Chapter 206 Intuition! Mystery
"What trouble?" Xia Mi walked forward, tilted her head, and asked in a somewhat nonchalant tone.
“Those ‘troubles’ are probably alive.” Caesar shrugged, his tone casually enigmatic. “But you never know, it might just be my gut feeling. After all, places like this are never very comfortable.”
Following his finger, everyone looked ahead and saw the valley shrouded in thick fog, making it almost impossible to see anything. The fog moved slowly as if it were alive, as if concealing some unknown danger.
"Everyone be careful and stay alert," Chu Zihang said in a low voice, then took the lead and walked forward.
They cautiously traversed the valley, eerily quiet except for the sound of their footsteps echoing on the damp earth. Lu Mingfei's heart pounded faster with the silence, a feeling that some kind of gaze was watching them.
"Isn't it a little too quiet?" Tian said in a low voice, his tone revealing a hint of unease.
Caesar stopped, glanced around, and then gave a knowing smile. "Hmm, something's definitely not right. Everyone be careful; this silence usually means—"
Before the words were finished, a deep roar suddenly came from the thick fog, as if it came from all directions at the same time, making the air tremble.
"Prepare for battle!" Chu Zihang swiftly drew his Dragon Cutter, his sharp gaze fixed on the depths of the mist. Caesar and Tian also assumed a defensive stance, while Xia Mi stood beside Lu Mingfei, her expression no longer nonchalant but rather composed.
"What is this?" Lu Mingfei asked nervously, his voice trembling slightly.
"Judging from their voices, they might be some unfriendly fellows," Caesar said with a smile, but a hint of coldness lingered in his eyes.
From the thick fog, a huge black shadow gradually emerged—a massive monster with six claws, its eyes gleaming crimson. It let out a low growl, its sharp claws scraping across the ground, leaving deep gashes.
"Lu Mingfei, protect yourself," Chu Zihang whispered, then rushed forward without hesitation, his blade flashing as he slashed at the monster's forepaws.
Caesar and Tian quickly joined the battle, while Xia Mi stood still, seemingly not intending to intervene directly. Lu Mingfei gritted his teeth, drew his dagger, and nervously surveyed his surroundings, preparing to deal with any further attacks that might occur.
"Lu, don't get too close," Xia Mi said softly, her voice still gentle but carrying a reassuring strength. Lu Mingfei nodded and stepped back behind her.
However, unbeknownst to him, Xia Mi's gaze remained fixed on the battlefield amidst the thick fog. Her fingers lightly brushed against her sleeve, as if confirming something. After a moment, she murmured softly, "What a nuisance..." Her voice was so soft that only she could hear it.
The battle intensified, the roars of monsters and the clash of blades echoing through the valley. Lu Mingfei gripped his short sword tightly, his heart pounding, yet a strange thought flashed through his mind—he felt that something was quietly happening without his knowledge.
The monster's roar suddenly intensified, its front paws slamming heavily into the ground, kicking up a cloud of dirt and rubble, heading straight for Caesar and Chu Zihang. Caesar nimbly dodged to the side, firing his twin pistols in rapid succession. Each bullet accurately struck the monster's joints, but it was as if it had hit steel, only producing a string of sparks.
"Chu Zihang, your little toy doesn't seem sharp enough," Caesar teased as he fired, his eyes fixed on the monster's movements.
Chu Zihang did not answer. His gaze was calm as still water, and the Dragon Cutter sword in his hand gleamed with a cold light. He moved like a whirlwind, circling around to the monster's flank and thrusting the sword straight into the monster's shoulder joint. The monster roared in pain, its massive body shuddering violently, forcing Chu Zihang back several steps. But black blood was already flowing from the wound.
"Keep attacking its joints, its movements will be restricted!" Chu Zihang said in a deep voice, quickly readjusting his posture and charging forward again.
At the same time, Tian leaped onto a boulder from the other side. His rune gun was fully charged, and blue light converged from the muzzle into a dazzling ray, which blasted straight at the monster's back. After the beam struck, the monster's body suddenly froze, and a moment later it let out an even angrier roar, its tail sweeping wildly, almost knocking Tian off the rock.
Standing at the back, Lu Mingfei watched the battle unfold, his heart pounding in his chest. He wanted to help, but found his legs completely immobile; he could only grip his short sword tightly, his palms drenched in cold sweat. He knew he couldn't be as calm as Chu Zihang, nor as composed as Caesar, let alone possess Tian's precise combat skills.
"Lu Mingfei, stay where you are and don't run around." Xia Mi's voice came from behind, her tone gentle but firm.
Lu Mingfei turned to look at her and saw that she still had that relaxed smile on her face, but that smile gave him a strange sense of security. He nodded and whispered, "Okay."
The monster seemed utterly enraged, its six claws slamming into the ground, creating a violent tremor. Caesar and Chu Zihang both retreated, increasing their distance from the monster. Its body began to swell, a faint red glow emanating from its chest, as if it were gathering power.
"Oh no, this thing is about to unleash its ultimate attack!" Tian jumped down from the rock, his voice filled with obvious tension.
"Stop it!" Chu Zihang said coldly, gripping the Dragon Slayer Sword tightly with both hands, and charged forward again.
"Tsk, what a nuisance." Caesar muttered under his breath, firing his dual pistols again, bullets raining down on the monster's head and chest.
However, the monster's movements did not stop at all; its chest cavity grew brighter and brighter, the red light almost blinding. Just then, Xia Mi suddenly stood up, raised her hand, and made a slight gesture.
“Don’t confront it head-on,” she said softly, but her voice carried clearly to everyone’s ears. “Let it be.”
"Are you kidding me?!" Tian shouted in surprise as he turned around.
“Listen to her.” Caesar surprisingly agreed and immediately stopped firing. He turned to Chu Zihang and said, “Retreat, don’t engage her directly.”
Chu Zihang frowned and glanced at Xia Mi, but ultimately retreated to a distance. The group quickly dispersed, increasing their distance from the monster.
The next second, the red light suddenly erupted, and the scorching energy shot into the sky like a volcanic eruption, tearing the ground around the monster apart. The thick fog was instantly evaporated, revealing the rugged valley landscape around it.
After the burst of energy, the monster's body visibly shrank, and the red light in its chest completely disappeared. Its movements became sluggish, and its body swayed precariously, as if it had exhausted all its strength.
"Now!" Chu Zihang shouted, charging forward first. His Dragon Slayer Sword flashed in an arc, precisely slashing at the monster's neck. Caesar and Tian followed closely behind, the three working in perfect harmony, defeating the monster completely in just a few seconds.
The battle finally ended with the monster's corpse crashing to the ground. Everyone breathed a sigh of relief, sheathed their weapons, and stood aside to catch their breath.
"Xia Mi, how did you know it would self-destruct?" Caesar walked to her side, raised his eyebrows, and asked with a hint of curiosity in his voice.
Xia Mi smiled and spread her hands: "It's intuition. I've seen similar monsters and I know their limits."
Caesar stared at her face for a few seconds, as if to confirm whether she was lying. Xia Mi, however, met his gaze calmly, without flinching.
“Intuition…” Caesar raised an eyebrow, but ultimately did not ask any further questions.
Chu Zihang didn't speak, but simply put away the Dragon Cutter and walked straight to the monster's corpse to examine its appearance and wounds. Tian Ze squatted on the ground, rubbing his aching knees and muttering something under his breath.
Lu Mingfei stood at a distance, watching everything unfold before him, his mind filled with doubt. He felt that Xia Mi's demeanor was too calm, as if... as if she had already anticipated all of this. But he quickly shook his head, trying to shake off these thoughts.
"Lu, what are you standing there for? Come and help me move these things." Xia Mi turned around, smiled, and waved at him.
"Oh, coming!" Lu Mingfei quickly replied, running over to make himself look like a useful teammate.
At that moment, Xia Mi looked down at her palm, her gaze suddenly becoming deep, before she regained her usual smile, as if nothing had happened.
After everyone finished dealing with the monster's corpse, silence returned, broken only by the sound of the breeze rustling through the valley. Lu Mingfei squatted on the ground, wiping the blood from his short knife, his movements mechanical and stiff. His hands were still trembling slightly from the battle, and his heart was filled with mixed emotions.
