remember, don't fire all at once, understand?"

The team members surrounding them shouted in unison, "Listen carefully!"

Although everyone still looked uneasy, their spirits were high! Lanny nodded in approval, feeling even more confident in their ability to resist the Grummans.

"Remember your respective combat positions and don't run around! Shield bearers, stand in the first row! Watch out for arrows, and remember to duck when you start shooting."

"Everyone, listen to my command and take your positions according to your pre-assigned battle locations!"
