This Life's Song: The Genius Rune Master

Chapter 15, Falling Together

"Say you won't implicate them, but if we really encounter them, we can't avoid a fight. Let nature take its course. As their senior sister, how can I just stand by and watch them die?" Lu Yaorao rolled her eyes at Leng Yaoye.

"Even though we might not be able to defeat you, we can't be afraid of trouble. After all, you're our junior brother." They belong to the same sect, so how could they really stand by and watch someone die? Lu Yaorao's face was full of determination.

“Yes! As long as you’re not afraid of us holding you back,” Lian Xue gestured with her eyes to herself and Qi Nianbei, the meaning of which was self-evident.

Qi Nianbei simply smiled and expressed his opinion, since he himself needed someone to take him out, so what opinion could he possibly have?

"Okay, thank you." All she could say was this. Qi Nianbei thought that if the enemy chased after her, she could just run away first. After all, they only wanted her, so they probably wouldn't do anything to them. Once she made up her mind, she didn't hesitate any longer.

The group continued walking forward, which was really just walking around the mountainside, trying to find the next exit to reach the lake.

This time, Lu Yaorao was still in the lead, Lian Xue was in second place, then Leng Yaoye, Qi Nianbei, and Xiao Yue brought up the rear.

Lianxue was holding a torch in her right hand when she suddenly felt her foot slip. She stumbled and grabbed the mountainside for support. Before she could see what had tripped her, she felt the mountainside become soft and her body tilted to the side. "Ah!"

"Lianxue" Leng Yaoye dropped his torch, reached out and grabbed her, following her inside.

Hearing the exclamation, Lu Yaorao turned around, but it was too late. The two had already disappeared from sight, as she hadn't noticed the situation in time because she was walking ahead.

"Girl!" Qi Nianbei cried out urgently, reaching out to grab a handful of air.

"Young Master," Xiaoyue paced anxiously, "What do we do? How did they disappear?" He turned to Qi Nianbei and asked.

"I... I was about ten feet away from your young master just now. By the time I saw him, it was too late to reach out," Qi Nianbei said with a look of self-reproach. He hadn't expected such a thing to happen.

"Let's see if there are any mechanisms," Lu Yaorao was also extremely anxious, but she knew she couldn't panic. The group began searching.

"Ah~" Lianxue exclaimed in surprise. There was no pain as she had imagined when she fell; instead, she felt a soft, limp sensation.

"Ugh~" Leng Yaoye felt like dying. He looked at her tilting and reached out to support her, but instead of being pulled in, he was pulled into her backside and became her butt cushion.

"Ah! How did you end up down there?" Lian Xue realized that she was sitting on Leng Yaoye and quickly jumped up.

"Are you alright? Where is this place? Where are my senior sisters?" Lianxue got up and looked around. This place seemed to be a cave.

"Who knows what kind of weird place this is? Why are you and me the only ones who came in? That's strange." Leng Yaoye also looked confused, got up, dusted himself off, and looked around.

"What's going on? We can't get out." Lianxue pushed behind her and looked around again, concluding that they couldn't get out.

"Let's go inside and take a look." Leng Yaoye glanced around and saw that the walls were inlaid with light stones, making it as clear as daytime.

"What about our senior sisters? They'll be worried if they can't find us," Lianxue said with concern. "Our senior sisters must be frantic about how to get out."

"We can't get out now either. Let's go see what's going on. If we find out the reason, maybe we can get out," she said, trying to comfort her as she looked dejected.

“It seems this place was specially built by someone. The luminous stones on the wall are arranged in an orderly manner, illuminating the space just right. It must be man-made,” Leng Yaoye said to Lian Xue, changing the subject.

"What are you doing? Let's go." Turning around, I saw Lianxue staring blankly at the Bright Stone.

"Ah! They're here." After a moment of confusion, she turned around and followed him forward.

An hour later, the two arrived at a tall wooden door with strange patterns slowly flowing across it.

Lianxue reached out to touch the door.

"Don't move," he said, reaching out to grab her little hand.

"This is a formation; who knows what will happen if it's triggered?" Looking at Lianxue, whose face had turned slightly pale with fright, he softened his voice.

"A formation, an attack formation?" After thinking about it, he felt a chill run down his spine. If he had come here alone, he really didn't know what would have happened.

“Step back a bit, let me study the formation. It might take a while; this formation is quite difficult,” Leng Yaoye said, glancing at Lian Xue.

"Okay, I understand. You can focus on solving it. I won't disturb you," Lianxue nodded, taking a few steps back.

Having received the promise, Leng Yaoye stopped paying attention to the array on the door and focused on the array patterns made up of lines, his brows furrowing.

"Let's find the core of the formation first before breaking it," Leng Yaoye comforted himself, as this formation was indeed quite difficult for him.

"Just say if you need my help," Lianxue couldn't help but say.

Um~

He replied with a simple syllable to indicate that he understood, and then focused intently on finding the core of the formation once again.

Finding the array's core by following the flowing lines isn't actually that simple; it consumes a lot of mental energy.

As the formation became increasingly complex, Leng Yaoye followed the flowing lines, feeling as if he were in a flowing river with countless branches crisscrossing around him.

As a thicker river slowly flows forward, it is occasionally affected by other river branches, and then it has to find the thicker river again. In this endless repetition, the first key point was found.

Here in the river, infuse spiritual energy to mark your own array, and then go to find the next array eye.

The search was not so easy again. Attacks would occasionally occur in the river, with various animals formed from spiritual energy rushing at them from all sides.

The initial attack caught Leng Yaoye off guard. It wasn't until he was hit twice in a row that he realized what was happening. The first time, he thought it was just his imagination, since formations can create illusions, and he easily fell for it. He thought the same thing the second time, but then he felt as if a small portion of his mental energy had been drained, and only then did he take it seriously.

Thinking to himself, "This formation is so miraculous!" Leng Yaoye's eyes shone with excitement. For him, if he could decipher this formation, he would be close to learning it. After deciphering it, he could repeatedly ponder and reconstruct the formation, which would be a great learning opportunity for him.

Lian Xue kept looking at Leng Yaoye. All she saw was him staring at the door in front of him, occasionally pointing at it with his finger or making a defensive gesture.

He couldn't help but think, "Is this breaking a formation? How strange."

Regardless of Lian Xue's thoughts, Leng Yaoye finally found the second array eye, a hundred meters from the previous river. (This distance was only within the array's illusionary realm.)

When they were searching for the third key point of the formation, a new scene appeared ahead.

He then saw his mother tied to a wooden frame by a man in black. "Damn it, let go of my mother!"

"Let go, haha, sure! As long as you come and exchange her," the man in black said, cracking his whip on the ground.

"Yaoye, please save my mother!" the woman pleaded desperately, her body covered in wounds.

"Fine, as long as you release my mother, I'll do anything you ask." With that, he walked up to the man in black and glanced at his bound mother.

She pointed a finger at the man in black's forehead, and the man in black vanished, along with the so-called mother. It turned out to be a series of illusions.

Watching the two disappear, even though they knew it was fake, they still felt lingering fear.

"Because my mother wouldn't let me save her, she'd rather kill herself." He murmured to himself, as if speaking to the man in black, or perhaps to put his own mind at ease.

Once the illusion array is broken, the third key to the array will naturally be found.

The key point of the formation was found smoothly without any further problems. After marking the locations, I exited the screen and looked at the door. It no longer felt so complicated, and I breathed a sigh of relief.

"How did you crack it?" Lianxue asked anxiously when she heard him speak.

"I'll rest for a bit to recover some mental energy before trying to break it. This array's core must be broken together before it can be opened," He Lianxue explained, closing her eyes to meditate.

Lianxue felt helpless. Although formations and talismans were interconnected, formations were far more profound than talismans. She wanted to help, but knew she couldn't do much, so she could only try to remain silent and not disturb him.

After resting for about an hour, Leng Yaoye finally opened his eyes, stood up, stretched out his hands, and pointed his fingers at various parts of the door.

Then there was a click, and the talisman disappeared.

Leng Yaoye slowly pushed the wooden door, which creaked and groaned...
