Lin Xuedong pushed open the door, and the bright light inside made his heart tighten.

After changing his shoes in the entryway, he stepped into the house, walked around the hall, and saw that familiar figure tinkering with something in the kitchen.

"Sisi?" Lin Xuedong approached the kitchen and called out, his voice a little hoarse.

Liu Sisi was cooking noodles with her eyes downcast; she couldn't sleep. She was exhausted from crying, furious, and now hungry. So she got up to make something to eat, the water boiling. The steam made her face flushed, which conveniently concealed her swollen eyes.

She glanced at him briefly and asked casually, "You're back? Hungry?"

From the moment he walked in, she forced herself to remain calm. She spent the entire night agonizing over it, furiously wanting to confront him the moment she saw him.

But when he returned, she was overwhelmed with mixed feelings. If things fell apart, nothing could be salvaged.

She repeatedly asked herself, now that she had come this far, could she truly let him go?

But when she heard him call her name, that damned soft spot that had made her crumbling heart resurfaced.

She really couldn't let go. Despite not being able to accept his betrayal, she still couldn't help but soften her heart.

"Hmm, I am a little hungry. Honey, sit down and wait, let me cook." Lin Xuedong smiled, walked to her side, and prepared to take over her cooking.

As he approached, Liu Sisi smelled a mixture of smoke and alcohol on him, along with the refreshing scent of shower gel.

A sudden chill ran through her; he had showered outside before coming back! She subconsciously glanced at him, her watery eyes shrinking in surprise.

He even changed his clothes?!

He rarely wears black shirts! Tonight, he and Lin Lan... was it prepared for him by Lin Lan?

"No need, this is fine. Please sit down." She gripped the long chopsticks used for mixing noodles tightly, her heart sinking to the bottom. She forced back her anger and casually dismissed him, not wanting to be tainted by his foul breath.

A short while later, Liu Sisi came out carrying two bowls of beef and chicken noodles with vegetables, which smelled delicious, were piping hot, and looked very appealing.

The two sat facing each other at the dining table, quietly eating their noodles in perfect harmony.

Perhaps he was genuinely hungry, because Lin Xuedong found the noodles particularly appetizing and comforting. So much so that he didn't notice Liu Sisi wasn't sitting next to him, but rather opposite him.

After finishing her noodles, Liu Sisi packed her things, feigning a yawn. Lin Xuedong's silence stirred up her inner turmoil, and her eyes began to redden and moisten again.

"When I said goodbye to Mr. Li today, he said he was going to Hengzhou to visit Ren Anran at work in a couple of days. Since I'm laid off and have nothing to do, I'll go with him and have some fun, relax a bit. Okay?" She didn't want to put on such a hard act in front of him.

Lin Xuedong paused for a moment; he had been busy these past few days as well. He was taking Liu Sisi on their honeymoon next week, and his work was quite demanding.

In addition, he also had to go to G City to handle matters with Jebsen.

He looked up at Liu Sisi, a deep apology in his eyes, and said apologetically, "I'm sorry, honey. I have to go on a business trip to G City in a couple of days and I can't find the time. I'm worried about leaving you alone. How about I go with you next time I have time?"

"Go ahead and do your work, I'm free anyway. I'm going with President Li this time, and Ren Anran is showing me around, so it'll be fine." Liu Sisi tried her best to persuade her, her expression unchanged.

Lin Xuedong leaned forward and gently embraced her slender waist, his voice softening and tinged with a coaxing tone. "Alright then, remember to be careful and don't get lost."

"I'm not a child, how could I get lost?" She didn't want to be near him, pushed him away, and covered her nose with disgust. "You should worry about yourself. You're always smoking and drinking, it's suffocating. Go wash up and go to bed, it's almost dawn."

Lin Xuedong paused slightly, then pretended to sniff his collar and gave her a wicked smile. "Is it overpowering? I think it's fine. It's a man's scent, it won't overpower you, it'll just seduce you~".

The next second, he swiftly grabbed Liu Sisi, his large hand hooking the back of her head. Ignoring her struggles, he forcefully kissed her pink lips.

When he tasted its sweetness, he was extremely excited, and he felt his heart pounding.

His breathing became increasingly shallow, but he still refused to let go of her until he used up his last breath.

"Well……."

Liu Sisi struggled fiercely, trying to shake him off. But her strength was too weak, and his kisses were relentless.

She began to feel weak from lack of oxygen, her face flushed red. She pounded her fists on the man's chest, but he still held on tightly.

Her anger slowly turned into bitterness. Why did he, having just left another woman, suddenly shower her with such heart-wrenching affection? She didn't understand!

Two streams of tears flowed down her cheeks, hot and burning, making the man's heart ache. He released her to let her catch her breath, and gently sucked away her tears with his thin lips.

"I'm sorry." Without giving any explanation, he expressed his deepest apology in a hoarse, trembling voice.

"Are you alright?" She looked at him with red eyes, again without any preconditions.

How I wish he could tell me that he was alright. Alright, both physically and mentally, because he had promised her.

Lin Xuedong's consciousness wavered, and a hint of grievance lingered in his soft murmur. "It's not good at all."

He said he was not good at all.

Liu Sisi's heart was stung by these words. In front of him, she learned to be patient, even though it was difficult.

Despite being the closest of lovers, she increasingly understood how precious true honesty was. And what about them? It seemed easier said than done; neither dared to lift the veil covering their ugliness.

"Is there anything I can do to help you?" Their eyes met, she sniffed, her nose stinging, and tears welled up in her eyes again.

Lin Xuedong suddenly felt a tightness in his throat, as if his heart had been stabbed by a sharp knife, a sharp pain shooting through him. A trace of heartache flashed across his dark pupils.

His hand, hooked around the back of her head, stroked her soft hair. He smiled bitterly and pleaded humbly, "Stay by my side."

"I never left." She was always there, and even though she had to compromise, her heart never changed.

"I know." He pursed his lips, responding with utmost care, his eyes filled with a complex and profound sense of guilt.

Liu Sisi stared at him, feeling a chill creeping into her heart from time to time. She had found the answer in his eyes.

It was filled with his guilt, helplessness, pain, fear, and pleading.

She slowly closed her eyes, concealing her tears. What else was there to say? They exchanged veiled words, unspoken yet understood each other perfectly.

She found herself unable to find any words to describe her feelings at that moment... Sadness, grief, but even more so, a deep sense of reluctance that tore at her heart.

Her subconscious told her to calm down and escape the suffocating emotions. She took a deep breath, opened her eyes, and saw his handsome face darkened with embarrassment; her heart clenched painfully.

When Lin Xuedong met her cool and gentle eyes again, his heart suddenly tightened, and a bitter feeling welled up inside him.

"Sisi." He uttered a hoarse murmur from his tight throat, a barely perceptible bitter smile tugging at the corner of his mouth.

Liu Sisi's lips twitched slightly; she suddenly didn't want to say anything more to him. She gave a desolate smile and said softly, "Go wash up and go to sleep. You're tired too."

For the rest of the night, they both gave each other space. Sleeping in the same large bed, they sat side by side, not disturbing each other, and surprisingly slept soundly.

It's not that I don't feel pain, it's not that I'm not panicked, it's not that I'

Rather, it's simply that as long as she's by his side, and he's by her side, they both feel inexplicably at ease, even without conversation or physical contact.

Because their scents lingered in the air, it seemed to offer them a bittersweet comfort.
