Adorable Kids in Space: Lucky Wife is So Carefree

Chapter 21 The Mother's Family Has Arrived.

Ru Xiu simply went to West Street. The seasonings at home had been almost used up in the past few days, so she naturally needed to replenish them. She also picked out twenty eggs.

"Le'er, do you want to eat something before going back?" The wonton stall they passed was steaming with delicious aroma, and Ru Xiu didn't want her child to go hungry.

"No, it's still early. I've eaten two steamed buns and I'm not hungry yet. We have so many leftovers at home, let's eat them when we get back! But could you buy Ge'er a skewer of candied hawthorns? She used to cry when she saw Sister Xin eating them." Le Ge is so loving at such a young age. Of course, we had to buy some, but we couldn't leave out the other three. We bought four skewers of candied hawthorns. Le Ge wasn't in a hurry to eat them. He said he wanted to go back and eat them with his older brothers, sisters, and cousins. His mouth was practically watering.

I arrived home on the first oxcart ride just before noon, and the gate was immediately opened.

"You're back! You're back!"

"Xiuer, are you starving? We knew you'd be back early. We've heated up the food, come wash your hands and sit down."

"Brother Le, hurry, hurry, hurry!"

Who are these people? I've already formed a prejudice.

Ru Xiu was completely bewildered; she hadn't gone to the wrong door!

"My dear Xiu'er, don't you even recognize your mother anymore?" The eldest brother, who was in his thirties, took the things from Ru Xiu's hands. A woman who was nearly fifty years old, with the same oval face as Ru Xiu, looked at her with pity and hugged her tightly, sobbing uncontrollably, as if she would lose her if she let go even slightly.

"My poor Xiu'er, how could you not send a message home after such a terrible thing happened? What if... your mother will never see you again?" The original owner's tears streamed down her face. Wasn't it really true that she would never see him again? If Ru Xiu hadn't transmigrated, this mother would have been heartbroken to see her child die before her own!

"Mother... Mother..." Everything was understood without words.

"Alright, alright, Ruxiu's mother, Ruxiu is still hungry. Sit down and have a meal together, then you can have some sweet moments." Second Aunt saw the two of them crying endlessly, which also made the eldest brother-in-law and the child next to them tear up, so she quickly reminded them.

Ru Xiu helped her nominal mother, Gao Shi, to sit down. Shi Jie, being sensible, found a cloth to wipe her grandmother's face. Gao Shi was still sobbing softly. The original owner's personality must have been like hers, delicate and weak, always crying.

“We just heard about your relationship with Xige last night. Mother was making a scene last night and came over. Father and I had a hard time persuading her to stay. If Father hadn’t been in so much pain in his leg, he would have come too. We only found out about yesterday’s housewarming party when we arrived today,” said the eldest brother, Tan Jiaqiang, in a low voice, sighing.

What the heck? The original owner's memories came in segments.

It was only then that Ru Xiu slowly learned about the original owner's family: her father, Tan Fengyun, was indeed a down-on-his-luck scholar. Years ago, he had injured his leg in a run-in and his family was poor, so he was unable to continue his studies. He couldn't do farm work either, so he could only run a private school at home and take in a few students from the village. The students from the village would only study for a few months and learn a few characters before running away. The tuition fee was just a symbolic few dozen catties of grain. In addition, scholars could get a 20-catty reduction in land tax. He only had two children, Tan Jiaqiang and Tan Ru Xiu, so he was still able to make ends meet.

Back then, by chance, Ru Xiu was drawn to Tang Ershi because he was honest, hardworking, and from a well-off family, which is why she married him. However, she didn't really get to know the Tang family elders. The original owner suffered quite a bit of mistreatment from Jiang Shi after marrying into the family, but with Tang Ershi protecting her and her family providing occasional assistance, she wasn't exactly lacking in food and clothing.

Since Tang Ershi went to serve in the army three years ago, the original owner and her children have suffered all kinds of bullying. Her dowry money was also taken away by Jiang. She was afraid that her family would worry and did not complain. Jiang also prevented her from returning to her family home. Her eldest brother, Tang Jiaqiang, came several times, but was deceived by Jiang and Zhang in a two-faced manner. The things he brought never reached Ruxiu's hands. After Tang Ershi died, things became even worse. Jiang even went to the Tan family and cursed them as "husband-killers and spendthrifts". After that, the two families basically cut off all contact.

The hardships that the original owner and her children endured over the past three years were recounted by her second aunt and the children. Gao felt like dying, regretting that she hadn't taken the family of five back with her, which almost resulted in her not seeing her daughter and nephew again.

Finally, he held his second aunt's hand again, expressing his deepest gratitude for her constant care.

Gao has been crying all day and night. After dinner, Ruxiu helped her to Shijie's bed to get a good night's sleep, otherwise Ruxiu was worried that her body couldn't take it.

"I've built a fence for the back plot of land with firewood, so the chickens and ducks can't get in. Tomorrow, I'll ask your sister-in-law to come and help you plant some vegetable patches, so you won't have to worry about vegetables anymore. I'll also build you a chicken coop later; it's not good to keep bringing the chickens home at night and having them raised by others all the time." The eldest brother had always cared deeply for his only sister since she was little, patiently instructing her on everything. He truly was like a father to his eldest brother, meticulous and thoughtful. Ru Xiu was deeply moved.

"Tomorrow I'll call Brother Dayuan (the original owner's cousin) to come over and raise the wall by two feet, otherwise people can still climb over it." These were all things Ruxiu wanted to do, and her brother-in-law arranged them all.

Knowing that the original owner's father's legs had not been well for years, Ru Xiu took advantage of her elder brother's time to repair the chicken coop, casually put in a few blood-nourishing herbs, added spiritual spring water to boil, and filled a large pot for her elder brother to take back to their father to drink.

I went to the village entrance and bought two jin of pork and a bag of sugar cakes to take back to my eldest brother for his three nephews. Speaking of which, I haven't met the youngest one, Ruxiu, yet, and I don't even know what she looks like.

When the eldest brother was about to leave, Tang Shi was still unconscious. Ru Xiu couldn't bear to see her make the trip, so she asked her brother to let her stay for a few days. When she offered him meat and sweet cakes, her brother refused to accept them, insisting on leaving them for his nephews. He then took the medicine pot, drove off in the oxcart.

When Gao got up, it was almost dark. She was happy to stay at her daughter's house. Ruxiu gave her half a bowl of spiritual spring water, which made her feel much better. She hugged Ge'er and called her "my heart, my liver, my flesh." The older children were also very close to their grandmother, especially Shijie and Xige, who still had some memory of their grandmother.

Now everyone is busy setting the dining table in the west room for Xige, and they're still eating yesterday's leftovers. Ruxiu has also made five eggs, added minced meat, and steamed them into a savory egg dish. Ge'er is eating it with great relish, taking bites from her grandmother and bites from her mother. Xige can now eat by himself and doesn't need to be fed anymore. Second Auntie, seeing that the family is rarely together, naturally wants to say a lot of heartwarming things, so she didn't come over for dinner. Ruxiu set aside some food and asked Sister Shi to take it over.

"Mom, I got out of bed and walked a few steps today, and I feel much better."

"That's good. Tomorrow, after your uncle comes and raises the wall, you can walk around the yard after he closes the gate."

"Really? Can we go now, big brother?"

"That's wonderful, big brother! Mother bought a lot of books today, so we can start learning to read together tomorrow."

"Ge'er is also studying with Da Dede." The happiest person after her older brother recovered was Sister Shi, who was crying and laughing at the same time.

"Do you still remember everything your father taught you? You used to be very serious when you wrote, but your older brother was not. He was very naughty and always took you to raid bird nests." Seeing the children happy, Madam Gao was in a much better mood. She chatted on and on about Xiu'er from back then. Xiu'er really felt very happy, after all, she had received a mother's love that took two lifetimes to earn.

"Oh dear! I forgot about the candied hawthorns." Le Ge slapped his head in annoyance and quickly found them. Each of them got a skewer. Ge'er fed her grandma, Le Ge fed his mother, and Xi Ge ate one and left the rest for Ge'er. Shi Jie left two for Le Ge, but Le Ge frowned and said they were too sour and didn't want them. Only then did Shi Jie happily finish them. Ge'er saved the ones Xi Ge gave her for tomorrow and asked her grandma to put them high up so that ants wouldn't crawl on them. These days were so joyful.
