Chapter 8 The Thief in the Convenience Store

After finishing her speech, Sakayanagi Arisu did not mention her identity, but simply bowed and stepped down from the stage.

The opening ceremony concluded with her bow.

After the opening ceremony, Shibata, as previously arranged, went to the swimming pool alone to investigate.

The other students in Class B dispersed, planning to explore different areas of the school to check out the items for sale.

Ito Sawa first went to the school's convenience store, where he found that the goods were completely different from those in ordinary convenience stores, and were filled with smart items that required energy stones to operate.

His gaze swept across the shelves, taking in high-tech products such as water heaters with embedded energy stones and energy-concentrating arrays powered by energy stones.

In addition, there were some small, exquisitely crafted items; he wondered how they were made so delicately. Curious, he picked them up and asked the waiter about them.

The waiter explained to him that these were all made of rhombus steel, a material that is associated with energy stones. Due to its unique properties, it can be used to construct very delicate and complex small parts.

Ito Sawa understood and then put down the object in his hand.

Then, he took a fancy to an energy stone music box, which had an exquisite appearance and emitted a faint glow.

He asked the waiter if he could try playing it.

The waiter agreed, so he pressed the play button, and the music box began playing a soft melody.

Just then, the pink chess piece in his mental sea suddenly trembled and resonated.

He quickly understood the principle behind the music box. It seemed to be built around a power similar to that of Hoshinomiya-sensei. Moreover, playing the music box made the pink chess piece in his mind even brighter, as if the power of the same origin made him understand that power better.

So he decided to buy the music box. Just as he was about to ask the salesperson about the price, he realized that the music box had suddenly disappeared from his hand. He was stunned for a moment, then realized that someone had stolen it.

He quickly turned around, scanning the convenience store to try and find the person who had taken the music box.

Ito Sawa scanned the area and quickly spotted the purple-haired girl who had taken the music box.

This wasn't because he had a keen eye, but because she was politely stopped by a waiter nearby.

Seeing her indignant expression, Ito Sawa quickly recognized her as Kamuro Masumi, the girl in the original story who was controlled by Sakayanagi Arisu due to her kleptomania and was eventually expelled from school.

The waiter stopped Masumi Kamuro. His voice was gentle and polite, but his tone carried an undeniable firmness: "Young man, you seem very interested in our music box. If you intend to take it, we need you to purchase it first."

Kamuro Masumi pursed her lips helplessly. She knew that the waiter had already seen through her plan to steal, but he didn't intend to expose her. He just wanted to take the opportunity to increase his own sales.

She was about to resign herself to her bad luck and prepare to take out the energy stone to buy the music box, but Ito Sawa suddenly spoke up and stopped her.

When Ito Sawa saw the waiter stopping Kamuro Masumi, he stepped forward and intervened in the dispute, posing as someone who wanted to buy a music box.

He calmly said to the waiter, "Hello, I'm Ito Sawa from Class B. I'm very interested in this music box and was planning to buy it. It seems this student took it by accident, so let me pay for it."

The waiter glanced at Ito Sawa, then at Kamuro Masumi, clearly weighing how to handle the situation.

Ito Sawa continued, "You see, if this matter escalates, it won't be good for the store's reputation. Since I'm willing to buy this music box, why not just treat it as a misunderstanding? You can sell one more item, so why not?"

After listening to Ito Sawa's words, the waiter felt that this solution was beneficial to both parties, as it could avoid disputes and increase revenue.

So he nodded in agreement: "Since you are willing to buy it, we will not pursue the matter further. Please go to the cashier to pay."

Ito Sawa smiled and said to the waiter, "Thank you very much for your understanding." Then he turned to Kamuro Masumi and said softly, "Are you alright? I'll buy this music box; you don't need to worry about it."

Kamuro Masumi had already resigned herself to her bad luck, but unexpectedly, Ito Sawa stepped in to help her out of the predicament.

But instead of expressing her gratitude, she tried to leave on her own, only to be stopped by Ito Sawa.

Kamuro Masumi looked at Ito Sawa warily, adopting a fighting stance as if ready to retaliate at any moment: "While I appreciate you helping me out of this predicament, don't even think about making any unreasonable demands."

Ito Sawa was speechless for a moment, then smiled helplessly: "What are you thinking? I just want to get to know you."

What he was really thinking was to first get in touch with Kamuro Masumi, so that he could use her when she became Sakayanagi's subordinate in the future.

Even though the school's capabilities have improved, and Kamuro Masumi can't even steal anything, let alone be used as a blackmail by Sakayanagi, what if the plot somehow causes them to run into each other again?

Even if I fail, all I'll get is a girl's contact information; I won't lose anything.

Masumi Kamuro smiled dismissively: "Are pickup lines this outdated now? If there's nothing else, I'll be going now."

Just as Kamuro Masumi turned to leave, Ito Sawa's voice made her stop in her tracks.

He calmly said, "Since you enjoy stealing so much, I have a way to let you indulge in your thieving addiction without getting caught."

Kamuro Masumi immediately turned around and argued, "I don't like stealing, I just like the thrill." But there was a clear hint of hesitation and insecurity in her words.

Ito Sawa wasn't going to listen to her excuses. He bluntly exposed her: "If the theft isn't for money or valuables, but for the thrill, then that's precisely the manifestation of kleptomania. Otherwise, if you're simply seeking thrills, why not choose extreme sports or something similar?"

Kamuro Masumi was speechless, glaring fiercely at Ito Sawa, and said, "Tell me your plan now, or I'll make you regret it."

Seeing her annoyed expression, Ito Sawa smiled slightly and quickly offered his solution: "You can steal from your classmates. Because the school won't get involved in conflicts between students, otherwise the principal wouldn't have brought up our fight this morning."

When Kamuro Masumi heard this idea, her eyes lit up. She felt that this method really made sense.

Just as she was about to make her move on Ito Sawa to test the feasibility of his suggestion, Ito Sawa saw through her intentions.

So he chose a target for her: "Freshman representative Sakayanagi Arisu. Her identity is special; wouldn't it be more challenging to steal something from her?"

Masumi Kamuro stopped her hand, which was already pressed against the music box, her eyes sparkling with excitement.

She felt that Ito Sawa understood her perfectly.

Sakayanagi Arisu, the girl who was specially escorted here this morning, had already been recognized.

She is the daughter of the chairman of the board and the granddaughter of the founder of Takayu.

That would be so exciting if I could successfully steal something from her.

She left the convenience store eagerly, leaving only one sentence: "If I succeed, I will thank you."
