Mo Bei sighed as he looked at his own condition.
"Just as I thought. I've dropped from the advanced beginner level to the intermediate level of magic."
He suppressed the spasms in his body, his abdomen radiating cold air, and the magical power of his source leaking out, threatening to collapse and become unstable at any moment.
Mo Bei huddled in the corner, groaning and gritting his teeth as he endured the pain.
"Hmph, who told you to be so stubborn? With your current physical condition, how could you possibly unleash such powerful magic?"
A kind female voice came from behind. Mo Bei heard footsteps and was startled. He turned around despite the pain.
“Fei…Fei’er, your mentor”
Mo Bei frowned, forced himself to stand up, his body trembling and his forehead covered in sweat.
"You're just being stubborn. You've endured it for three years. Can't you just hold back a little longer? Once you make a move, the consequences will be dire. Given your current situation, the Magic Guild will definitely come after you. I've worked hard for three years to keep you away from the guild, but you... you're really trying to drive me crazy."
Eiffel spoke with a hint of melancholy, yet her tone was filled with tenderness and warmth.
"Oh," Mo Bei calmed down. Thinking about it, it was no wonder that the former master trusted Mentor Fei'er so much.
"Thank you for your kindness, mentor. I've endured this for three years and I can't take it anymore. As for the Magic Guild's visit, I'll just take this opportunity to do some quests to prepare for my future advancement to Grand Magician."
Mo Bei snapped out of his daze and fully accepted this body and his past memories. He let out a muffled groan; the extreme pain in his abdomen made his voice slightly low, but looking at the beautiful woman in front of him, he couldn't bear to keep her worried, so he could only tease her.
But as Eiffel spoke, Mo Bei instantly unlocked a memory—a memory about the Magic Guild.
Many people confuse magic guilds with magic churches. In fact, magic guilds, also known as magic associations, are civilian forces established by various factions. They are set up to maintain current sovereignty and to select talented magicians to join the sect.
However, entering the Magic Association means losing one's freedom. Only by completing the tasks required to join a sect can one gradually enter that sect. But those tasks have gradually become mandatory.
Unlike the Magic Association, the Magic Church belongs to a different religious sect. For any magician, the ultimate goal in life is to enter the church and join its ranks.
"What time is it, and you're still in the mood for jokes?"
Eiffel glared at Mo Bei, her delicate fingers outstretched, revealing two emerald green leaves in her palm. The leaves were sword-shaped, and a life force flowed within them.
"Here you go. Eat one first, and the rest is a gift for you."
Eiffel said nonchalantly.
Mo Bei's eyes widened when he saw the two leaves, each the size of a fingernail. These two leaves were incredibly valuable, hard to buy even with money, and the life energy within them could save lives.
"The leaves of the Tree of Life are too precious. I'm afraid I can't repay you even if I accept them," Mo Bei muttered.
Eiffel was furious. Her long, flowing hair cascaded down her back, and her large eyes glared angrily. With a soft snort, she stuffed two leaves into Mo Bei's palm.
"Who wants you to pay me back? Your life isn't even worth a single leaf. Take it or leave it."
Eiffel stormed off in a huff, taking quick, short steps away, her brow furrowed with anger. She couldn't be bothered to pay any more attention to Mo Bei, who had infuriated her for no reason.
“Thank you very much”
Mo Bei whispered, but Yi Ren had already walked far away and could not hear him.
"Grumpy"
Mo Bei swallowed hard, picked up a leaf from the Tree of Life from his palm, and put it in his mouth. He chewed it with his two rows of silver teeth, and a sweet, tender juice flowed down his throat and into his stomach.
"Wow"
A large amount of life force flowed through his limbs and bones, and a vortex of energy spun above his head, stirring up the demonic energy from beyond the heavens and pouring it into his body.
"This kindness is too precious; I will definitely repay it if I have the chance."
Mo Bei murmured a few words to himself before closing his eyes. He meditated on the power beyond nature, and a flame gradually manifested in his chest. Then, the demonic energy from the outside world was absorbed into his body and refined in a short time.
"The leaves that grow on the Tree of Life are truly miraculous."
A quarter of an hour later, Mo Bei opened his eyes. He felt completely relaxed, and the pain had disappeared. However, his magical realm had dropped by one level, stopping at the intermediate level of a beginner mage.
"Sigh, whatever, if this keeps up, I'm going to die. The most important thing is to deal with my illness. I might as well skip work today."
Mo Bei's face was beaming with a smile, his mind racing. Given his usual personality, he would never have dared to do such a thing, but he was about to die, so he couldn't care less about anything else.
"Ring, oh ring, my life and fortune depend on you, so please don't let me down."
Looking at the empty playground, Mo Bei took a step and walked towards the library.
Mo Bei returned to the library. Looking at the towering bookshelves filling the room, he once again became engrossed in reading.
For the entire day, Mo Bei stayed in the library, engrossed in reading. Fortunately, the library was usually deserted, otherwise he would have been terrified.
Throughout the day, until evening, Mo Bei looked through three more bookshelves, nearly 30,000 ancient books—it was simply inhuman.
Even at this pace, Mo Bei still felt it was too slow. Compared to the entire library, a mere 30,000 books were simply insignificant.
In the end, Mo Bei simply stole a magic broom from the academy, took a step and mounted the broom, using his fingers to guide the magic, and a circle of ancient books, more than ten in total, surrounded him in the air.
"That's more like it. Reading them one by one is too slow."
Mo Bei chuckled foolishly, and a dozen books hovered in mid-air around him, stopping at his waist. With a gentle tap of his magic wand, all the books turned a page at the same time.
"I refuse to believe that after reading millions of books, I still can't find a way to cure myself."
Mo Bei was determined to prove himself, still arguing with the ancient book. His hateful expression even had a touch of foolishness.
"Haha!" Mo Bei laughed loudly.
This instantly increased his reading speed once again. Normally, he could finish an ancient book in one breath, but now he could finish more than a dozen ancient books in three breaths. With the help of magic, as soon as he finished reading a book, he would wave his magic wand and the ancient books would go back to their respective homes, thus increasing his reading speed exponentially.
As soon as he looked around, the library was filled with flying books. With a flick of his magic, tens of thousands of books floated in mid-air on bookshelves dozens of feet high, waiting for him to come and observe them.
Once a book is finished, it automatically flies back to the shelf, and then another book flies in from mid-air to fill the gap, one after another.
In just three or four hours, Mo Bei had finished reading thirteen bookshelves. Adding the ones he had already read, he had read a staggering 170,000 to 180,000 ancient books.
As darkness fell, Mo Bei paid no heed, deciding to stay in the academy library that night, burying himself in his studies.
Several more hours passed, and Mo Bei looked at more than a dozen bookshelves again.
His legs were numb from riding on the broom. He had been reading ancient books for more than ten hours a day. Even as a magician, his body was already exhausted.
Mo Bei simply changed his posture, lay down on the broom, propped up two ancient books behind his head, and started reading again. If the other mentors knew about this perseverance, they would probably be deeply moved.
Late at night, as the air grew cooler, Mo Bei, having been reading for a long time, felt dizzy and his eyelids drooped with sleep. He had already read more than 500,000 books, originally planning to finish them in 100 days, but he had only read half of them in a single day.
He was exhausted, and looking at the books flying in the air, his eyes could no longer muster any energy.
After one last struggle, he could no longer hold on and finally fell into a deep sleep.
The moment he fell asleep, the tens of thousands of books hanging in mid-air seemed to lose their magic and all fell down with a whoosh.
So many books piled up into a small mountain when they landed, burying Mo Bei's entire body in the sea of books. Perhaps he was too tired, because even a foot-thick stack of books couldn't wake him up.
And so, Mo Bei drifted off into a dream.
"Where am I? Who am I?"
Mo Bei walked for a long time in the dimly lit space.
He remembered that he was clearly asleep, yet he was still so awake.
"Is this a dream? It's too real."
Mo Bei touched his face and could still smell the sweat emanating from his body.
"That is"
Mo Bei looked around and saw pages of books floating in the air. Magical patterns were inscribed on the pages.
One after another, there were about ten pages, and the patterns on each page were almost identical, as if they were originally the same pattern.
But he knew that these pages were pieced together from different books, which was very strange.
"Wow"
A golden light shone brightly, and more than a dozen pages emitted a blinding glow. Mo Bei waved his hand to shield his eyes, and the next moment he was stunned.
The dozen or so pages shimmered with golden light, as if they were connected to form a painting, from which he could clearly sense an ancient pattern.
Suddenly, the dozen or so pages transformed into an ancient book in the golden light.
The ancient book's cover was simple and dark, exuding a heavy and profound aura, all because it was engraved with a jet-black rune. This rune itself gleamed with a blood-red light, making it look extremely terrifying.
"how so."
Mo Bei reached out and picked up the ancient book floating in the air. Upon seeing the large characters on the book, his breathing instantly became rapid.
"The Symphony of Fire"
Mo Bei's pupils dilated, and memories churned in his mind. Even if he were a fool, he would know that this book was actually a meditation method, and an ancient one at that.
"Am I really dreaming?!"
Mo Bei opened the book, and the illustrations exuded a great deal of ancient charm. The meditative images stirred up waves in his heart, and he took a few steps back, quite frightened.
"An ancient and terrifying meditation method. Could it be that this meditation method was intentionally dismantled and hidden in the Austin School of Magic library?"
Mo Bei was repeatedly surprised. If the book were opened as a single page, there would be nothing unusual about it, but when a dozen or so pages were pieced together, the shocking scene was enough to scare a person to death.
"Could this ring also be a magical artifact?"
Mo Bei thought of something, looked down at her finger, but the ring on her hand had disappeared, vanished inexplicably.
"Am I really dreaming? And it feels so real."
Mo Bei sighed softly. The dark space was devoid of any light, except for the book in his hand, which emitted a soft, shimmering glow.
"chi"
Suddenly, Mo Bei looked directly ahead and saw a tiny hole through which sunlight refracted. Startled, Mo Bei quickly walked over.
As I approached, I heard the sound of flowing water, a rushing sound. Thinking about it, the water was so fast that there must be a small river ahead.
"Hoo"
Mo Bei strode out of the cave. Outside, the sun was shining brightly, and a courtyard about ten feet long and ten feet wide appeared.
In the center of the courtyard was a small, round pond, and in the center of the pond, a lotus flower was blooming with colorful fluorescent light.
"It really was a dream. I was so happy for nothing. I can tell by this bunch of lotus flowers." Mo Bei chuckled foolishly.
The lotus leaves were enormous; each leaf emitted a delicate fragrance and was about the size of a person.
"There's enough room for a person to sit down; everything in the dream is magnified."
Mo Bei said casually, but as soon as he said that, a flash of inspiration struck him, and he seemed to grasp something. He suddenly leaped onto the large lotus leaf.
The huge leaf trembled, and Mo Bei lost his balance, slipped, and landed hard on his bottom on the smooth green leaf. Strangely, the lotus leaf was unharmed, only swaying up and down.
"Finally, this is getting a little interesting."
Mo Bei smiled and placed the book in his hand on the lotus leaf in front of him. Then he sat cross-legged and studied the magic patterns on "The Symphony of Fire".
"Indeed, the meditation method on it is incredible. If I continue to cultivate it, my magic power will increase exponentially. When the magic source is full, it will rush to the meridians of my body. Then I will definitely advance to the level of intermediate mage in a short time, or even return to the peak magic power."
Mo Bei's hands trembled. With his previous strength, he would have long been a high-level mage, but due to his physical illness, his magical source gradually became unstable, causing him to slowly decline.
"Why don't we give it a try!"
Mo Bei stroked his chin, his eyes darting around. With his eyes closed, the magical wellspring within him surged, causing every pore on his body to open up.
He sat cross-legged, practicing the meditation technique from the "Symphony of Fire," starting with the first pattern, and uttering incantations.
"Boom".
Five divine lights burst forth from the lotus leaf, enveloping Mo Bei. At this moment, Mo Bei's body trembled. The surrounding magic power was too dense, causing the magic source to spin and refine at an extremely rapid speed.
Drops of magical energy poured into his body, filling the parched magical spring. From the inside of his body, Mo Bei's meridians were connected to the magical spring, but many meridians were blocked again, and some meridians had lost their smoothness, with a faint current running through them.
"what happened"
Mo Bei clearly saw lightning power coursing through his meridians, which then became even drier and more blocked.
"Could the illness in my body be caused by that unawakened lightning-type constitution?"
Mo Bei shivered suddenly, carefully recalling the words and patterns on the more than 500,000 ancient books in his mind. After a long time, his face suddenly darkened, and he realized everything.
"Their constitutions clash. I awakened my lightning element later in life, and my fire element is too strong. Lightning is another type of offensive constitution, and my body needs a long time to adapt. Currently, the two powers are unbalanced, and my body is rejecting them."
Mo Bei practiced meditation, his mind becoming active.
In Mo Bei's memory, this world recorded many powerful dual-elemental mages, which is why he never doubted that there was something wrong with his own physique.
The clash between lightning and fire is a once-in-a-millennium event, long forgotten by many mages. Mo Bei, of course, was unaware that he possessed a lightning-based constitution. The clash between fire and lightning caused his body to collapse, leading to his death in despair.
"Luckily I had the ring, otherwise I wouldn't even know how I died."
Mo Bei sighed, finally figuring out the reason. But having solved one problem, an even bigger one was about to arise.
"The most urgent task is to replenish the magic power in the magic fountain to counter the lightning element. I have an ancient meditation method that should be able to hold out for a while. I will finish reading the million-book collection this morning and see if there is a solution."
After a moment's thought, Mo Bei focused his attention on meditation.
The magical fountain was boiling, and Mo Bei was constantly refining the rich magical power. When his mind was focused on the magical fountain, he instantly lost his composure.
"I...I...damn."
Mo Bei stared blankly at the once-dry magic spring. Upon closer inspection, the magic spring was no longer dry.
"Pervert!"
Mo Bei was overjoyed. As a magician, he naturally knew how difficult it was to refine magic power. Some people could not even reach the level of a novice magician in their entire lives.
"It seems that I do have the potential to become a magician. With this ancient ring and after solving my physical problems, it's time to take a good look at this world."
Looking at the source of magic, his will to live gradually strengthened.
Mo Bei stopped practicing the meditation technique, stood up, and leaped into the courtyard.
In this world, the first step to becoming a magician is to be tested for magical physique.
Common magical constitutions include: metal, wood, water, fire, earth, light, and darkness—seven major elements.
The variant properties are: wind, lightning, ice, and undead.
