Chapter 53: Finding faults

Si Ziyu was speechless for a long time after being hit by Helian Huai's bluntness, and could only force a smile.

Helian Huai thought he was interested, and immediately put on a cynical smile. Without saying a word, he pulled Si Ziyu towards the front yard. "If Your Highness likes them, I'll find you a few too. Just think, Your Highness, the fragrance of a scholar's desk is such a beautiful sight. You can bring them back to the palace and keep them in the study to serve you. If your studies improve, wouldn't His Majesty and the Empress be overjoyed?"

Si Ziyu was being held by the shoulder by Helian Huai without any boundaries. For some reason, Helian Huai's grip was so strong that he was choking Si Ziyu so much that he could hardly breathe and his face turned red.

Helian Huai was still loudly urging him, "What kind of prince does the Third Prince like? Don't be shy, just tell me and I'll send you one or two. You can take them back to show the Empress, and she'll definitely be satisfied."

"..."

Si Ziyu raised his hand to pull Helian Huai away, but Helian Huai deliberately resisted him for a long time. Only when Si Ziyu's face turned green did Helian Huai lower his hand with a grin.

"No need," Si Ziyu said, unsure of Helian Huai's thoughts. "Young Master Huai can enjoy it himself."

Helian Huai scoffed, "Third Prince, you're so boring."

Si Ziyu guessed that Helian Huai was indeed a real playboy, which put her mind at ease.

But Helian Huai still kept pestering him about the thirty-nine study maids. Si Ziyu had grown up in the palace since he was a child. The palace had strict rules, and his mother was even more strict. How could he dare to bring disreputable women back to the palace? If his mother found out, he would probably be confined to his quarters.

Outside the palace, there was no lawlessness, and once back in the palace, no one dared to gossip. But inside the palace, it was a different story.

Helian Huai turned to talk to his "maid" for a long time, only to see the "maid" roll her eyes at him and then walk away quickly.

Helian Huai called out from behind, "You rest first, I'll come find you when I'm done."

Si Ziyu was looking at him when Helian Huai suddenly turned his head and said, "You just have to spoil them, there's no other way."

"Young Master Huai is in high spirits." Si Ziyu smiled, and the two followed him into the front hall. Baili You was already seated, and he asked Xiao Zhuo to make tea for everyone.

Si Ziyu didn't want to sit down, but he could only wait it out. He had to keep an eye on that little bastard Baili You, so he had no choice but to sit down with a frown.

Helian Huai spun around in place a few times, his brows furrowing deeper and deeper.

Baili You asked him anxiously, "What's wrong?"

Helian Huai raised his voice, "What kind of lousy place is this?"

“This is the Crown Prince’s residence,” Baili You lowered his voice, embarrassed to look at Helian Huai. “I usually live a simple life, so I don’t dress up much. Please have a seat.”

Helian Huai stood in the middle of the front hall, his eyes full of disdain, "Where are you going to sit? Look at this broken chair of yours..."

As he spoke, he pulled out the chair, which creaked as soon as he moved it. "The paint on the armrests is chipped. What if they scratch my sleeves?"

Baili You was speechless.

Si Ziyu's throat was in his throat. He hadn't expected Helian Huai to nitpick the furnishings in the mansion, and he was speechless for a moment.

Helian Huai wasn't finished yet. He commented on the entire hall, saying that this place was unsuitable for sitting or that place was unusable. He walked to the wooden screen at the back, pointed, and said, "These are all designs from decades ago. How can they be displayed in the dignified Prince's residence? Does the prestigious Jin Chu not even want to support a mere idle person like you, the Prince?"

His expression suddenly changed. He looked at Si Ziyu, who was racking his brains to come up with a solution, and said coldly, "Third Prince, is this the kind of treatment I, the Thirteenth Prince of Pingjing, received in your Jin Chu?"

Si Ziyu's mind raced, but she hadn't expected Helian Huai to change his attitude so quickly. She immediately stood up and said, "Young Master Huai is joking. We naturally treat the young master as an honored guest. It's just that the young master is used to being frugal and doesn't like us renovating his residence."

“What kind of nonsense is this?” Helian Huai turned around and asked Baili You, “Young Master, you should at least replace some of the items with something usable. Simplicity is good, but you can’t lose face. If this is used to entertain guests in the mansion, wouldn’t it make you a laughing stock?”

Baili You remained silent, pursing his lips and stammering as if he wanted to say something. Si Ziyu glared at him fiercely.

"Don't be angry, I'll have someone else replace you later."

Si Ziyu was quite sensible and sat back down with satisfaction. What could Helian Huai do if he kept finding fault? Baili You had taken all the blame upon himself. Helian Huai couldn't possibly refuse to give Baili You any face at all, could he?

Helian Huai sighed, picked a chair that was barely usable, picked up the tea next to him and took a sip. He opened his eyes and "poof" spat it all over the floor.

The tea stains spread across the floor, startling everyone present.

"What's wrong now?" Baili You stood up anxiously. "Is there something wrong with this tea?"

Helian Huai stared at the tea in his hand and said angrily, "Is this something a human being should drink?"

Baili You started pretending to be mute again.

"Your Highness, Third Prince!"

Helian Huai put down his teacup and walked straight to Si Ziyu. “Everyone knows that the tea industry in Jin-Chu is thriving. We use the finest Maojian tea to entertain guests and only drink new tea every year. Your Highness, why don’t you explain to me why the tea in the Prince’s residence is so unpalatable!”

Si Ziyu's heart, which had just settled, jumped again. He was truly speechless. His face turned pale as he said, "Your Highness is frugal and drinks the old tea slowly."

"Frugal?" Helian Huai laughed angrily. "How come I didn't know that His Highness had become so frugal after coming to Jin and Chu? Frugality is fine, but I, Helian Huai, can't stand coarse food. Someone, bring me this year's new tea!"

The hall was silent for a moment.

Uncle Liu and Xiao Zhuo stood at the doorway, their eyes practically peering into the tips of their shoes.

Helian Huai called out again, "Guards!"

Uncle Liu and Xiao Zhuo pretended not to hear.

Helian Huai was shocked and, in a fit of anger, smashed Si Ziyu's teacup. The bitter tea foam splashed all over Si Ziyu. Si Ziyu stood up abruptly and glared at Helian Huai.

Helian Huai glanced around, "Such a large prince's residence, and you don't even have a single servant?! Where are they? Send someone to me!"

These words were shouted directly at Si Ziyu. Si Ziyu took a few steps back. He couldn't very well say that he had beaten all of Baili You's servants to death, so he explained awkwardly, "The young master's servants were afflicted with a plague a few years ago and none of them could be saved. Why is Young Master Huai so angry?"

"Dead?" Helian Huai was shocked again, and said in disbelief, "Before the young master left Pingjing, he took more than twenty servants and slaves with him. It's only been a few years, and they're all dead?"

Si Ziyu almost couldn't keep up the act anymore; how could Helian Huai be acting like a madman?

He had barely finished muttering to himself when Helian Huai said, "Jin Chu is really too kind to my young master. Several servants have died, yet they are unwilling to send a few more cleaners for him. I think this is clearly mistreatment of my young master, both openly and secretly. Now that I'm here, I must demand an explanation for my young master!"

Si Ziyu felt a chill run down her spine.

"Third Prince, I can no longer stay in this Prince's residence. Although my Helian clan is not as noble as yours, we are not to be trifled with. I have seen what you have done today. I urge you to go back and think carefully about how to convey my message back to Pingjing!"

"What are you saying, Young Master Huai?" Si Ziyu pretended to be stupid, "The young master's mansion has few servants. Isn't it because the young master is used to using his own people and doesn't like outsiders to serve him? I, Jin Chu, always go along with the young master's wishes. How is that being mistreated by Young Master Huai?"

Si Ziyu looked heartbroken and turned to leave after saying that.

Helian Huai raised an eyebrow and spoke first, "I, Helian Huai, cannot endure this suffering! Guards!"

This time, the head guard he brought in came in very quickly, cupping his hands and saying, "Young Master."

Helian Huai waved his hand, "Help the young master well, let's go to the inn. This young master's residence can be left for the Third Prince to enjoy at his leisure."

Si Ziyu's temple throbbed. "..."
