Iya Continent: Card God

Chapter 25 Mine Defense

Several years ago, in the mountains far beyond the territory of Shankan City, the people of Shankan City learned of the existence of mineral veins through the songs composed by a wandering bard.

At first, there were doubts. But after geological surveyors went to investigate, the existence of the mineral vein was finally confirmed.

This mine is rich in common-grade black iron ore, which isn't particularly rare. However, the deposits are substantial, and if used to forge weapons, it would undoubtedly generate a considerable income. Especially for a small family power, this would be a treasure trove for the entire family for decades to come.

According to the laws of the Kingdom of Modly, this mine should belong to the Duke of Sandel County. If the Duke does not participate, the Marquis of the area will have jurisdiction. The Marquis of Sandel County, however, disdained the time-consuming and laborious mining of this iron ore vein. Therefore, a private auction was held, with both earl families and wealthy merchant families eligible to bid. Ultimately, the mining rights were won by the Herland family.

The Leer family had anticipated that the mine would lead to a battle with the Maggie family.

Now, in addition to the miners initially hired, there are also family members who were dispatched in advance to the mine.

Amidst the pitch-black mountains, only this place is brightly lit, with twinkling stars.

The miners had all gone to a designated rest area. Their daily work consisted of mining during the day and sleeping at night, with a few days each month to leave and enjoy themselves in the city. This cycle repeated itself year after year. If anyone wanted to quit, the Herlan family would recruit a new miner to take their place. The wages offered by the Herlan family were so high that even commoners were eager to participate. Therefore, it was extremely rare for anyone to resign.

The people sent by the family have already set up patrols as required.

The staff works in shifts every hour to ensure the safe operation of the mine.

A family servant on patrol was walking above the gate at the mine entrance when he suddenly saw two figures running towards him in the light.

This immediately alerted them, and they pointed their weapons in the direction.

"Who?!"

"Open...the door!" shouted the disheveled head of the Leer family.

"My lord, and... Knight Gobu!" The patrolling servant was truly startled by the sight of the two men.

"Clang! Buzz—!"

The wooden gate of the fence was pulled open, and Leer and Gob were quickly ushered inside.

In an instant, family members who had arrived earlier approached and inquired about the extent of the injuries.

The head of the Leer family was panting heavily, and said nothing.

Knight Gobu inquired, "How are the defenses?"

"all the best!"

"That's good."

"Master! People are coming! Enemies are here!" At this moment, a servant standing on the upper level shouted the announcement.

Suddenly, bells rang throughout the mine, their soft sounds alerting everyone to an enemy attack.

The Wolf King led his band of wolves to the scene, his fierce eyes fixed on the wooden gate blocking the way, and he gave a disdainful smile.

"Heh, you think you can stop us with this?"

The scarred wolf deputy leader volunteered, "Brother, I'll lead the brothers to break through this!"

The wolf king glanced behind him and said in a low voice, "Hey, why should we do this? Let that young master go first."

Garo paused for a moment, then chuckled smugly and said, "Big Brother is the wise one."

Attacking first will inevitably draw the strongest defenses and fiercest resistance from the enemy. Such an offensive would likely result in countless casualties among our own bandits. It would be better to let the employer's men go first, followed by our own men launching a strong attack to break through the defenses. This way, we'll appear to have put in a great deal of effort without incurring significant losses.

Before long, young Master Jim Magee arrived with his family's men.

Looking at the raised wooden door, he asked, "What's going on?"

The Wolf King, his smile concealing a dagger, said, "Young Master Jim, Naleur and the others have all escaped inside. Now they are putting up a fierce resistance, and we don't know what to do. We need your command, our employer."

Jim felt very pleased to hear such flattering words from the leader of the Wild Wolf Bandits.

He was instantly filled with confidence and said with great courage, "This is just a wooden door! Hear my command, break through this door! Capture and kill the Herlan family!"

Upon receiving the order, the family's servants had no choice but to rush forward and take action.

The bandits of the Wild Wolf Gang did not obey Young Master Jim's orders; they only participated in the attack after receiving instructions from Fang Wolf and the Wild Wolf King.

"Drink!!!"

Faced with the fierce offensive, the Herlan family, who were guarding the area, refused to back down.

The knight Gob quickly got into position, standing on top and directing the battle.

"Bang!" "Clang!"

The two sides were evenly matched in offense and defense, and it was impossible to determine a winner in a short period of time.

Dorn Magee arrived at the scene amidst the noise, and seeing the fierce attack, he didn't immediately notice that many of the dead and injured were his own people.

“Patriarch Dorn, the other side is indeed difficult to deal with.” The Wolf King stepped forward and said, trying to shift the focus.

Dorn said solemnly, "Of course, otherwise I would not have fought with them for so many years."

"However, this is also the last battle."

"They seem tenacious, but they're actually at their wits' end. Once their defenses are breached, it'll be our slaughter. Nareel now, heh heh..."

Dorn Magee, recalling the devastating blow he had inflicted on his longtime rival, Lerpillar, with his magical potion "Lightning Bomb," couldn't help but feel smug. Forget about such underhanded tactics; in the continent of Iya, the victor reigns supreme. If you win, everything is right.

Only fools would try to win a one-on-one match.

"Jim!" Dorn suddenly shouted.

“Father!” Jim Maggie, who was anxiously directing the operation, rushed over.

Dorn Magee pulled several thumb-sized glass bottles from his sleeve, filled with various colorful, flowing magical liquids.

The Wolf King grinned, "Patriarch Dorn, how generous!"

Dorn handed these to Jim: "These are high-quality magic potions. Take them to help break down the door."

A high-quality magic potion is equivalent to a silver-level skill attack.

"Yes!" Jim was excited when he saw the potions.

The wolf king shrugged, and a finely crafted claw weapon appeared in his hand.

"I should also get some exercise."

Knight Gobu looked down at the situation with a tense and solemn expression.

I was taken aback when I suddenly saw Jim rushing forward.

"Break the door for me!"

Jim Maggie roared and unleashed bottle after bottle of magic potions.

The magical potion unleashed a burst of silver magic, pounding against every part of the wooden door. The Herlan family subordinates guarding the defenses were helpless.

"Boom! Bang!"

The explosion was like fireworks, sending plumes of smoke billowing and swirling around.

"Brothers! Charge with me!"

The wolf king roared and charged fiercely into the smoke.

The claw-like weapon rose, its cold light flashing, and with a "whoosh!" a huge claw mark tore through the wooden gate.

"Boom!"

The wooden door collapsed, and the enemy swarmed in.

Knight Gobu gritted his teeth and glared angrily, then immediately rushed to the battlefield at the gate to join the resistance.

The head of the Leer Herlan family stood calmly inside the gate, his composure as firm as a mountain.

"I can't panic, or everything will be over."

The head of the Lehr family smiled and looked at Dorn Magee, who was walking out of the dust.
