Adorable Kids in Space: Lucky Wife is So Carefree
Chapter 22: The space can be freely entered and exited.
When Ruxiu returned home after fetching water for her second aunt, her eldest brother and brother Dayuan had also arrived, along with her sister-in-law, Wei, and their three children. The eldest son, Lin, was fifteen, and the second son, Wenge, was twelve. The original owner knew them both; her sister-in-law had raised them well, and both children greeted her politely. Having studied with their grandfather since childhood, they were already students at the county school. Lin and the other boy were on leave; Lin would be taking the county-level imperial examination next year.
"Hello, Dudu!"
"Oh, is this our little sweetie? She's so cute! Auntie wants a hug." Sweetie is only two years old, with a round face and round eyes. She's incredibly adorable and not shy at all. She reached out her little hands for a hug.
"She can't stay at home with Grandpa, she has to come with her two older brothers." Ru Xiu carried Xiao Tiantian and walked around the front and back of Wei's house. Seeing that Ru Xiu's family didn't look too bad, Wei was relieved.
Knowing that her family members had come over early in the morning to help with chores, Ruxiu specially cooked pork porridge with pork belly, steamed buns, and added an egg for each of the children.
After dinner, Sister Shi took Little Sweetie and Ge'er to play, and Madam Gao followed along, worried about them. Brother Lin, Brother Wen, and Brother Xi chatted for a while, then went with their father and Uncle Dayuan to build the wall, with Brother Le following along happily.
"I pulled up some vegetable seedlings in the dark this morning. I have to plant them right away, or they'll wilt." Mrs. Wei just couldn't stop; she had to get to work immediately.
"And these two hens have started laying eggs, so we won't need to buy any more eggs." He then deftly helped Ruxiu to the chicken coop. The original owner of this body didn't even visit such good family members; no wonder she lived such a difficult life.
While helping Ruxiu hoe the ground in the backyard, he scolded her, "Your parents have been regretting marrying you into this family for the past few years. My eyes are almost blind from crying. How can you be so useless, not even coming home? If you had said so earlier, your brother and I would have come and torn down the Tang family's house."
“Your father was a scholar! Even if we went directly to the county government, he would have to think twice. Your brother said you were good at studying when you were young, but you're not so bright.”
"Last night, Dad got your pot of medicine and was so happy that he drank several mouthfuls. This morning he said his leg didn't hurt as much. I think he's just happy that his daughter has broken off her marriage. When do you have time to go back and visit him?" Ruxiu knew that the spiritual spring water had worked. She hadn't seen her cheap father for several years, so she definitely wanted to see him, but she would have to wait until Xige was fully recovered.
Wei was straightforward and capable; her eldest brother and she were the ones who held the fort at home. Gao's personality wasn't much better than the original owner's; she just married the right person and found the right daughter-in-law.
"Do Brother Lin and Brother Wen help with farm work at home?" Judging from their constantly moving hands, they must be working regularly.
“Of course, we don’t support idlers. What use is someone who doesn’t work hard, doesn’t know the five grains, and doesn’t know the six domestic animals?” Wei’s educational philosophy was clearly different from the ancient saying that “a gentleman does not enter the kitchen,” which suited Ru Xiu’s taste very well.
The straw was brought by my eldest brother from my mother's home. There was a lot of yellow mud left over from when we were building the kitchen. My two sons helped chop the straw and mix it into a paste. My eldest brother and Da Yuan also worked very quickly, and by lunchtime they had finished more than half of it.
"Let's go take a look at the seven acres of mountain land we were allocated yesterday. We can plant some crops there. I heard from Brother Le that there's a small pond up there." Brother Dayuan was also very enthusiastic. He had watched Ruxiu grow up and wanted to help if he could.
After the meal, apart from Brother Xi, the whole group headed up the mountain in a grand procession. Anyone who didn't know better would have thought something had happened.
All the firewood has been chopped, and the dry weather makes it less heavy. We can haul it all back the day after tomorrow. Finally, we should dig up the tree roots for another day or two before burning them directly.
"I'll come over in a few days to help you plow the land. You need to turn the ashes from the fire into the ground so you'll have enough fertilizer next year."
The children were overjoyed to see the little pond. Lin, Wen, and Le took off their shoes and waded in the water. Ge'er was also eager to try, but in the end, she could only sit on a rock and wash her hands, looking quite unwilling. Seeing her brothers having fun, Little Tiantian excitedly kicked her little legs in Tan Jiaqiang's arms.
We can plant some fruit trees on the mountain, as well as some sweet potatoes, soybeans, and potatoes. Sorghum is a drought-resistant and heat-resistant crop, so it should be good too. The two older brothers' opinions are similar to Ruxiu's. However, if we use pool water mixed with spiritual spring water for irrigation, it's not impossible to grow other crops.
At noon, Ruxiu and her second aunt prepared the dough and chopped the meat. After going down the mountain, they continued to build the remaining walls. The others made big meat buns together. The children missed the taste of the big meat buns and had been talking about them for days. It was a good opportunity to have some fun together.
With plenty of ingredients prepared, several large pots were steamed. After eating and drinking to their hearts' content, Ruxiu packed two large portions, one for her father, one for Dayuan, and a dozen or so for her own family.
Shi Jie and Ge'er both wanted to keep Xiao Tiantian, but Wei Shi was worried about her because she was too young. On the contrary, Xiao Tiantian didn't see her grandmother for a day and made a fuss, pulling Gao Shi back. Ru Xiu didn't try to stop her. Her adoptive father was in poor health and had a very good relationship with Gao Shi. They definitely couldn't be separated for too long. The journey back was long, so after they finished eating, they were sent on their way.
"Starting tomorrow, Auntie won't be coming over for meals anymore. Ge'er, you have to go see Auntie, otherwise she'll miss you." Seeing that the family had settled down, Auntie felt she had achieved her goal. There was a lot of gossip in the village, and she was afraid it would affect Ruxiu's family's life.
"Why? Auntie, isn't it good for our family to eat together?" The children were used to Auntie's presence and treated her as part of their own family.
"We need to take care of those few plots of land for a while. Auntie will come over when she has time." Auntie has been staying at Ruxiu's house every day, so she hasn't had time to do her own things for a long time.
"Then I'll go to the fields with you tomorrow." Auntie has helped so much, Ruxiu should help with this little bit of work too, otherwise she wouldn't feel right about it.
With the nourishment of the spiritual spring water during this period, Ru Xiu felt that her body had greatly improved. However, compared with her healthy physique when she could casually play badminton for an hour or two in her previous life, the difference was not small. Ru Xiu noticed that her second aunt's back was no longer bent and she was much more energetic.
"Second Aunt, I'm going too! I'm going too!"
"Oh, I'll help you plant some vegetables."
The three little ones all insisted on helping out. Sister Shi and Brother Le had done a lot of work before and could be considered half a laborer.
The dozen or so bundles of firewood that the uncles brought back were all taken to the second aunt's house by Ruxiu.
Today, Ruxiu planted several vegetable patches. She felt that the space might change, so while it was still early, she hid in her room and used her mind to measure it. She found that the space had indeed grown larger, and she finally had land about the same size as the two plots in the backyard. Seeing the space expand, Ruxiu silently said, "I want to go in." To her surprise, she could actually enter the space. This surprised Ruxiu greatly. Even if the land was not much, it could still solve many problems if used properly. It was much better than having nothing at all.
Tomorrow I'm going to work on my second aunt's land. I'll also see what I can transplant into my space to plant. We shouldn't waste the land. If we can make some money from the crops and livestock in my space, life will be much better.
