The Road to Godhood in Honor of Kings

Chapter 38 Campus Championship (1)

The next day, Monday, was also the start of the Pingshan No. 1 Middle School Campus Championship.

"Mmm-hmm." The homeroom teacher cleared his throat. "The campus tournament, which will last for two days, is starting today, probably three... So everyone get ready. We'll enter in order of class, and then the opponents will be drawn on the spot. As for the specific rules, someone will explain them later..."

Apart from Han Cheng and a few others who were somewhat excited, the other students who were eliminated were not so excited, but they also wished that their class could win.

The match time was fast approaching.

All participating classes entered the venue in order, while the competing teams arrived at the designated area. The competition venue was a large conference hall with dedicated projection equipment, accommodating four teams for the competition. All Grade 11 students could also watch from below. Grade 10 students did not participate, and Grade 12 students did not have time to participate.

(Hmm, that's very formal. I wish our school had events like that.)

Each class entered in order, and then drew lots to determine who would fight whom. There were two hosts and commentators: a beautiful woman and a sleazy-looking man with glasses (well, okay, maybe he wasn't that sleazy, but out of jealousy, many men thought he was sleazy).

"Dear teachers and students, hello everyone!" the two hosts said at the same time. "Now we announce that the long-awaited King of Glory Tournament is about to begin..." In short, a bunch of nonsense opening remarks.

Then, the rules were explained. After a draw, participants were divided into two groups, A and B, to compete against each other. The top teams from each group would then play against each other to determine the champion, who would receive a prize and represent the school in the city tournament. The tournament, while supposedly two days, was actually much shorter; it was just an estimate, as there were only about ten classes, and it was over in less than a day. Anyone could participate in the city tournament, but apparently, the school champion would also receive a prize, funded by the official King of Glory (王者荣耀) team. Otherwise, given the school's track record, they wouldn't give you the opportunity to play the game and then pay for it. Furthermore, participating in the city tournament also granted one "immunity" chance, meaning it would take two eliminations to get you eliminated. Pretty attractive, right?

The draw didn't take long, and it was over quickly. Han Cheng and his group drew Class 8 and were assigned to Group A. Class 8, well, no one had ever been known to be good at King of Glory. Maybe they were just hiding their true abilities. Han Cheng and his group started the match with the belief that they would win.

Han Cheng and his group took their seats at the competition area. There were five seats in total, and Xu Xiaomeng suggested that everyone sit according to their assigned seats.

Sun Hou sat on the far left, Xu Xiaomeng sat right next to him, Han Cheng sat in the middle, followed by Fatty, and Ye Bing sat on the far right.

Looking at the five people opposite, they were all men, and three of them were wearing glasses, probably because they had become nearsighted from playing too many games (so everyone should pay attention to this, unless your glasses are unusual and you don't become nearsighted no matter how much you play, like the author). The other two were a short man and a man of medium build.

Since it's a more formal competition, it will naturally be a draft mode.

"What's forbidden?" Sun Wukong asked from the first floor.

"Ban Luna or Guan Yu!" Han Cheng said. It's generally best to ban these two heroes if you don't know the opponent's preferred heroes.

"What? Play Luna or Guan Yu?" Sun Wukong looked bewildered upon hearing the English.

"Just ban heroes!" Xu Xiaomeng said helplessly.

"Oh, then let's ban Luna then. I got completely crushed by her in solo queue yesterday!" Sun Wukong said, and then banned Luna with a "bang".

Seeing that Sun Wukong banned Luna, the opposing team also tacitly banned Guan Yu.

"Sun Wukong, rob a young lady for me!" the fat man said.

Sun Wukong was about to steal Sun Shangxiang, but Han Cheng stopped him. Generally speaking, you should first grab the jungler or other positions, preferably some strong ones that are not easy to be targeted. Save the support and ADC for last. Heroes that are easy to be targeted but are also very strong should be chosen last, which can produce good results.

"Then what about Han Xin?" Sun Wukong asked.

"Hmm! Then let's go with Han Xin!" Han Cheng said. Han Xin's early-game jungling efficiency is unmatched, truly deserving the title of king of tempo. He has a strong ability to gank, and when he runs, almost no one can catch him.

So, Sun Wukong picked Han Xin, while the opposing team picked Zhao Yun and Xiahou Dun, both of whom are quite popular heroes. Zhao Yun, in particular, is extremely popular, as he and Han Xin are both must-pick junglers in matches.

"Let's pick Sun Bin as our second pick!" Han Cheng suggested. Ye Bing nodded in agreement. Sun Bin, as the hero with the highest win rate, is a godsend for climbing the ranks. He has powerful control and support capabilities, but he relies heavily on his teammates.

The opposing team picked Diao Chan as their third pick.

Then Han Cheng's team picked Genghis Khan and Angela, while the opposing team picked Sun Shangxiang and Miyamoto Musashi.

It was Miracle Team's turn to make their final move. Han Cheng thought for a moment and decided to pick Zhang Fei as their last pick, since the opponent couldn't counter him, and the enlarged Zhang Fei was exceptionally strong.

The final lineup for Miracle Team is as follows: top laner Zhang Fei with Interference, mid laner Angela with Flash, jungler Han Xin with Smite, ADC Genghis Khan with Swiftness, and support Sun Bin with Heal.

The lineup for Class 8 consists of Xiahou Dun in the top lane with Execute, Diao Chan in the mid lane with Purify, Zhao Yun and Miyamoto in the jungle with Smite, and Sun Shangxiang in the bottom lane with Heal.

Class 8's lineup features two junglers, a popular strategy currently. Two junglers clear camps quickly, are less susceptible to counter-jungling, and have excellent ganking capabilities, effectively limiting the enemy's development. However, Miracle Team, as usual, only has one jungler. While two junglers are advantageous, for heroes like Han Xin who heavily rely on gold and experience, two junglers can hinder his development. If your counter-jungling ability is weak, it's best not to use two junglers in a lineup with Han Xin, as Han Xin is only truly effective when he has an economic lead.

Although Han Cheng possesses supernatural abilities, greatly enhancing his counter-jungling capabilities, a dual-jungler setup means the absence of a support role. Having a support would allow for better team fight stability, especially since Miracle Team, aside from Zhang Fei, consists mostly of squishy heroes, unlike Class 8 which has two warriors: Zhao Yun and Xiahou Dun. Hmph, though that's not exactly a convincing excuse.

"Welcome to Honor of Kings!" The slightly chuunibyou-esque tomboyish voice rang out again, and the game began.

"Zhang Fei and Angela, go push the top and mid lanes, the rest of you come with me to take the blue buff!" Han Cheng said. After countless matches of practice, Han Cheng has now become the team's commander.

The game started with the same strategy of grouping up to clear and counter-jungle. Miracle Team first took the blue buff, then went straight to their own red buff to wait, because Han Cheng had already seen the enemy Miyamoto and Zhao Yun coming over eagerly.
