Online Game: Unrivaled Gods
Chapter 2 Virtual Bracelet
Huang Yi complained, clearly dissatisfied with Sun Rui's earlier disregard.
Sun Rui just stood there blankly, without refuting anything.
A short while later, Huang Yi finished venting her frustrations and didn't say anything more. Huang Yi herself knew that it was normal for Sun Rui not to help her earlier, because people usually choose to protect themselves. Besides, Sun Rui did help her in the end, although it was under the condition of being tempted.
Thinking about this made Huang Yi's teeth itch with hatred. She wasn't bad-looking, was she? Others would be heroes rescuing damsels in distress, but for her, it was like a transaction.
.
"Give me the 5000 you mentioned. I'm going home."
Just as Huang Yi was secretly angry, Sun Rui used sign language to ask Huang Yi for payment.
After receiving the feedback from the virtual terminal, Huang Yi felt a surge of frustration. She kicked a pebble on the ground with one small foot, looking very unhappy.
"Okay, okay, do you think I'd renege on my debt?"
As Huang Yi spoke impatiently, she reached into her pocket. Halfway through her delicate white hand, her expression froze, her displeasure turning into embarrassment.
"Um, I used my money to buy a virtual bracelet, and I'm out of cash. Give me your account number and I'll transfer the money to you tomorrow."
Huang Yi said awkwardly, her eyes darting left and right, as if there was something interesting on the wall of the alley that she could never get tired of looking at.
Sun Rui looked distrustful and didn't make any gestures, which angered Huang Yi.
Huang Yi felt her self-esteem was humiliated, so she took out a ring from her pocket and threw it at Sun Rui.
Sun Rui saw something fly over and hurriedly caught it.
After catching the ring, Sun Rui looked at Huang Yi with a questioning gaze, clearly wanting an explanation.
"This virtual game bracelet is an entry item for 'Global Hope.' You should know that each bracelet costs 8000, so consider this your payment."
Huang Yi answered Sun Rui's question in an annoyed tone, glaring at him defiantly as if to say, "You got off easy, kid."
"I know this, but why are you giving it to me? I don't play games, and besides, I don't have time to play games. Playing games doesn't pay, and I need money."
Upon hearing Huang Yi's explanation, Sun Rui became very excited, gesturing wildly. However, he wasn't happy but angry. Sun Rui felt that Huang Yi was fooling him because he knew that "Global Hope" didn't have many buyers, was risky, and most importantly, wasn't profitable.
"you!"
Upon seeing Sun Rui's sign language and facial expressions, Huang Yi became furious, her face turning red. She raised her small foot and stomped on Sun Rui's foot. Still feeling unsatisfied, she spun Sun Rui's foot around a couple more times.
After Huang Yi stomped on the ground twice, she finally answered Sun Rui's question with satisfaction.
"You country bumpkin, it's all a lie to say this game is dangerous. It was developed by several countries, and they wouldn't dare release it without testing it. My dad's police subordinate told me the game is safe. For some reason, the government requires fewer people to join this game right after it opens, preferably none at all, which is why there are rumors. Otherwise, I wouldn't have secretly come out to buy this stuff."
After explaining, Huang Yi looked at him with disdain, as if to say, "You're so old-fashioned, you've got a great deal and you don't even know it."
"But this isn't money."
Clearly, Sun Rui was unaffected by Huang Yi's disdainful look and insisted on cash.
Looking at Sun Rui's dark face, Huang Yi gritted her teeth and thought to herself, "Damn it, I don't know if he's just after money or if he's trying to embarrass me."
"You're not just after money, are you? This game can make you money." Huang Yi hesitated for a moment before continuing, "I heard that the virtual game currency can be exchanged for real money by the game's AI. There's no fraud involved. Are you satisfied now?"
"You must remember this..."
After hearing Huang Yi's words, another voice rang in Sun Rui's mind. Sun Rui seemed to smell the smell of engine oil and burning again, and the unforgettable scene appeared before his eyes once more.
"Hey!"
Huang Yi noticed that Sun Rui's eyes were wandering and realized that he wasn't paying attention to her at all. Feeling that she had wasted her breath, she patted Sun Rui on the shoulder.
"Can this really make money?"
"Of course, and it's not a small amount of money. If you're that greedy, this game is perfect for you."
Just as Sun Rui was about to ask Huang Yi for details, he suddenly felt a gust of wind coming from behind his head. Before he could react, a sharp pain stimulated his nerves, and a wave of dizziness struck him.
"Slap! Kid, don't move around, or don't blame me if your hand gets broken."
"Ah, Uncle Mo, what are you doing?"
Before Sun Rui's dizziness had subsided, he was pinned to the ground and completely subdued.
After they were subdued, two voices were heard, one was Huang Yi's, and the other was an unfamiliar voice.
"What are you doing? Is this kid robbing you? I saw it."
"What? I wasn't robbed! This guy just saved me, and I paid him for it. Seriously."
Sun Rui clearly felt the force behind him lessen considerably. He wasn't stupid; he overheard their conversation and realized they were acquaintances. Only after he felt the person behind him had completely left did he slowly stand up.
"I'm sorry, Uncle Mo misunderstood what happened just now."
Huang Yi apologized to Sun Rui with a face full of remorse, and even stuck out her tongue and acted cute.
Ignoring Huang Yi's attempts to act cute, Sun Rui's expression was quite unpleasant. Although he hadn't provided the aid for free, he still felt bad about being unfairly attacked.
"I'm sorry, young man."
The person standing behind Sun Rui walked up to him and apologized profusely.
Hearing Uncle Mo's apology, which seemed sincere, her expression softened, and she began to sized up Uncle Mo.
The man Huang Yi called Uncle Mo wasn't the tall, imposing figure Sun Rui had imagined. Uncle Mo was somewhat overweight and shorter than Sun Rui, probably around 1.65 meters tall. Just looking at Uncle Mo, Sun Rui couldn't believe that the swift attack he had just delivered came from this inconspicuous man who would have been thrown into the crowd.
"Uncle Mo, do you have any cash on you?"
"I brought it with me, what's wrong?"
Uncle Mo glanced at Huang Yi beside him, wondering why she had brought up money.
“Perfect timing. I didn’t have any money to pay this young cook, so I’ll give him 5000 RMB.”
Upon hearing their conversation, Sun Rui's displeasure vanished instantly, replaced by a silly grin.
Seeing the change in Sun Rui's expression, Huang Yi handed him the 5000 RMB in cash in her hand with a hint of annoyance.
"Here you go, you're so greedy for money. This is your payment, I don't owe you anything."
"Here's your virtual bracelet back."
After receiving the money from Huang Yi, his smile widened. He put the 5000 yuan into his pocket and then used sign language to indicate that he was returning the virtual bracelet to Huang Yi.
"No need, it's yours. Forgot what I just said? You're so greedy for money, go make some money. Consider it compensation for what happened earlier."
Huang Yi waved her hand, refusing the virtual bracelet that Sun Rui offered.
"Let's go, Uncle Mo. If we don't go home soon, Dad and the others will probably come to get me."
Goodbye to being greedy for money, make some real money!
Sun Rui watched Huang Yi and Uncle Mo walk away slowly without saying anything. Huang Yi and Sun Rui did not share the same name and did not know each other's names, treating it as a chance encounter.
“Click.”
Sun Rui turned the key and opened the door to the apartment he had lived in for four years. It was an old-fashioned security door, also opened with a key. Security doors that still use keys are rare these days; they're only found in this old-style neighborhood where Sun Rui lives.
The house is a two-bedroom, one-living room apartment with outdated furniture. It's an 80-square-meter apartment that Sun Rui's relatives bought with his parents' death compensation. Although the apartment isn't very new, Sun Rui is very satisfied.
Today is Monday, and Sun Rui is going to do a thorough cleaning because his younger sister won't be coming home today and will be staying at school.
Sun Rui is very proud of her younger sister, Sun Rui. Sun Rui dropped out of school at age 10 and doesn't have much formal education, but her sister is an excellent student. From elementary school to university, her grades have never fallen out of the top three in her grade. She's currently in her final year of junior high school, and the high school entrance exam is coming up soon—a crucial time. These days, schools require junior high students to board. Sun Rui initially encouraged her sister to board, but her sister wouldn't listen to her advice, and it didn't work out. She doesn't know how her sister managed to talk to the teacher, but the teacher actually agreed to let her commute. Later, seeing that her sister didn't fall further behind her classmates because of boarding, Sun Rui stopped advocating for boarding.
Today is Monday. The school has a mock high school entrance exam during evening self-study, which will go on very late, so Sun Rui will be home alone tonight. Later, Sun Rui realized that he hadn't done a thorough cleaning in a long time, so he decided to give it a good cleaning while he was home alone.
Sun Rui was busy until after 7 o'clock. He glanced at his watch. Just as he was about to clean his sister's room, his hand on the doorknob, he froze. He remembered how his sister hated him going into her room. How many years had it been? Two? Three?
Sun Rui realized he couldn't remember, and gave a silly grin. He left his sister's door and started preparing his own dinner. He also checked to see if the breakfast he had prepared for his sister was still there. He found that the sandwich and the note were gone, and he knew that his sister hadn't overslept and had eaten breakfast before leaving.
After we finished eating, the house was tidied up.
I connected to my virtual terminal using my home network to check out the content of "Global Hope". Although I had seen the advertisements for this game, I hadn't paid much attention to it.
