Chapter 228 The Busy Journey Apart
The faint warmth emanating from his chest made him aware of Xia Mi's presence. It was an indescribable peace and strength, as if an invisible hand was supporting his soul.
"Where to next?" Xia Mi's voice echoed in his mind, tinged with a familiar teasing tone. "You can't just keep wandering aimlessly like this, can you?"
Chu Zihang stopped and looked up into the distance. A thoughtful look flashed in his eyes as he said in a low voice, "The Secret Society won't give up easily. They'll always look for another opportunity after one failure. The academy needs to prepare; I must go back."
Xia Mi was silent for a moment, then said calmly, "You know that the power to revive me is incomplete. In this state, you may be corrupted by the power of the dragon race at any time, and your bloodline is not stable enough."
“I know.” Chu Zihang gripped the Dragon Cutter tightly, his gaze growing increasingly resolute. “But this is the price I must pay. The academy is our support. Lu Mingfei, Caesar, Tian… they are all working hard. I can’t hold them back.”
Xia Mi's laughter echoed in his mind, tinged with a hint of helplessness: "Still the same as before, no emotional fluctuations at all. However, Chu Zihang, I hope you can remember that you don't always have to bear everything alone."
Chu Zihang nodded slightly, saying nothing more. He adjusted his breathing and began to walk towards Kassel College.
Meanwhile, at Kassel College, Lu Mingfei was training with other students on the combat training field. He was panting heavily, his short sword worn thin, but he gritted his teeth and persevered. His opponent was a senior student who wielded his rune sword with exceptional ferocity, making it almost impossible for Lu Mingfei to breathe.
"Lu Mingfei, you're no good!" his opponent sneered. "You dare to come to the training ground with such weakness?"
Lu Mingfei wiped the sweat from his forehead, a hint of stubbornness in his eyes: "Even if I'm weak, I can't beat your sharp tongue."
After saying that, he suddenly rushed forward, his short knife drawing a dangerous arc. Although he missed his opponent, he successfully disrupted his rhythm. His movements appeared clumsy, but they conveyed a determination to fight with all his might.
Tian, who was watching from the sidelines, shook his head and commented in a cold tone: "This guy's movements are not smooth enough, but he has improved compared to before."
Caesar leaned against the wall, arms crossed, and said lazily, "You really care about him. But I do think his desperate drive is just like someone else's."
"Chu Zihang," Tian said without hesitation, his tone tinged with complexity.
Caesar smiled and said, "Yes, Mingfei may not have Chu Zihang's talent, but he has the same stubbornness. This kind of person won't give up easily."
Tian's gaze fell on Lu Mingfei, and he said in a low voice, "I hope he can hold on until that day."
Far from the academy, within Caesar's family estate, the atmosphere was entirely different. Inside the opulent hall, the resplendent gold decorations reflected the power and authority of the Gattuso family. Caesar stood beside the conference table, his gaze calmly sweeping over the family elders seated around it.
“Nidhogg has been destroyed, and the Camarilla’s plan has failed once,” Caesar said, his tone laced with provocation. “But I can assure you, they will come back. The family must accelerate its research into runic weapons; they are our bargaining chip for the future.”
An elder frowned, his tone questioning: "Caesar, your task is to represent the family in gathering intelligence at the academy, not to arbitrarily decide on resource allocation."
Caesar sneered, casually planting his rune sword into the ground. His voice was sharp as a blade: "You may doubt my judgment, but I have witnessed the power of the Camarilla firsthand. Continuing to be complacent will only lead to the family's elimination in future battles."
A brief silence fell over the hall, then another elder slowly nodded: "Caesar, the information you brought is indeed important. We will evaluate your proposal, but the allocation of family resources requires more justification."
Caesar stopped arguing; he simply smiled, turned, and left the conference room. A cold glint flashed in his eyes as he muttered to himself, "Reasons? I'll show you with results."
The four individuals are busy in different places, each bearing responsibilities for the academy, their companions, and themselves. Meanwhile, shadows are quietly gathering in the distance, for an even greater storm is about to break.
The storm in the land of dragons' slumber has subsided, but the convergence of destinies is drawing ever closer.
Chu Zihang traversed the wasteland alone, the blue-green light emanating from his chest flickering intermittently. Xia Mi's presence brought him comfort, yet also added a heavy burden of responsibility. The sky gradually darkened, and the outline of the academy could be faintly seen on the distant horizon. His steps were unwavering, but his mind was preoccupied with many other questions.
"Chu Zihang." Xia Mi's voice rang in his mind, gentle yet clear, "The Camarilla won't give up so easily. This time it was Nidhogg, next time it might be something even more difficult to deal with. Are you sure you can handle all of this alone?"
Chu Zihang was silent for a moment, then said in a low voice, "I am not alone. Lu Mingfei, Caesar, Tian... and you, they will all be my strength."
“You’re always like this,” Xia Mi chuckled. “You shoulder the responsibility but refuse to acknowledge your limits. However, sometimes, relying on others is not a sign of weakness.”
"I will remember," Chu Zihang replied briefly, but his tone remained firm.
Meanwhile, inside the Kassel College.
Lu Mingfei sat panting at the edge of the training ground, the short knife in his hand already chipped and nicked. He stared blankly at the sky, his mind a jumbled mess. He thought of the battle at Nidhogg, of Chu Zihang, Caesar and Tian, and of the mysterious and powerful Xia Mi.
"Mingfei, are you slacking off?" Tian's cold voice came from behind him.
Lu Mingfei jolted awake and quickly stood up: "How could that be! I was just thinking about battle strategy!"
"Is that so?" Tian's gaze held a hint of doubt. "Your movements are still too clumsy. Relying solely on desperate measures is not enough. Next time you encounter the dragons, do you want to rely on luck to survive again?"
Lu Mingfei gritted his teeth and said in a low voice, "I will become stronger. One day, I will be like Chu Zihang."
Tian raised an eyebrow but said nothing more. He turned and left, leaving Lu Mingfei standing there, gripping his short knife tightly. His gaze gradually hardened, and a long-dormant fighting spirit seemed to ignite within him.
Caesar's family estate.
The atmosphere remained tense inside the Gattuso family meeting room. Caesar stood by the window, his gaze coldly sweeping over the garden outside. His fingers tapped lightly on the table, as if he were planning something.
The door behind him was pushed open, and a young family member walked in, saying in a low voice, "Young Master Caesar, the rune research department has launched the new project you proposed. But the elders are still somewhat dissatisfied, as they think you are too radical."
“Radical?” Caesar scoffed, turning around. “If we’re not radical, what will the Gattuso family have left when the Camarilla strikes again? Honor or life?”
The family member lowered his head and remained silent, not daring to say anything more.
Caesar waved his hand, his tone softening slightly: "Tell them I will let the results speak for themselves. The Gattuso family is not one to sit idly by."
The young member nodded and hurried away. Caesar leaned back in his chair, closed his eyes, but his thoughts drifted back to the battle with Nidhogg. A cold smile crept onto his lips: "Chu Zihang, you really are a nuisance. But with you around, things are more interesting."
The Black Forest Secret Realm.
Tian walked alone through the dense forest, rune gun in hand, his nerves taut. His steps were light and swift, his eyes scanning his surroundings warily. A musty smell filled the air, the gnarled roots of the trees seemed to silently block the intruder's path.
“The Secret Service has been active here many times,” Tian muttered to himself, his fingers lightly tapping the butt of his gun. “But what exactly are they looking for?”
He stopped before an empty stone platform, his gaze fixed on an ancient stone tablet in the center. The tablet was inscribed with complex runes, each emitting a faint glow. Tian stepped forward, reached out and touched it, instantly feeling a chill run down his arm and throughout his body.
"These are... dragon runes?" He frowned, more questions arising in his mind.
Just then, he heard light footsteps coming from the dense forest behind him. He quickly turned around, aiming his rune gun in the direction of the sound: "Who's there?"
