Chapter 229 How will you know if it will work if you don't try?
Emerging from the shadows was a man in black robes, his face hidden beneath a hood, revealing only a pair of cold, indifferent eyes. His voice was low and hoarse: "A dog from Kassel College, daring to set foot here?"
Without a word, the rune gun flashed, unleashing a beam of energy straight at the black-robed man. However, the man instantly transformed into a cloud of black mist, dodging the attack.
"Welcome to our territory," the voice of the man in black robes came from all directions. "This will be your burial ground."
Tian snorted coldly, raised the rune gun again, his gaze sharp as a knife: "Is that so? Then let's try!"
As the man in black robes chuckled, shadows began to shift deep within the forest, as if the entire forest was awakening, and a dangerous duel was about to begin.
Tian's eyes remained calm as always, his rune spear swirling gently, locking onto the surging shadows around him. The figure of the black-robed man appeared and disappeared, each appearance seemingly testing Tian's patience.
"Half-breeds of Kassel College, you always show no fear of the unknown." The black-robed man's voice was deep and mocking. "This Black Forest no longer belongs to your world. Leave here, or your flesh and blood will become part of the Camarilla's rituals."
Without replying, Tian raised his hand and fired a precise beam of light. The blue beam pierced through a withered tree in the shadows, sparks flying everywhere. A piercing scream echoed through the air, as if something had been injured by the beam.
“The Secret Service has indeed done a lot of work here.” Tian’s voice was cold, but a hint of excitement flashed in his eyes. “In that case, I can’t leave now.”
The man in black robes seemed to be enraged. The shadows in the air suddenly condensed, transforming into a ferocious beast that pounced into the sky. The monster resembled a wolf, but was much larger than any ordinary beast. Its body was covered in black scales that looked like rocks, and its blood-red eyes burned with malice.
Tian steadied himself, his rune gun precisely aimed at the direction from which the wolf shadow was pouncing. His finger pulled the trigger, and several beams of light shot out in succession, each aimed directly at the wolf shadow's joints. The blue light collided with the black shadow, generating a violent energy surge that shook the surrounding trees.
The wolf shadow let out a low growl, its sharp claws scraping the ground, leaving a deep gash. It did not retreat in the face of the beam of light; instead, it became even more ferocious, pouncing forward.
"Troublesome." Tian cursed under his breath, quickly rolling to dodge while switching his rune gun to melee mode. The runic light on the gun suddenly changed, and a blue energy blade extended from the muzzle.
The wolf pounced again, its claws slashing towards Tian's shoulder. He precisely dodged to the side, his rune spear transforming into a lightning-fast arc, piercing towards the wolf's chest. The moment the energy blade pierced the scales, a dazzling light erupted, and the wolf howled in pain, its entire body sent flying backward.
The voice of the man in black robes came from afar, tinged with anger: "It seems the academy's hounds are quite capable. However, do you think you alone can unravel the secrets of this place?"
Tian glanced around and said in a low voice, "How will we know if it will work if we don't try?"
He swiftly approached the stone tablet, his steps clean and precise, each step carefully avoiding any potential traps. The runes on the tablet gradually brightened as he drew near, their light radiating a chilling power, as if warning him to stop.
The man in black robes fell silent. Instead, more shadows surged in from all directions, transforming into various monsters, some like tigers, others like giant pythons, all radiating an aura of despair as they pounced towards the sky.
Tian calmly analyzed the monsters' movements, his rune gun firing precisely time and again, stopping them all. However, the number of monsters didn't decrease; instead, it surged even more fiercely. Tian's breathing became increasingly rapid; his movements remained swift, but cold sweat beaded on his forehead.
"Damn it, dragging this out isn't going to work." He gritted his teeth and muttered, quickly glancing at the stone tablet before taking a rune bullet from his waist and loading it into the gun.
"If this is your trump card, then I'll break it directly!" Tian suddenly leaped up, the energy blade of his rune gun aimed directly at the core rune of the stone tablet. He pulled the trigger, and the rune shot out, striking the center of the stone tablet with a dazzling blue light.
"boom--!"
The stone tablet was completely destroyed, and the light of the runes suddenly went out. The entire Black Forest fell into a brief silence, followed by a violent tremor, as if the earth itself was groaning.
"What have you done?!" The black-robed man's voice was filled with anger and a hint of fear. "You... you disrupted the connection! Do you know what you've done?"
Tian didn't answer. He quickly retreated, his eyes scanning his surroundings warily. He vaguely sensed that with the destruction of the stone tablet, some kind of constraint on this forest had been lifted. A more powerful force was awakening, and that aura sent a chill down his spine.
The man in black robes stood at a distance, his hood pulled back to reveal a pale, distorted face. He stretched out a hand, pointing to the sky, his voice filled with malice: "You will pay for this, hound!"
The Heavenly General raised his rune spear and said coldly, "That depends on whether you can keep me here."
He turned and fled swiftly, while behind him, in the dark forest, shadows transformed into endless vortexes, shrouding the entire area in profound darkness. A greater crisis was quietly approaching.
Tian swiftly traversed the dark forest, the ground beneath his feet trembling and unstable, yet his steps remained precise, each calculated step executed flawlessly. The rune gun trembled slightly in his hand, the last rune bullets in the magazine a reminder: he must escape this perilous situation as soon as possible.
The shadows behind them surged like a tide, and the monsters formed of black mist roared as they pursued them. Their eyes burned with a scarlet light, and every step they took caused the earth to tremble dully.
"What exactly did the Camarilla seal away here?" Tian muttered through gritted teeth, his gaze sweeping across the area ahead, searching for a possible way out. His mind raced, analyzing the situation: the Black Forest's confinement had been broken; those monsters were merely a facade, and the true threat might not yet be fully revealed.
A thick tree root suddenly burst from the ground, attempting to trip him up. He quickly rolled away to avoid it, simultaneously raising his hand and firing a beam of blue energy that shattered the root. But his movements didn't slow down; he continued sprinting forward.
"Trying to run?" The black-robed man's voice came from the shadows again, filled with endless coldness. "Hound, you have nowhere to run."
Tian sneered, the rune gun twirling in his hand. A flash of light appeared as a blue energy shield blocked the claws attacking from behind. He leaped to the side, precisely dodging another monster's pounce, then turned and fired, turning it into a cloud of black mist.
"You bunch of trash think you can stop me?" Tian's tone was icy, but his steps did not falter in the slightest.
Just when he thought he was about to shake off his pursuers, a deafening roar suddenly came from the dense forest ahead. A huge figure slowly emerged from the darkness; it was a colossal beast formed entirely of black mist, shaped like a tiger, with its eyes burning with scarlet flames and its sharp claws gleaming coldly in the air.
Tian stopped in his tracks, his eyes calmly scrutinizing the monster before him. His fingers tapped lightly on the rune gun, his gaze sweeping rapidly across the surroundings, searching for a possible opening.
“It seems you are the master of this place,” he said in a low voice, without a trace of fear in his tone.
The behemoth roared, and the surrounding black mist surged. Its body exuded an indescribable sense of oppression, as if even the air itself had become heavy. Then, it leaped suddenly, soaring into the sky with the force to tear through the air.
Tian's body moved instantly. He stomped his foot, sliding to the side, while simultaneously firing a beam of energy from his rune gun, which struck the behemoth's shoulder precisely. However, the beam did not cause any substantial damage, only leaving a shallow crack on its body.
"Such strong defense?" Tian frowned and quickly adjusted the rune gun's mode, switching the muzzle to high-energy compression mode.
The behemoth gave him little time to react. It roared and pounced again, its sharp claws aimed straight for Tian's chest. Tian rolled backward to avoid it, his energy blade flashing out and slicing across the behemoth's lower abdomen, leaving a blue streak of light.
The giant beast roared in pain. Its tail swept across the ground, whipping up tree roots and rocks, which it then hurled into the air.
"Troublesome." Tian cursed under his breath, his figure flashing like lightning as he narrowly avoided the fatal blow. But the giant beast's offensive did not stop, and its continuous attacks left him with almost no chance to retaliate.
As the giant beast charged again, Tian's gaze suddenly sharpened. He noticed a faint crimson light shimmering on the beast's chest, the shape of which was remarkably similar to the runes on the stone tablet.
