This Life's Song: The Genius Rune Master

Chapter 16 Immortal's Cave

The wooden door creaked open as Leng Yaoye pushed it.

What came into Lianxue's view was a beautiful mountain scene, even taller and more beautiful than Yunlian Mountain where she was. The mountain was covered with exotic flowers and plants, butterflies, dragonflies, and bees, which flitted back and forth, and unknown small animals ran around, making cheerful noises.

Unconsciously, I stepped inside. In the distance, I could see a clear waterfall cascading down, with fish leaping and playing.

As I strolled uphill, admiring the surrounding scenery, someone suddenly walked past me.

"Excuse me, where is this place?" I politely stepped forward and bowed, and the person walked past me.

"Excuse me, where is this place?" Still no response. What's going on?

A cheerful young girl walked down the mountain. She was very pretty and wore a long pink dress with lotus flowers embroidered on the hem, which was very elegant.

"Excuse me, miss, is this place...?" He walked up to the woman, watching her walk past him.

"Hey! What's going on?" He looked at his own hands and then at the other woman, who seemed completely unaware of his presence.

Suddenly remembering Leng Yaoye, he thought, "Huh? Where is everyone? Why am I all alone?" With a head full of questions but no answers, he could only follow the woman forward to see what was going on.

At the top of the mountain stands a magnificent building with golden dragons carved on the pillars, so lifelike they seem to be alive.

"Senior Sister, you're back. The Sect Leader is waiting for you in the main hall," a gatekeeper greeted the woman with a bow.

"I understand, Junior Brother Zhang, you've worked hard. It's your shift today," the woman nodded and asked politely.

"Yes, senior sister, it's my turn today," the man replied, scratching his head sheepishly.

"Then you'd better work hard. If you pass the next exam, you won't need to come here anymore," the woman said with a smile, patting the boy on the shoulder.

"Thank you for your kind words, Senior Sister," the young man said, gesturing for the others to proceed.

The woman continued walking forward, and came into view a very spacious training ground. To the right was a training area large enough for a thousand people, with various weapons neatly arranged. To the left was a forest, from which the faint howls of wild animals could be heard, suggesting it was a place for breeding or training.

All the disciples who saw the woman greeted her loudly, and the woman nodded in return.

At the end of the road, a palace stands in the middle, but in the middle of the palace there is a wooden passageway with railings on both sides carved with various weapons.

The woman did not stop, but continued forward, bypassing the palaces. After passing through about three or four palaces, she arrived at the top of the mountain. There, a training ground that could only accommodate a little over a hundred people appeared. It was more exquisite than the one below, and there was a arena in the middle. The arena was carved with Xuanwu (a mythical tortoise), and a feeling of excitement arose spontaneously.

Lian Xue thought to herself, "It seems this place is divided into inner and outer gates; otherwise, why is the outer gate so large while the inner gate is so exquisite and small?"

At the end of the road, there was another temple, and about five meters in front of the temple, a huge incense burner was emitting smoke.

The woman stepped forward, picked up an incense stick, lit it, inserted it into the burner, clasped her hands together in prayer, and entered the main hall.

"What business does the sect leader have with me?" The woman bowed first, then raised her head and asked.

"Qinglian, come here. I don't have anything important to say, I just wanted to find you a spouse." He then beckoned to the woman.

The sect leader was a middle-aged woman with an ordinary appearance but a pair of large eyes that scrutinized people and exuded an air of authority without anger.

"How could I trouble the sect leader with Qinglian's marriage?" She did not step forward, her fists clenched, her face full of worry, the joy she had before going up the mountain gone.

"What are you saying, child? As a disciple of the sect, how can I ignore her?" She gave Qinglian a reproachful look, her tone forceful and brooking no argument.

"Let me introduce you. This is Su Mu, the closed-door disciple of the Kuoyue Sect Master." Standing beside her was a man with delicate features, a tall and slender figure, and outstanding appearance.

If I had to give an evaluation, this boy and Qinglian would be a perfect match.

"Greetings, Senior Brother Su Mu," he stepped forward and bowed as a greeting.

"Junior sister, there's no need to be so polite," he said, reaching out his hands to help Qinglian up.

Qinglian frowned slightly and subtly dodged away.

"Mu'er! Qinglian is a good girl in every way, except she's a bit stubborn. You two will get to know each other better as you spend more time together," the sect leader hurriedly explained, noticing Qinglian's evasiveness.

"It's alright. Junior Sister is a person of strong character, and I quite like that personality of hers," Su Mu smiled and replied gently to the sect leader.

"Senior brother, you're new to our sect, why don't I show you around?" Qinglian said, her eyes darting around slightly.

"Then I'll have to trouble you, junior sister."

"Aunt Qin, then I won't bother you any longer," Su Mu said, bidding farewell to the sect leader.

"Alright, you can go ahead. Don't go too far, just come back to the main peak for dinner tonight," the sect leader said, glancing at the two of them before nodding in agreement.

"Then please, senior brother," Qinglian gestured for Su Mu to leave.

"Junior sister, there's no need to be so polite. Let's go together." Nodding, the two walked out together.

"I've heard your sect has a peach blossom grove; it's very beautiful this season. Would you be so kind as to take me there to admire it, junior sister?" she asked politely.

"Hmm~ Peach blossoms bloom every year around this time. Okay~ Senior brother, please." He then led the way.

After walking for half an hour, the two arrived at the peach blossom forest. Lianxue naturally followed behind them, but they couldn't see her.

Peach blossoms are in full bloom in the woods, their pink petals dancing in the wind, like a beautiful woman in a colorful dress dancing, a truly breathtaking sight.

Qinglian remained silent throughout the journey.

"Junior sister, is something on your mind? If you don't mind, could you tell me?" Seeing the girl's dejected look, as if she had something to say but was hesitant to speak, he couldn't help but wonder and asked.

"Well, I might have to disappoint you, but I already have someone I like," the woman said, sounding somewhat conflicted.

"I see. Please don't worry about it, Miss. It was my fault for not finding out clearly and causing you trouble," Su Mu said gently and softly.

"Why don't you accompany me and stroll around the Flower Peak Sect? I'll tell the sect leader later that we don't get along." He smiled gently, giving off a warm and welcoming feeling.

"Okay, consider it my apology. I'll show you around and introduce you to this place," Qinglian said with a smile.

"I don't know much about your sect, but I definitely know more about our sect than you do. Our main peak and the Beast Forest, let me tell you what's inside..." Once she relaxed, Qinglian seemed to become a chatterbox.

Su Mu simply smiled faintly to the side, nodding and asking questions from time to time.

That night, after explaining the situation to the sect leader, Su Mu took his leave. The sect leader said nothing, only shaking his head regretfully.

Lianxue didn't care about any of that. She happily returned to her residence and opened the door.

A hand reached out. "Junior sister, where have you been? I've been looking for you all day!" A lewd male voice came from behind.

Qinglian wasn't angry when she was pulled into someone's arms; she seemed to have gotten used to it.

"Our sect has a distinguished guest today, and the sect leader asked me to show him around the sect," Qinglian said gently.

"What am I going to do when I miss you so much? How should I punish you?" he said, pulling her towards the bed.

"Bai Lin, stop fooling around. This is a sect. It'll be troublesome if we're discovered," Qinglian said shyly, pushing the man away.

"What are you afraid of? I'll give you a proper status," the man said with a fanatical expression.

Qinglian saw this as a way to vent her emotions, and she didn't think the man's expression was excessive.

"That won't do. You must marry me before you..." she said resolutely, pushing the man away.

"It's not that I don't want to marry you. Look how good I am to you. I give you all the good things. It's just that your sect leader is hostile to our sect." The man's eyes darted around as he teased Qinglian with a grin.

"Then what can I do? You can't expect me to betray the sect, can you? That's impossible." Qinglian looked at Bai Lin with a resolute expression.

"How could I? At worst, I'll leave the sect, but I can't let my sweetheart leave!" He was a master of sweet talk; otherwise… hmph.

"Who knows if you're lying to me?" he said with a cold snort, turning his head away and deliberately ignoring her.

"How about this? You teach me the sect's defensive formation first, then I can come see you more often," the man coaxed.

"Oh, right, look, I brought you our sect leader's high-grade pills. These are top-quality pills that can break through shackles. And you still say I'm not good to you?" The man took out a smooth, white pill, pulled the woman's hand into her palm, and helped her hold it.
